GET A FIRST LOOK AT THE CW’S RIVERDALE TV SERIES

Live-action series based on Archie Comics characters premieres January 26th at 9pm ET/8pm Central

You’ve waited patiently for this moment – and now it’s here.

We’ve got a sneak peek at ‘Riverdale’, the new one-hour live-action drama based on the classic Archie Comics characters premiering January 26th, 2017 at 9/8c on The CW. What more could you want?

‘Riverdale’ is written by Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and produced by Warner Brothers Studios and Berlanti Productions and has been described as a subversive take on the classic Archie mythos. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schecter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa serve as executive producers.

The live-action series offers a bold, compelling take on Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their friends, exploring small-town life and the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome facade. The show will focus on the eternal love triangle of Archie Andrews, girl-next-door Betty Cooper, and rich socialite Veronica Lodge, and will include the entire cast of characters from the comic books—including Archie’s rival, Reggie Mantle, and his best friend, Jughead Jones.

‘Riverdale’ stars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge.

The show’s premiere on January 26th will be followed one week later on February 1st, with a special tie-in one-shot comic book written by ‘Riverdale’ showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and members of the show’s writing staff with art by Alitha Martinez. The RIVERDALE ONE-SHOT promises to reveal new secrets and stories from the summer before the eternal love-triangle debuts on television screens.

An ongoing RIVERDALE comic book series will debut in comic book stores and digital platforms in March by Aguirre-Sacasa and Martinez that will run alongside the show, expanding on the events of the series and diving deeper into the characters and their relationships.

Sarah Habel as Ms. Grundy- Riverdale High's young music teacher who had a forbidden relationship with Archie.

Shannon Purser as Ethel Muggs-Ethel has a major crush on Jughead in the comics, but on Riverdale, Ethel will find herself in a romantic relationship with someone very different.

Okay, I'll accept a lesbian Ethel, which is where I suspect they're going with this, but the Grundy characterization may be a deal-breaker.

Here's a new trailer. I'm not sure if it tells enough to consider the deal broken:

Archie looks like the vampire in Twilight and the show sounds like they plan to use this to compete with MTV's Scream the tv series.

Extended trailer:

I've been watching for news and trailers with a very skeptical eye. I agree that Archie has taken the characters in new directions, but the alternative-worlds Life with Archie was more fascinating than entertaining for how dramatically skewed the characters became. I've read the first few Afterlife books, and I'm seeing even less connection to Archie characters.

Doing teenage hi-jinx is probably a tough sell today, more's the pity. If it is going to succeed, at least it's on the right network. I see there has been talk already of spin-offs for Sabrina and Josie and expanding the universe if it's successful. I almost want it to succeed so I can see The Flash visit.

It's definitely a strange concept. I fear that people wanting "Archie" will be turned off by the weirdness and angst, and the CW audience that wants Gossip Girls and Vampire Diaries will find the Archie layer to be dumb.

But--Berlanti has a great track record to date. And I will say, I liked the opening joke of Riverdale being a town with PEP! And Archie definitely looks like Archie, and the rest look enough like who they should be. That said, the Grundy plot makes me want to go take a shower on many levels. The casting and relationship is so wrong for Archie that it makes we worry.

Like a lot of you, I will watch the first couple episodes. I'd like to like it, but I doubt I'm gonna.

Ooh, DC crossovers! I hadn't thought of that!

Flash and Jughead could have an eating contest!

Supergirl could join the cheerleading squad!

Constantine could be arrested for hitting on underage girls!

"Reggie Mantle, you have FAILED this city!"

-- MSA

Is there a reason they wanted it obvious that Betty dyes her hair?

A fun look at the Riverdale trailer.

The more I see of this, the less I want to see this.

"Like a lot of you, I will watch the first couple episodes. I'd like to like it, but I doubt I'm gonna."

What he said.

I've had to hold my tongue while this has been in the hopper:
