Okay. There are TWO separate threads going on this forum at the moment debating DC's postFlashpoint plans.

I figured there needed to be someplace where we can discuss the known facts on the matter as they become confirmed.

The (status) is based upon whether or not the title was already published in some incarnation before the end of Flashpoint.

The Johnny DC and Vertigo lines/titles are basically unaffected since DC has reclaimed all their characters back into the DCU proper from Vertigo, although John Constantine appears to be doing double duty on both sides.

There is no word on the fate of any licensed property, nor of the continuation of Kurt Busiek's Astro City as of June 24, 2011.

Now then...

  • 01. DC is planning to relaunch their entire super-hero line in September and is restarting the planned 52 titles within this event back at #1, even if the series was already at a much higher number.

    02. With this relaunch, DC is also starting a new digital release policy.

    03. The existing Vertigo and Johnny DC (all ages) titles/lines are not part of the renumbering launch.

    04. DC has already had some major corporate reorganizing to become more fully intergrated within the AOL/Time-Warner Brothers family.

    05. As with previous mega events, it should come as no surprise that the "reset" button has been pushed, but never to this extent/magnitude.

With all that said, as of the evening of June 4, 2011, here are the confirmed titles within the 52 series. Their designation is based upon whether or not they were already being published before the conclusion of Flashpoint.

    01. Justice League (relaunch), by Geoff Johns and Jim Lee.

    02. Wonder Woman (relaunch) by Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang,

    03. Aquaman (new) by Johns and Ivan Reis.

    04. The Flash (relaunch) by Brian Buccellatto, but at the moment we're uncertain who will be the spotlighted scarlet speedster.

    05. The Fury of Firestorm (new) by Ethan Van Sciver, Gail Simone, and Yiddiray Cinar.

    06. The Savage Hawkman (new) by Tony Daniel and Phillip Tan.

    07. Green Arrow (relaunch) by J. T. Krul and Dan Jurgens.

    08. Justice League International (new) by Jurgens and Aaron Lopresti.

    09. Mister Terrific (new) by Eric Wallace and Roger Robinson.

    10. Captain Atom (new) by Krul and Freddie Williams II.

    11. DC Universe Presents (new): an anthology title akin to the original Showcase and Adventure Comics.

    12. Green Lantern (relaunch) by Johns and Doug Manhke.

    13. Green Lantern Corps (relaunch) by Peter Tomasi and Fernando Pasarin.

    14. Green Lantern: The New Guardians (new) by Tony Bedard and Tyler Kirkham.

    15. Red Lanterns (new) by Peter Milligan and Ed Benes.

There is also supposed to be a relaunch of the Justice Society and a title that at least is using the name Birds of Prey. Superman and Batman will each have at least one title. But with continuity starting over for the entire DC Universe to some extent, who will be the Dark Knight and whether or not Lois Lane and Clark Kent are still married remains to be seen.

So we only have some knowledge about 4 of the remaining 37 titles at this time.

    Thoughts?

Shouldn't all this supposition be in one of the other non-100% factual threads?

  • This makes it easy for me to completely switch to Trades.

As of right now, the only books I'm interested in are Green Lantern and GL Corps with Cap Atom a possibility and DCU Presents a possibility. DCU Presents, though, starts off with a 4 issue Deadman story and Deadman isn't really one of my fav characters so I may skip the first arc.

I like that they are bringing JLI back with August General in Iron from Great Ten but I'd rather see a Great Ten book.

  • Figserello, et al.

The return/continuation of the Justice Society, Batman, and Superman; are confirmed facts.

Only the name Birds of Prey was listed because while it is supposed to be one of the 52, it's unknown whether it will continue the Oracle led team or possible feature a new combination of Hawk and Dove, because there is also a rumor afloat that a fully healed Barbara Gordon is allegedly going to resume her Batgirl career.

At this time I should also mention that the Batwoman title, which was supposed to start this Spring, but got pushed back to this fall (allegedly so the creative team could get ahead production wise), is also a likely candidate for being amongst the 52.

Yet while you are right that this thread was started with the intention of discussing the known facts, considering Superman and Batman are pictured as part of the new Justice Leagues (both are pictured with the JLA, while A Batman is shown with the JLI), it is highly unlikely that they will not have their own series. But whether that also includes their continued presence within Action and Detective Comics respectively, let alone the continuation of the Superman/Batman title, remains to be seen.

  • Okay folks. Between Comic Book Resources and DC's The Source, we have new, confirmed information to report on what will be forthcoming. All this deals with the Batman family of titles.

Picking up where we left off, the confirmed releases are:

    16. Batman (relaunch) by Scott Snyder and Greg Capulio. Bruce Wayne is allegedly going forward as the ONLY Batman.

    17. Detective Comics (relaunch) by Tony Daniel.

    18. Batman and Robin (relaunch) by Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. Damian Wayne WILL continue as Robin.

    19. Batman: The Dark Knight (relaunch) by David Finch.

    20. Birds of Prey (relaunch) by Duane Swierczynski and Jesus Saiz, will now be a covert ops team, leader unknown. Cover image features Poison Ivy, Black Canary, Scandal Savage, and a woman I don't recognize.

    21. Catwoman (new) by Judd Winick and Guillem March.

    22. Batgirl (relaunch) by Gail Simone and Ardian Syaf. No idea who'se wearing the cowl, but she is portrayed as a RED head!

    23. Batwoman (new) by J. H. Williams II and Amy Reeder. The official launch of the series that was supposed to start this Spring.

If your favorite or hopeful hasn't appeared yet, remember: there are still 29 titles to be announced, although with the previously mentioned Justice Society and Superman, the official confirmation of Detective Comics continuing probably means Action Comics will resume as well. But that still leaves 26 titles to be determined.

  • Well, DC has revealed that it IS Barbara Gordon as Batgirl.

(By the way, I like the idea of a thread that's a clearinghouse of official information.)

  • Thanks for the support Rob.

But I have not posted confirmation about Barbara Gordon because I have yet to actually see any myself.

All I can say for sure at the moment is what I wrote for Birds of Prey and Batgirl in the post before yours. Yet regardless of who is wearing the cowl, Gail Simone writing will at least make me take a peak at the first issue.

  • DC's the source blog has some quotes from Gail Simone about it. Also on the Source is the announcement of

    24. Nightwing #1, starring Dick Grayson, by Kyle Higgins and Eddy Barrows.

  • Lee, this is a great thread, thank you for starting it.  I'll add this:  Flash will be drawn and co-written by Francis Manapul, the artist on the most recent Flash series.  After Geoff Johns brought him back with such fanfare, I would be surprised if it is not Barry Allen under the cowl.
  • 24. Nightwing (new), as stated above in Rob's post.

    25. Batwing (new) by Winick and Ben Oliver. A spin off from Batman, Inc.; a series that is supposed to return in 2012 so Grant Morrison can conclude his "six year Bat-epic".

While interesting concepts, and good to hear that Dick Grayson survives yet another major crisis like event in the DCU, I think there might wind up being some name confusion between the two titles.
