DC ENTERTAINMENT KICKS OFF SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON BY UNVEILING ONE-OF-A-KIND JUSTICE LEAGUE CAR

Kia Motors America Teams Up with Industry Legend Jim Lee to Customize Vehicle On-Site in Front of Live Audience; All to Support ‘We Can Be Heroes’ Giving Campaign

eBay Hosts 10-Day Online Charity Auction to Benefit the Horn of Africa

SAN DIEGO (July 17, 2013) – DC Entertainment (DCE) opened San Diego Comic-Con today with a blend of artistry and giving, unveiling the  JUSTICE LEAGUE-inspired Kia Sorento, the eighth and final custom vehicle built in partnership with Kia Motors America.  The Sorento’s eye-catching design was penned by legendary comic book artist and DC Entertainment Co-Publisher Jim Lee, who completed the customization of the car before a live audience. Created to raise awareness of DC Entertainment’s “We Can Be Heroes” giving campaign, the collection of all eight JUSTICE LEAGUE-inspired Kia vehicles will be on display throughout Comic-Con at the Interactive Zone at Petco Park, Official Comic-Con Partner.

Following the unveiling, DCE President Diane Nelson announced that the newly revealed JUSTICE LEAGUE car would be the centerpiece of a special online charity auction on eBay which benefits the “We Can Be Heroes” campaign. Nelson announced that the 10-day charity auction was now live through July 27, 2013 at www.ebay.com/wecanbeheroes.

“Our goal in 2013 was to bring our fans and the JUSTICE LEAGUE Super Heroes together in unique ways to fight the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa. That effort started with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunities we’ve been able to offer through our crowdfunding campaigns that have raised over $285,000 to-date,” Nelson said. “Now, through these tremendous partnerships with Kia and eBay, the auction will take the offerings to a whole new level with a truly one-of-a-kind, and fully driveable, CUV customized by Jim Lee.”

The seven-seat Sorento marks the final chapter in a 10-month, eight-vehicle partnership between DC Entertainment and Kia based on the iconic characters that make up the JUSTICE LEAGUE – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg – each of which are featured on their own car designed by Lee. The final car captures the entire JUSTICE LEAGUE, as drawn by Jim Lee, with world-famous West Coast Customs recreating Lee’s artwork through hand-painted, custom air-brushing.

“This project has been challenging and rewarding for me as an artist and Kia has been a terrific partner,” Lee said. “It was a lot of fun to finish the last car in front of the live audience and I think anyone that visits the exhibit this week will really enjoy seeing all eight cars together.”

The online charity auction also includes spectacular artwork from some of today’s top contemporary artists and inspired by DC Comics’ JUSTICE LEAGUE characters.  The centerpiece of this collection is Justice, a large-scale piece of original artwork by Jim Lee that features the profile of Batman in a color palette inspired by the hues of Africa – yellow, green, red and black.

“Auctioning the Justice League-inspired Sorento is the perfect way to finish off what has been a very positive and successful partnership between Kia and DC Entertainment to benefit the ‘We Can Be Heroes’ campaign,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, Kia Motors America. “Like all of the Justice League-inspired vehicles before it, this customized Sorento blends the automotive and pop-culture worlds while also allowing Kia to extend our philanthropic efforts to support this very worthy cause.”

"At eBay we strive to connect our audience with unique items they are passionate about" said Gene Cook, GM of Emerging Verticals for eBay.  "We are thrilled to partner with DC Entertainment to bring this exciting Justice League event to our comic and super hero enthusiasts as well as leverage our Giving Works platform help the "We Can Be Heroes" initiative reach their fundraising goals."

To date, the We Can Be Heroes giving campaign has raised over $2.3 million and helped over 5 million men, women and children in the Horn of Africa.

SDCC Announcement - Neil Gaiman, Alice Cooper,
and Michael Zulli Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of
The Last Temptation with Fully Remastered Deluxe Edition from Dynamite

July 17, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite proudly announces that The Last Temptation, the groundbreaking graphic novel collaboration between bestselling author Neil Gaiman and rock music icon Alice Cooper with art by Michael Zulli, will return in a fully-remastered Deluxe Edition printing.  The new edition celebrates the 20th anniversary of the project, the first printing since its original Marvel run to be presented in color.  Dynamite makes this announcement to coincide with Neil Gaiman's appearance this week as a Special Guest at San Diego Comic-Con International 2013.

The Last Temptation graphic novel was originally released in three serialized installments in 1994 as a companion to the Alice Cooper album of the same name.  In the story, a boy named Steven (who was previously introduced as a character from Cooper's album, Welcome to My Nightmare) is tempted by an enigmatic showman -- based on Cooper -- to join his carnival.  Written by Neil Gaiman and illustrated by Michael Zulli, The Last Temptation was originally published by Marvel Comics, but has been out of print for over a decade.

"I'm really happy that The Last Temptation is coming out for a new generation of readers, who have not seen Michael Zulli's glorious drawings, or know of the Showman and his wicked ways," says Neil Gaiman.  "I wrote this a long time ago, driven by love of Ray Bradbury's dark carnivals and of Alice Cooper's own pandemonium shadow show.  It's time for it to shuffle out onto a leaf-covered street and meet the people who don't know about Stephen and Mercy and show what's coming to town."

"I sign a ton of the Last Temptation comics after my shows.  I was thumbing through one of them the other day and I realized that it's almost the 20th anniversary of them, but you wouldn't know it because the stories are still so relatable," comments Alice Cooper. "The conceits and themes are still relevant - the fear of growing up, the desire to stay young and shirk responsibility.  It only becomes more tempting as you age.  Like all good horror stories and nightmares, it's a morality tale.  It speaks to something bigger than our personal wants and needs, bigger than our cultural principles.  The new generation of readers will be thrilled by this sideshow as the first readers in 1994 were, and those reading it again for the first time in a decade or two will be surprised how real the nightmare and the temptation still is."

Neil Gaiman is one of the most critically acclaimed and recognizable authors in both comic book and mainstream literary markets.  A winner of the Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker, and Eisner Awards, plus the Newbery and Carnegie medals (among many other accolades), Gaiman has written such beloved works of fiction as The Sandman graphic novels, Stardust, American Gods, Coraline, and The Graveyard Book.  Gaiman is also recognized as a champion of literacy and has contributed extensively, in services, publicity, and funds, to dozens of charitable organizations.

