ROB LIEFELD VARIANT INTRODUCES NEW CHARACTER—THE POUCH—TO HIGHLY ANTICIPATED BLOODSTRIKE BRUTALISTS
PORTLAND, OR, 05/30/2018 — Image Comics is pleased to reveal a very special Rob Liefeld variant cover to the #23 issue of Liefeld’s highly anticipated BLOODSTRIKE BRUTALISTS arc featuring story and artwork by Michel Fiffe (COPRA). This variant cover introduces an all-new character—The Pouch!

"Since the moment I introduced The Pouch on my social media, the fans have exploded with support and enthusiasm!" said Liefeld. "The truest definition of 'because you demanded it!' The Pouch comes to life on the cover and in an interior story included in Bloodstrike Brutalists 2!”

In BRUTALISTS Part Two, bureaucratic overlords with morbid agendas need love, too. What lengths will they go to? A string of gruesome murders, a deadly disease, and a dark conspiracy; for Bloodstrike, that’s a Tuesday.

BLOODSTRIKE #23 will hit stores on Wednesday, June 27th. The final order cutoff deadline for retailers is Monday, June 4th

  • Is this to poke fun at the version of Captain America who has pouches he never uses for anything?

  • Note also that The Pouch's feet aren't drawn. Yep, it's a Liefeld creation, all right.

  • I think it is more to poke fun at himself, and all of those pouches of the 90s.

  • Yeah, he was known for putting lots of impractical pouches everywhere (including thigh-belt pouches that could not possibly stay on), and also big guns. The Pouch is actually made up of pouches, and has a big gun, which is also made up of pouches. So, yeah, self-deprecatory humor.

Liefeld was also known for his reluctance (or maybe inability) to draw feet, which was referenced in the latest Deadpool movie.

  • Some classic Liefeld:

  • I have never understood the appeal of this artwork.

Bienvenu posted an apt description of the Cap shot on the old board... something about him having his back split open like a shrimp for that angle to work.

  • The woman looks like she fell down the stairs or was hit by a car.

  • That's awesome. Even seeing the name "The Pouch" in the headline couldn't prepare me for the majesty of this creation.
