WAIT. This is one of the best new shows from 2017, if not THE best. So much more than a Seth McFarland comedy. It's much closer to Star Trek than Family Guy.
Wandering Sensei Johnson is right!
In the absence of Star Trek [and Star Trek is absent AFAIC, until Discovery is made available on DVD or some other format to which I have access (pun intended)], The Orville is a welcome substitute. It's not only a spot-on spoof of ST:TNG, most episodes are better than the source.
I really like this show. And my wife, who hasn't been interested in any Star Trek series except the original, is also a fan.
This show is brilliant. Can't wait until the new season begins.
A welcome return! The show that is more "Star Trek" than Star Trek! We watched the first episode last night. (Now it moves to its regular slot on Thursdays.) To me it's like a continuation of Star Trek: The Next Generation in which all the dialogue is provided by MST3K.
It didn't skip a beat, did it? Great episode!
Isaac continues to be my favorite character on the show.
For a comedy, The Orville wouldn't necessarily have to spend so much on special effects, but they don't skimp. Also, the subject matter deals with some pretty heavy topics. I expected them to (somehow) rescue all of the natives.
I was surprised that it was only a partial rescue, too. My wife and I both thought that the porn addiction story line was a bit heavy-handed. Made us wonder if there wasn't some personal history among the writing staff.