Renowned as the Godfather of Shock Rock, Alice Cooper is an icon of rock 'n roll with a career spanning five decades.  A Detroit native, Cooper has released 26 albums over the course of his illustrious career, and maintains a reputation as one of the most theatrical live performers in history, often incorporating elaborate horror movie and vaudeville sensibilities into his stage shows.  In addition to his musical career, he is an avid golfer, film actor, restaurateur, and radio DJ.

"The Last Temptation is much more than a graphic novel.  It's an incredible story and a true work of art, a masterful collaboration between a metal maestro and literary architect with a fantastic artist," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "Restoring The Last Temptation to its full-color glory is the most fitting way to celebrate its twentieth anniversary.  Fans old and new of both Neil Gaiman and Alice Cooper will enjoy what we have in store for this very special deluxe edition."

SDCC Announcement - NBC'S Heroes Television Series Continues in New Dynamite Comic Book Series, Written by Cullen Bunn

July 16, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite proudly announces a licensing partnership with NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products that will bring back one of the biggest primetime successes of the past decade, the superhuman drama Heroes.  Working with Dynamite for the first time, popular writer Cullen Bunn (of Marvel's Fearless Defenders and Deadpool) will build upon open-ended storylines of the diverse Heroes cast in a completely unexpected way.

Heroes was a beloved weekly drama airing from 2006 through 2010, chronicling the lives of ordinary people whose mysterious superhuman powers led to internal conflicts and government conspiracies.  The series featured a star-studded cast, including Hayden Panettiere, Ali Larter, Adrian Pasdar, Milo Ventimiglia, Zachary Quinto, Santiago Cabrera, and Masi Oka.  During its first season, Heroes enjoyed an average American viewership of 14.3 million per weekly episode, with a premiere episode that achieved NBC's highest rating in five years.  Critically acclaimed, the show received numerous accolades, including a wealth of Primetime Emmy, Golden Globe, People's Choice and British Academy Television awards and nominations.

"Like so many others, I was a huge fan of Heroes during its original run," says writer Cullen Bunn.  "I was drawn to a cast of characters with interesting back stories and development, a setting boiling over with potential, and -- of course -- the exploration of superpowers in a 'real' world scenario. With this book, I have the opportunity to contribute to the mythology of the series in a way that will surprise readers.  When I was watching the show, I never could have imagined the direction I'd be taking the story.  The narrative I'm developing will be multi-layered, complex, and character-focused, and it will shake up the Heroes storyline in a major way.  I don't think anyone is expecting what we have in store for Claire, Hiro, Peter, Niki, Sylar, and the rest of the gang."

Cullen Bunn has written comic books for Oni Press (The Sixth Gun, Helheim, The Damned, and The Tooth) and Marvel Comics (Fearless Defenders, Deadpool Killustrated, Venom, Wolverine, and Spider-Man: Season One).  He also writes short fiction and novels, including the middle reader horror novel, Crooked Hills, and the collection of short horror fiction, Creeping Stones & Other Stories.

SDCC Announcement - The Godfather of Shock Rock Launches His First Ongoing Series!
Dynamite Announces Upcoming Alice Cooper Comics

July 17, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Comic book and graphic novel publisher Dynamite proudly announces that legendary rock star Alice Cooper will star in an upcoming comic book series, slated for release in 2014.

"We're doing many cool things with Dynamite, beginning with a new comics series which I am very excited about.  I always say that the best thing about being in a comic book is that they draw you with great abs!" says Alice Cooper.  "Artistically, for me there is hardly a better medium.  There is so much you can do in the form of a comic that we'd never been able to do on stage.  It's just a different way of storytelling, and it really has almost limitless possibilities.  We're looking forward to stretching the existing boundaries of the comic medium again.  We have new stories to tell, but we'll do it with the same theatrical, sinister sensibility that comes with the name ‘Alice Cooper'.  This is just the beginning!  Welcome to my NEW Nightmares!"

Renowned as the "Godfather of Shock Rock", Alice Cooper is an icon of rock 'n roll with a career spanning five decades.

Alice Cooper has been a subject and contributor to comic books over the years, first appearing as the centerpiece of a 1972 issue of Marvel Premiere.  As a companion to his 1994 concept album The Last Temptation, Cooper released a graphic novel of the same name, written by bestselling and critically acclaimed author Neil Gaiman (The Sandman, American Gods, Coraline) and illustrated by Michael Zulli.  Cooper also contributed a story in the Treehouse of Horror comic in 1995, a Halloween-themed spin-off from The Simpsons.

"Alice Cooper's on-stage persona, the ultimate shock rocker, is perfect for comic books," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "From his comic book debut in Marvel Premiere to The Last Temptation by Neil Gaiman, I've enjoyed the appearances Alice has made in comics.  We are excited to develop captivating and hypnotic comic storylines that incorporate the Sinister Showman's gothic flair and grandiose vision.  This is going to be one hell of a ride!"

SDCC Announcement - Dynamite Entertainment and
Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products Announce
Upcoming BOB'S BURGERS Comic Book Series

July 17, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce a partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products to develop comic book series content based on the popular cartoon series, Bob's Burgers.  An animated comedy, with new episodes debuting Sunday nights in September on FOX, Bob's Burgers features a unique visual style in addition to an engaging, family-fun dynamic that will undoubtedly translate into a high-quality and successful comic book series.

Bob's Burgers follows the ups and downs of Bob, who runs the Bob's Burgers restaurant with the help of his wife and their three kids.  Bob has big ideas about burgers, but his family falls short on service and sophistication.  The show debuted in 2011.  Numerous critics have applauded the series' offbeat sense of humor.  The show was recently nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Animated Program, and was also a Critics' Choice Television nominee for Best Animated Series.

"We could not be more pleased to add Bob's Burgers to the our line of comics," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of the comic and graphic novel publisher Dynamite.  "It's stylish and hilarious, a feel-good concept that can be both heartwarming and mischievous at the same time.  When we told our team that we were approaching Fox for the license, everyone lit up at the opportunity.  We look forward to working with our partners at Fox to put out a fantastic product that will appeal to readers of all ages."

SDCC Announcement - Dynamite Announces
The Twilight Zone™ Comic Book Series,
Signs Legendary Writer J. Michael Straczynski as Ongoing Writer
July 17, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite signed a deal with CBS Consumer Products to create a comic book series based on one of the most captivating television shows of all time, The Twilight Zone, featuring all-new tales of science and superstition as written by acclaimed author and Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski, one of the privileged few celebrated as a Special Guest of San Diego Comic-Con International 2013.

"One of the most deeply satisfying and creatively exciting experiences I've had in 25 years of writing for television and film was my stint on the new Twilight Zone television series," says Straczynski.  "I've been a fan of the original series since I was tall enough to reach for the TV tuner.  So I was profoundly excited when Nick Barrucci came to me with the possibility of doing the new Twilight Zone comic to come out from Dynamite."

The Twilight Zone took millions of television viewers on a weekly journey to another dimension, starting in 1959.  The enduring success of The Twilight Zone spawned three revival series (one of which featured episodes written by J. Michael Straczynski), a feature film, novels, comics, and other related merchandise.

Regarding the unique nature of The Twilight Zone series, Straczynski says, "The immediate creative question to be resolved was: how do you transplant or adapt the TV anthology format into comic form?  Individual stand-alone issues don't give the issue-to-issue continuity you need to consistently bring in modern readers, and if it's a year long arc, it's not an anthology.  The solution: three four-issue arcs that are connected by theme, character, and location... so that in reading one arc you get one side of the story, with its own supernatural or science-fiction elements, then you turn the character around to another character in that sequence who has his or her own story for the next four issues... and then at the end, you connect all of these individual stories into one overlapping tapestry, so you could literally view the book as individual stories as initially published, or layer the pages to create one big story.  It's a cool structure that I'm not sure has been attempted before, so this will be an awful lot of fun.  I'm very excited to be working with Nick and his team on this book, and hope folks will check out the books when they come out."

J. Michael Straczynski is the perfect choice to reinvent a television icon for the comics medium after spending many successful years straddling both media.  In television, Straczynski has written over 300 produced episodes and six TV movies.  In film, Straczynski's credits include five produced movies in six years: Changeling for director Clint Eastwood, Ninja Assassin for the Wachowkis, Thor for Kenneth Branagh, Underworld Awakening, and World War Z for Paramount and Brad Pitt.  He has written nearly 400 published comics for Marvel, DC and Image, including The Amazing Spider-Man for seven years, followed by Thor, The Fantastic Four, Before Watchmen, and others.

"It's a thrill, an absolute thrill, to not only develop new tales for Twilight Zone, but to welcome J. Michael Straczynski as our honored host," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "We've wanted to work with him for years, and it's finally materializing with this perfect combination: Straczynski and Twilight Zone, together again!  The energy and enthusiasm behind the scenes is going to yield some truly mind-blowing science fiction."

SDCC Announcement - Robotech Returns
In Crossover With Voltron!
Dynamite Partners with DC Entertainment,
World Events Productions, and Harmony Gold

July 16, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite Entertainment proudly announces that they have acquired the rights to publish comic books based on the beloved science fiction anime, Robotech®.  In a unique sub-licensing arrangement with DC Entertainment and with the Harmony Gold USA, Dynamite Entertainment will publish a new series beginning with a Robotech / Voltron crossover event.  This crossover marks the first time uniting the popular Robotech cast with the five lions of Voltron, a fan-favorite World Events Production property.

The Robotech series debuted in 1985, an adaptation combining concepts from three Japanese anime series (Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Genesis Climber Mospeada, and Super Dimension Century Southern Cross) into a new, cohesive narrative.  It followed three generations of Earth soldiers who salvaged and repurposed alien technology in combat against consecutive extraterrestrial invasions, and was animated by the renowned animation studio Tatsunoko Production Co.

Voltron, based on the story of five robotic lions piloted by a team of brave space explorers that combine to form a mighty metallic hero, launched in the U.S. in September of 1984 and quickly became a #1 rated animated series that will celebrate its 30th Anniversary in 2014.

"Robotech and Voltron are two of the most recognizable anime series that defined '80s pop culture," says Tommy Yune, creative director at Harmony Gold and mastermind behind the upcoming crossover.  "Both franchises have endured in their popularity today and fans have long speculated of an epic crossover between the universes.  The opportunity to do so is an honor, and it's a welcome challenge to construct a storyline that works well with key characters on both sides.  Most important of all, it's going to be a lot of fun with plenty of surprises."

"Robotech is one of the finest intellectual properties ever to come out of Japan, and we are so very fortunate to be able to contribute to its legacy of thrilling science fiction action and drama," says Nick Barrucci, CEO/Publisher of Dynamite Entertainment.  "We're also thankful to have such great partners on the Robotech journey, DC Comics and Harmony Gold, and joining us in this incredible first-ever crossover with Classic Media's Voltron.  We've published Voltron for years, and this is definitely rewarding to place the two fan-favorite universes together."

"Skyscraper-sized robots and city-crushing monsters are no strangers to the Dynamite gang, thanks to our fine experience with the Voltron license," adds Barrucci.  "We've been the proud home to Voltron since 2011, and I think our talented creators and editorial staff really balanced the science fiction and space fantasy elements of that franchise with the human story of its pilots.  We're very excited to continue the adventures of the Five Lions and the Voltron Force pilots as part of the crossover penned by Tommy Yune, and recapture the very best qualities of our previous Voltron series in this exciting new venture.  Robotech / Voltron is a fan's dream, one we're thrilled to add to our line of comics!"

The new Robotech / Voltron team-up adds additional content to Dynamite's existing Voltron projects, published as two series thus far and expanding the mythos licensed from World Events Productions.  The first-ever pairing of these two giant animated properties is expected to attract huge media and fan attention in time for Voltron's 30th Anniversary.  A new Robotech series will follow in the wake of the crossover.

The appreciation for the original Robotech television series, its comic spin-offs, and expansive universe of additional content runs deep at Dynamite, as evidenced by the passionate reflections of Joe Rybandt, the company's Senior Editor.  "Every day after school, I would watch Robotech and I loved it.  LOVED IT.  Probably for a lot of the same reasons that I loved Claremont's Uncanny X-Men, in that it was soap opera mixed with incredible action and excitement.  Also, it was my first introduction to episodic television starring giant robots and, y'know, GIANT ROBOTS.  I've gone back to the show every now and again, and still find it a rewarding experience, filled with great characters and amazing design. And now, here I sit, getting ready to set a new course with the comics."

SDCC Announcement - The Heart of the Beast
by Dean Motter, Judith Dupre, and Sean Phillips
Celebrates its 20th Anniversary with New Prestige Edition from Dynamite

July 17, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite is proud to announce that The Heart of the Beast, the hauntingly evocative graphic novel written by Dean Motter and Judith Dupré, and featuring lavishly painted artwork by Sean Phillips, will celebrate its 20th anniversary with an all-new prestige format edition.

With the tagline, "Science transformed his body, artistry inspired his soul," The Heart of the Beast explores the timeless themes of classic horror literature, set against the backdrop of New York City's decadent art world of the nineties.  Sandra, a beautiful and young bartender, meets the enigmatic Victor, a man with strange scars and stranger secrets.  A tale of gothic love and modern horror, this graphic novel drew praise from critics and comic fans alike.

"I had just finished writing and illustrating The Prisoner for DC when Vertigo approached me about pitching an original graphic novel," says co-writer Dean Motter.  "After writing Mister X and The Prisoner, I felt a bit ill-suited to do a supernatural story.  I thought that what I'd really like to do was a contemporary adult gothic drama.  I was a new arrival in New York, living in Tribeca and mesmerized by the local art scene.  It fascinated me.  My co-writer, Judith, was a curator and art critic living in lower Manhattan at the time.  In addition to acquainting me with the wonders of the city, she opened up some of the seedier sides of its art world as well.  We crafted our tale from our New York experiences, and our affection for art."

Regarding the era that served as inspiration for The Heart of the Beast, co-writer Judith Dupré shares, "Soho was the belly button of the global art scene in the 1980s, with collectors coming in from all over the world.  They'd snap up entire shows of the artists who were hot.  Prices were high and so were the piles of cocaine.  Fortunes were made overnight to the tune of Madonna's 'Lucky Star.'  Artists without a coin to toss suddenly were buying racehorses.  One Swiss collector sent a dealer a perfectly shaped, full-size female leg - made of milk chocolate - to thank him for a painting.  For months, we'd hack off chunks of it, gobbling it down like cannibals.  There were dark shadows, too.  Art that wasn't even on the market, in some cases not even made yet, was being traded and sold.  Mark Kostabi, Warhol's bastard child, had his 15 minutes of fame, churning out copies of masterworks in a literal art factory.  In 1985, the artist Ana Mendieta fell or was pushed from her 34th floor apartment window.  That same year saw a sadomasochistic 'death mask murder' case involving a well-known 57th Street art dealer and his assistant.  AIDS didn't have a label yet, but stables of artists were dying, their creativity snuffed.  Tribeca bars - Puffy's and Mickey's - were our shared living rooms.  Area, an amazing dance club, had revolving themes - going there was like dancing inside an art installation.  We'd creep home from the clubs as the sun rose.  Then I'd become a gallerina.  I'd sit in the gallery, totally without power but having a front row seat to the comings and goings of artists, collectors, and art world cognoscenti."

Dupré continues, "Writing The Heart of the Beast was a way to honor those wild, exciting, and uncertain times.  It was great fun inventing a new Rembrandt - apparently, I didn't sleep through all my art history classes.  Paging through the book, I get sentimental seeing those things that are no longer new, like ATM cards, or no longer used, like answering machines.  Art, though, is a constant.  Sean did an amazing job capturing the sultry grit of lower Manhattan."

"I'm very pleased that this early work is being made available again from the fine folks at Dynamite," says Sean Phillips.  "This was my first major project for an American publisher and it sank without trace twenty years ago.  Now people have another chance to read Dean and Judith's great story and to see me learn to paint in watercolours on the job.  I'd like to think I've got better at painting since I finished Heart Of The Beast, but I'm not so sure.  I'm still really pleased with the work I did on this book and just wish I could remember how to paint like that again."

Concerning the complimentary nature of The Heart of the Beast's story and art, Motter adds, "Sean was the ideal illustrator for the story.  Perfectly real without the affectations of urban commentary.  The terror of the story comes, not from the conventional horrific tropes of a lesser artist, but from the counterpoint of his masterfully sublime illustrations and mounting unseen dread in our script.  I've always been proud of this effort and am extremely happy to see it re-presented by Dynamite.  I've been told it was ahead of its time.  I hope twenty years is enough."

"The Heart of the Beast was one of those rarities from the early 1990s that could only have materialized when it did, because the world was only starting to understand and appreciate the artistry, the depth, and the literary value of the graphic novel," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "Dean Motter and Judith Dupré presented an emotional, grab-you-by-the-heart tale, a revisionist take on a creature of classic gothic horror.  And the artwork of Sean Phillips is just gorgeous, with paintings so lifelike and emotive, you just knew that he was destined for greatness."

Eisner Award-winning artist Sean Phillips is one of the most highly respected comic artists of his generation.  A professional illustrator for over twenty-five years, he has worked for all the major American and British comic publishers, as well as other clients including Twentieth Century Fox, Sony, Maxim and Island Records.  Versatile with both paint and pen-and-ink, he is perhaps best known for his work on such titles as Sleeper, Wildcats, Batman, Hellblazer, Fatale, Incognito, and Criminal.  In October 2013, Phillips will receive a career retrospective hardcover with 350 pieces of artwork (including 70 never-before-seen illustrations), entitled The Art of Sean Phillips, published by Dynamite Entertainment.

Dean Motter is an illustrator, designer, and writer best known in the comic industry as the creator of the influential 1980s "New Wave" comic, Mister X, now in its 30th year.  Having served at DC Comics as the overseer of corporate and licensing designs for their many characters in the 1990s, Motter went on to create the acclaimed Vertigo miniseries Terminal City and contribute to such titles as Hellblazer, Superman Adventures, The Spirit, and the Eisner Award winning graphic novel Batman: Nine Lives, as well as Star Wars Tales, Grendel, and Wolverine.

Judith Dupré is passionate about the built world. A New York Times bestselling author, she has written several illustrated books about art and architecture, including Skyscrapers, the best selling book in the world on that topic; Bridges; Churches; and Monuments: America's History in Art and Memory. Her books have been published in 10 languages. Dupré holds degrees from Brown University and Yale University, and studied at the Open Atelier of Design and Architecture in lower Manhattan.  Her first love has always been the visual arts.  After working as a gallerina at several Soho art galleries, she became the curator of the Harry N. Abrams Collection of Pop Art that included works by Warhol, Marisol, Jasper Johns, and Rauschenberg.  Dupré lived in Tribeca, where much of The Heart of the Beast unfolds, for 18 years.

SDCC Announcement - Howard Chaykin Returns to The Shadow
on Brand-New Midnight in Moscow Miniseries

July 16, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite is proud to announce that legendary writer/artist Howard Chaykin will write his first new tale of The Shadow in nearly thirty years.  The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow will take place three decades prior to the events of his critically acclaimed Blood & Judgment series.  Chaykin will reprise his creative role both as writer and artist for this new venture.

"I'm delighted and grateful to Dynamite for the opportunity to work once again on so legendary a character as The Shadow," says Chaykin.  "My new miniseries, The Shadow: Midnight in Moscow, tells the secret story behind the Shadow's disappearance in 1949."  While this new series marks his return to Shadow storytelling, he hasn't strayed far from the character in recent years, contributing gorgeous cover artwork for Dynamite's variety of Shadow series.

"The Shadow: Blood & Judgment is one of my favorite comic series of all time," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "It absolutely blows my mind, still to this day.  I can't even begin to express how much this means to me as the publisher of the series and how much as a fan of Howard's series.  Howard Chaykin's return to the character is going to be phenomenal.  And in a move that will certainly keep his fans on their toes, he's setting Midnight in Moscow up not as a direct sequel to his earlier work, but years and years beforehand, at an exciting and critical moment in the Shadow's history.  I have such tremendous respect for Howard as a storyteller, a true modern master of the comic book medium."

Howard Chaykin is a legend in the comics industry, with an exceptionally respected body of work spanning four decades.  He is perhaps best known for American Flagg!, a series published by First Comics in 1982.  Chaykin wrote and illustrated the first twelve issues exclusively, and was praised by critics and readers alike.  In 1985, Chaykin wrote and drew The Shadow for DC Comics, the acclaimed run that would later be collected by Dynamite as The Shadow: Blood & Judgment.  He is the recipient of Inkpot and Eisner Awards.  His extensive library of comics work includes such titles as Star Wars, Black Kiss, American Century, Challengers of the Unknown, Blackhawk, Hawkgirl, Blade, Punisher War Journal, and Satellite Sam.  He was also executive script consultant for The Flash television series on CBS, and later worked on action-adventure programs such as Viper, Earth: Final Conflict, and Mutant X.

The Shadow began its existence in 1930 as a narrative voice on the Street and Smith radio program Detective Story Hour.  The audience thrilled to the serialized adventures of this mysterious figure, whose mythos expanded to include Occidental mysticism, hypnotic powers over weak criminal minds, and twin .45 caliber handguns.  With a keen intellect and relentless drive, The Shadow hunted criminals without mercy in an era when gumshoe detectives and bootlegging mobsters was a thrilling yet fearsome reality.  The character's popularity has endured for over 80 years, bolstered by appearances in radio serials, novels, comic books, films, and more.  In recent years, Dynamite published a groundbreaking and well-received Shadow series launched by comic writer Garth Ennis (Preacher), with further tales crafted by Victor Gischler and Chris Roberson.  Lamont Cranston's grim alter-ego has also appeared in such related series as The Shadow: Year One, Masks, and The Shadow / Green Hornet: Dark Nights.

SDCC Announcement - Duane Swierczynski
Explores Life on the Outside in
Ex-Con, The Third Project from Dynamite's Crime Line

July 16, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite proudly welcomes Duane Swierczynski as the latest high-profile writer to contribute to their growing Crime Line of comic books, with an all-new thriller called Ex-Con.  This announcement arrives in conjunction with the writer's appearance at San Diego Comic-Con as a Special Guest of the show.

"This is the first time I'm actually writing a full-on hardboiled crime comic," says Swierczynski.  "Which is strange, because I've been a crime novelist for almost a decade now and love crime comics more than any other genre. Finally, thanks to the folks at Dynamite, two of my great loves are colliding in Ex-Con."

The premise of Ex-Con fits perfectly alongside Dynamite's current roster of hard-hitting Crime Line titles, Red Team (by Garth Ennis and Craig Cermak) and Uncanny (by Andy Diggle and Aaron Campbell).  "As the name implies, we're going to be following a jailbird freshly sprung from San Quentin after five brutal years," says Swierczynski.  "This is a high-level con artist who thought he could out-think the cops, his marks, his competitors -- pretty much everybody -- and five years later, he's still reeling.  To stay alive inside, he had to promise a favor to a convict who's pretty much a living nightmare in a cage, and now that our man is out, he dreads having to pay up."

Swierczynski also hints at a twist in the storytelling.  "There's also a psychological angle to Ex-Con that I don't want to spoil quite yet, but it's something to do with neurology, and you're going to see it on the very first page of the conflict.  I love crime stories with unreliable narrators... but our guy is unreliable in a completely different way.  I'm hoping readers of my crime novels (like Fun & Games and The Wheelman) will feel right at home with Ex-Con.  Likewise, I hope comic fans who have followed me through series like Punisher, Judge Dredd, and X will give this a shot, too."

Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite, adds, "I can't express how happy I am to finally announce our first project with Duane.  I first started speaking with Duane many years ago as he was beginning his second career in comics, adding to his prose work.  But we weren't the only publisher pursuing him.  In speaking with him, it seemed obvious that his best road to start would be the exclusivity that Marvel was offering.  We stayed in touch, and when his exclusive was over he was free to work with us on new projects, the Crime Line seemed to be perfect for him.  Definitely worth the wait, as I feel that Duane Swierczynski is one of the smartest writers in comics today, with a huge library of mainstream powerhouses to his name.  He's also an accomplished author of crime novels, and I can think of no one better suited for delivering gripping and brutal crime drama.  Keep an eye out for Ex-Con, it will be like no other title on the stands!"

Dynamite also announces that renowned artist Tim Bradstreet (Punisher, The Shadow) will provide cover artwork for the Ex-Con series.

Duane Swierczynski currently writes Judge Dredd for IDW, X for Dark Horse, and recently completed a run on DC Comics' Birds of Prey. He's also written Cable, Deadpool, Punisher, Werewolf By Night, Immortal Iron Fist and Black Widow for Marvel, as well as Bloodshot for Valiant. Duane is the author of author the Edgar-nominated and Anthony Award-winning novel Expiration Date, as well the Shamus Award-winning Charlie Hardie series (Fun & Games, Hell & Gone), which has been also been nominated for Anthony, Macavity, and Barry awards and is currently being developed by Sony Pictures Television. Duane has also collaborated with CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker on a series of bestselling "digi-novel" thrillers which include Level 26: Dark Origins, Dark Prophecy, and Dark Revelations.

SDCC Announcement - Dynamite Signs Peter Milligan,
Announces Upcoming Launch of Milligan's "Terminal Hero" Series

July 15, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite Entertainment is pleased to announce that Peter Milligan (Shade the Changing Man, X-Statix, Hellblazer) has signed a deal to create a new series entitled Terminal Hero.  Milligan's partnership with Dynamite is unprecedented as this marks his first work outside of Marvel Comics and DC Comics since the days of his earlier projects, Paradax and Johnny Nemo.

"I've watched with interest how Dynamite has expanded both physically and creatively over the years," says Milligan.  "During that time, Nick Barrucci and I have discussed working on a project on and off, but due to a number of reasons, things never quite worked out.  Now I have a project which demands a certain kind of publisher -- one who'll give me a lot a creative latitude and is willing to go to some dark, edgy, and honest places.  Terminal Hero is about one poor bastard's rollercoaster ride through a world that he's trying to make sense of.  It's about how far you'd go to stay alive.  Okay, it occasionally plays with the classic comic book 'hero' genre, but I aim to push it to places that normal comic books don't go.  Luckily, Dynamite isn't afraid to go there!"

Peter Milligan is an award-winning London-based writer of comic books and graphic novels, published in many languages throughout the world.  His work includes groundbreaking titles such as the psychedelic Shade The Changing Man and Skin, about a skinhead suffering from the effects of Thalidomide, up to Greek Street, an homage to Greek myth seen through the prism of violent modern-day London.  His work also includes the more mainstream, from Batman to the successful and critically acclaimed re-imagining of the X-Men myth: X-Statix, described by Kevin Smith (Clerks) as "the most well-observed scholarly analysis of media-manipulation filtered through a pop-culture lens ever committed to the page."  Milligan has had two films produced: Pilgrim starring Ray Liotta, and An Angel For May, starring Tom Wilkinson.

"Peter Milligan is a storytelling wild card -- you can never, ever anticipate where his story will flow," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "He's also one of the most well-respected writers in comics, and deservedly so.  I actually approached Peter about working together in London a bit before Dynamite launched and he was intrigued, but we hadn't put everything together yet, and before we could take it to the next level, he signed his exclusive with Marvel.  He later signed exclusively with DC.  Over the years we've kept in touch, and worked to find a series which he would enjoy that would take the world by storm.  We're so excited to welcome him to aboard as the latest in a very impressive body of high-profile creators."

"I had thought that after working with creators like Alex Ross, Matt Wagner, and Garth Ennis -- to name a few -- that perhaps I had peaked, that I could be excited no more to work with a creator whose work was formative to my understanding and appreciation of comics.  And then comes Peter Milligan," adds Joe Rybandt, Senior Editor of Dynamite.  "From his work on Shade and Hellblazer and X-Force/Statix and everything in-between and beyond, Peter is a visionary and true talent.  To collaborate with him and be part of his first project with us here at Dynamite just shows there's always another surprise around the career corner."

SDCC Announcement - Tony Lee Writes
New Battlestar Galactica Miniseries,
Spotlights Origin of Fan-Favorite Character Starbuck

July 15, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite proudly announces that the #1 New York Times bestselling author Tony Lee (Doctor Who, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Superboy) will spotlight the origin of a beloved sci-fi character in the upcoming Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck four-issue miniseries, based on the NBCUniversal television show.  The Starbuck miniseries is based on the classic 1978 version of Battlestar Galactica and is licensed through the NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group.

Tony Lee will bring the science fiction sensibilities honed on such comics as Doctor Who and Star Trek to the Battlestar Galactica franchise, exploring a fan-favorite character immortalized on television by actor Dirk Benedict.  Lt. Starbuck, a likable rogue who serves as a Viper pilot aboard the spacefaring battleship, is a character with more than enough charisma and innate heroism to carry his own solo series.  "I've always liked the scoundrels," says Lee. "Han Solo and Starbuck taught me a lot about life between them, so I probably owe a whole load of broken relationships and split lips during my teen years to them both."

Lee continues, "When Dynamite came to me with a suggestion to do a Starbuck story, I jumped at the opportunity.  Bar the fact that he was an amnesiac child after the attack on Umbra, we don't know much about Starbuck's history, mainly because we only had thirteen episodes (and a flashback Galactica 1980 special) to learn about him.  I wanted to fill in these gaps.  I wanted to see the Starbuck that existed before the show.  How did he meet Apollo?  Why does Adama treat him like a surrogate son?  Who taught him to smoke and gamble and womanize?  What shaped the man we know, and more importantly, why did the Cylons attack Umbra that fateful day?  That right there was when I knew the story I wanted to tell."

Battlestar Galactica: Starbuck will truly explore a beloved character whose past life remained -- until now -- a mystery.  An episode of the classic television series entitled "The Man with Nine Lives" aired in 1979, with the character Chameleon only briefly mentioning that Starbuck was an amnesiac child on Umbra.  Practically his entire life, from being discovered as a feral child through the moment he first appears in the pilot episode "Saga of the Star World," is an unexplored territory that Lee gleefully will venture into.

Tony Lee is a #1 New York Times bestselling author with work including Superboy for DC Comics, Spider-Man and The X-Men for Marvel, both Tenth and Eleventh Doctor ongoing Doctor Who series for IDW, The Gloom and Agent Mom for MTV, the Baker Street Irregulars series of children's graphic novels for Hachette / Franklin Watts, and Doctor Who, Dorian Gray, and Bernice Summerfield audio dramas for Big Finish.  He wrote a MacGyver series for Image Comics with show creator Lee David Zlotoff, has co-written a Star Trek: The Next Generation / Doctor Who series for IDW, and adapted Amanda Hocking's Hollowland novel into comics for Dynamite.

Nick Barrucci, the CEO and Publisher of Dynamite, says, "I have the utmost respect for Tony Lee as a writer, and can't wait to see the thrills of his Starbuck script take form on a comics page.  Bringing Tony aboard the good spaceship Battlestar is a pleasure because the story's in good hands, and the fact that he's also a great self-promoter will help the series receive even more awareness!  This is a man who will beat the drum ceaselessly and draw readers to the project."

The announcement of the new Starbuck miniseries comes just months after the successful 2013 launch of Dynamite's ongoing Battlestar Galactica series, a bestseller written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (the creative team responsible for the Guardians of the Galaxy comic series which inspired the upcoming Marvel film).  The overwhelming fan support of the series, which is set in the classic television show from the late 1970s, resulted in a sweeping renewed interest in the Battlestar Galactica franchise during the year of its 35th Anniversary.  Dynamite had previously published a wealth of content set in the reimagined universe of the Syfy Battlestar Galactica series from the past decade, all still available for sale as graphic novel collections.

SDCC Announcement - Dynamite to Launch
Legends of Red Sonja Prestige Miniseries
Featuring Top Female Novelists and Comic Book Writers

July 15, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Following on the immense success of the newly launched Red Sonja ongoing series by Gail Simone, Dynamite proudly announces the upcoming Legends of Red Sonja prestige miniseries, an extravaganza celebrating the iconic fantasy heroine's long and storied career.  Legends of Red Sonja is a collaborative effort uniting Simone with a star-studded and prestigious creative team including Marjorie M. Liu, Mercedes Lackey, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Rhianna Pratchett, Leah Moore, Tamora Pierce, Blair Butler, Nancy Collins, Meljean Brook, Nicola Scott, Devin Grayson, and more to be announced.  Frank Thorne, one of the key artists responsible for defining the character's distinct look, will be among the artists to contribute cover artwork, as will Jay Anacleto.

"When it was first decided that I would be taking part in the relaunch of Red Sonja, we had what I thought was a very fun idea, which was to have all the covers and variant covers be drawn by top female artists," says Gail Simone, an industry legend with celebrated runs on Birds of Prey, Secret Six, and Batgirl.  "The idea just took off, as some of my artistic heroes, people like Colleen Doran, Amanda Conner, and Nicola Scott all contributed these gorgeous, eye-popping pieces of art for the book.  It made everyone tremendously happy and gave us a wonderful extra kick for our relaunch of this classic character.  So when Dynamite told me that the 40th anniversary of Red Sonja was coming up, I thought, 'I wonder if we could do the same thing, but with all my favorite female writers?'  I can't tell you how exciting this is for me, it's something I've wanted to do for years."

The structure of the Legends of Red Sonja prestige series will be, in Simone's words, "a braided story, with individual, unique stories written by titans of comics, prose, and the gaming world.  These are all powerful voices whose work I adore.  Dynamite asked me to make a list of the women I'd love to see included, and again, I was astounded at the eager responses!  We have giants of the fantasy and horror prose world; Tamora Pierce, Nancy Collins, Mercedes Lackey, and Meljean Brook. We have some of the hottest comics talents; Marjorie M. Liu, Kelly Sue DeConnick, Leah Moore, Devin Grayson and (in her first published story as a writer) Nicola Scott.  And we have brilliant writers from games and television; Rhianna Pratchett and Blair Butler.  Getting to hand-pick this crew of fierce women was an absolute joy, and the fun of it is, we're all fans of Red Sonja, and of each other.  Throwing ideas back and forth and shaping the stories has been some of the most fun I've ever had in comics.  I can't wait for people to read these takes on Red Sonja...some are funny, some are scary, some are very different versions of Sonja than we are familiar with!"

Many of Gail Simone's hand-picked contributors have shared their excitement about the project:

Rhianna Pratchett (Heavenly Sword, Mirror's Edge): "I treasured my Red Sonja poster when I was kid.  So to get the opportunity to write a story for the character, and to do it in the company of such extraordinary, talented women, is a dream come true.  My younger self is definitely high-fiving my older self."

Leah Moore (Doctor Who: The Whispering Gallery, Sherlock Holmes: The Liverpool Demon):  "It's not everyday that Gail Simone asks me to write Red Sonja.  To be honest, I'm glad, because when it happened, I had to be peeled off the ceiling.  Writing Red Sonja has been a personal ambition of mine for a long time.  She is about the most fun a writer can have.  She's a loner, a grouch, a badass, and is apparently impervious to cold.  I am almost too excited about this project to actually write the thing, which is counter-productive, really."

Tamora Pierce (The Song of the Lioness, Mastiff):  "This is the coolest project ever: new stories crafted by some of the best writers and artists out there, about a woman warrior created by one of my literary idols, Robert E. Howard, spearheaded by my comics goddess, Gail Simone.  I'm honored to be a part of this, and can't wait to see the whole thing.  It will be a ground-breaking, multilayered view of a character who has been brawling through comics for decades!"

Blair Butler (Heart, host of MSN's Nerdcore):  "I'm honored and exceedingly intimidated to be included in this group of talented creators.  Gail Simone is amazing -- and her take on Red Sonja is something I've been looking forward to since it was announced way back at Emerald City Comic-Con.  So when she asked me to contribute, I agreed immediately, even though I'm totally nervous about it."

Nancy Collins (Swamp Thing, VAMPS):  "I am thrilled to have been chosen by Gail Simone to participate in Legends of Red Sonja.  I remember how excited I was when I plucked Conan the Barbarian #23 off the spinner rack as a kid, all those years ago, and finally saw a female hero capable of dishing it out with the best of them.  I am honored to have been given this chance to add to Red Sonja's mythos."

Meljean Brook (Iron Seas, Demon Angel):  "I'm absolutely thrilled to be writing a story for the she-devil, Red Sonja.  I first encountered Red Sonja in the movie with Nielsen and Schwarzenegger when I was about eight years old -- and I know that movie isn't without its problems, but it's almost impossible to describe how incredible it was to watch a film in which the heroine was just as strong and as tough as the muscle-bound hero.  I loved that she was arrogant, skilled, and never wimped out or waited for rescue, and I immediately went out in search of similar stories about her.  Red Sonja was a revelation to eight-year-old me, and I can trace many of the heroines I write today back to those roots."

"Wow.  Gail and the editorial team at Dynamite have put together an incredible team of creators - a prestigious and impressive list - on a series that celebrates one of the strongest female characters in comics.  I can say, that they have done an incredible job together, and I thank them," says Dynamite CEO and Publisher Nick Barrucci.

SDCC Announcement - Dynamite Signs
Multi-Award Winning Writer James Robinson,
Announces New Robinson Series "Grand Passion"

July 15, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite is proud to announce that celebrated comic book writer James Robinson (Starman, Justice Society of America, Earth 2, Leave It to Chance) has signed a deal to create a new series entitled Grand Passion.  This partnership marks the first time that Robinson will work with Dynamite Entertainment to develop new content.

"I'm thrilled to be working with Nick Barrucci and Dynamite Entertainment on a series I think will surprise a lot of readers," James said. "Grand Passion is definitely a departure from what I've been doing in the last few years.  This series is about two wayward characters Doc and Mabel -- one a cop, the other a crook -- who are fated to fall in love at first sight even as Mabel swears she'll kill Doc if it's the last thing she does.  It marries elements of a Harlequin romance with hard-boiled crime and takes it off in a direction that's surprising, funny, violent, and sexy.  I'm very excited to roll up my sleeves and immerse myself in writing this tale."

Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite, says, "I have known and been friends with James Robinson for nearly two decades, and wanted to work with him since the launch of Dynamite.  Between James' exclusivity with DC Comics and our growing Dynamite, it took time to find the right project.  After some nice conversations, the right project came together.  I am thrilled to welcome James Robinson's Grand Passion to comics retailers and fans.  This is something I've wanted to see happen for a long, long time.  I think the world of James -- his imagination, talent, and detail to attention.  We'll be releasing more information and art as they are ready, but prepare to see something completely new and unexpected from this fan-favorite, brilliant writer!"

James Robinson is a British writer of comic books and screenplays.  Perhaps best known for the DC Comics title Starman, he received tremendous critical and fan praise for his groundbreaking reinvention of an obscure hero into a beloved series deserving of an Eisner Award for Best Serialized Story.  An expert at revitalizing classic concepts with a fresh new look and perspective, Robinson has written acclaimed story arcs in such titles as The Golden Age, Justice Society of America, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Hawkman, and more.  His creator-owned series Leave It to Chance won two more Eisner Awards in 1997, for Best New Series and Best Title for Younger Readers.  Additionally, he was nominated for an Eisner Award for Justice League: Cry for Justice.  He also wrote the screenplay for the 2003 movie version of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

SDCC Announcement - Acclaimed Writer Steve Niles to Turn
New ASH AND THE ARMY OF DARKNESS
Ongoing Series into the
Ultimate Experience in Medieval Horror

July 15, 2013, Mt. Laurel, NJ:  Dynamite is proud to announce that their flagship comic book title, Army of Darkness, will receive a complete overhaul and a new ongoing series as imagined by Steve Niles, acclaimed author of 30 Days of Night and Batman: Gotham County Line.  A horror/action series with dark comedic overtones, the newly-titled Ash and the Army of Darkness continues the time-traveling, demon-fighting adventures of Ash Williams, the smart-mouthed hero of the 1992 cult-favorite film of the same name.

"What I'm doing with Ash and the Army of Darkness is a complete reboot," says Niles.  "We start and the last frame of the film and then go right to the next.  It's a wild ride and I think fans of the film will be very happy because I am bringing back a lot of what made the movie so fun.  My run of Ash and the Army of Darkness takes place almost entirely in the 1300's setting. That was what made Army of Darkness stand apart.  I'm hoping readers agree."

Comic book writer and novelist Steve Niles is credited as being an instrumental force in bringing horror comics back to prominence in recent years.  Perhaps his best-known work is 30 Days of Night, a best-selling vampire series co-created with innovative illustrator Ben Templesmith and adapted into a feature film.  His impressive list of credits include such licensed and creator-owned tales of terror as I Am Legend, Hellspawn, Chin Music, Simon Dark, The X-Files, Remains, Criminal Macabre, and 28 Days Later

"I'm very excited to be working with Dynamite and thrilled to be working on Ash and the Army of Darkness," adds Niles. "The film is one of my favorites and I think we have a really fresh, exciting take for Ash's continuing adventures fighting the dead.  Dynamite has been expanding their line and have an impressive array of comic creators working with them now.  I'm looking forward to joining the team."

Placing Steve Niles on Ash and the Army of Darkness follows Dynamite's recent trend of reinventing their established classics, thanks in no small part to partnering established industry writers with projects that naturally fit their narrative strengths.  To name just a few of their recent publishing moves:  the talented Gail Simone (Birds of Prey, Batgirl) launched a new incarnation of Red Sonja, the sci-fi team of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning (Guardians of the Galaxy) have retooled the classic Battlestar Galactica, and superhero legend Mark Waid (Daredevil, Kingdom Come) brought The Green Hornet back to basics.  These projects have met with critical acclaim and high sales, and the new Ash and the Army of Darkness promises to continue the trend.

"I am really excited to welcome Steve Niles on-board for the Ash and the Army of Darkness relaunch," says Nick Barrucci, CEO and Publisher of Dynamite.  "There's no writer in recent years whose name has been attached to more bestselling horror comic concepts than Steve, and for good reason -- he's got an amazing talent for writing hard-hitting, white-knuckle, edge-of-your-seat fright fiction.  Army of Darkness has a legion of hardcore fans, and they deserve the best.  Well, they're getting the best, courtesy of Steve Niles!"  Dynamite expects longtime fans and curious newcomers to welcome a new creative voice, story direction, title, and logo for a horror classic with Ash and the Army of Darkness.
