  • Maybe they are being mind-controled like in that episode of Star Trek?

Seriously, that's a great article. Interesting stuff.
  • It's so hard for me to be on the other side because it's not our intention. There is a reason behind it all. We don't see it that way and strive very hard to have a diverse DCU. I mean, we have green, pink, and blue characters. We have the Great Ten out there and I have counter statistics, but I won't get into that. It's not how we perceived it. We get the same thing about how we treat our female characters. --DC Senior Story Editor Ian Sattler

Green, pink, and blue? That doesn't really count as diversity does it?

And The Great Ten was cancelled...early...
  • In "Archie" #609, he and Val are at the movies and kissing. There's an older man behind them, rolling his eyes. Is it because of the PDA or the interracial aspect of it? If the latter, it's a subtle commentary that there will be those opposed to it. No one in the cast seems perturbed by it. Even the "secret aspect" is revealed to be unneccessary since everyone knows except for Betty (who focuses on Archie) and Veronica (who focuses on herself)! The ending is bittersweet, believeable and potentially life-altering for our teens from Riverdale. Will comics' most enduring "Romantic Triangle" finally be answered or will it collapse with a new member? It's telling that there are no scenes of Val alone with either Betty or Veronica!
  • Dan Parent, the creator behind the Archie-Val story, has said that it will certainly be revisited.
  • I just think it's sad that this is a story.
  • True.
  • ...BTW , the Pussycats are a little older than the Archie gang , no ???

      HS grads , anyway ???????????

  • I think that Archie was supposed to see Val in more serious light than his escapades with Betty and Veronica. A maturing Archie? Who would have thunked it?
  • Perhaps people can change. Archie saw this budding relationship with Val as more than just chasing after the next pretty girl. It surprised him and made him rethink what he wants and what he has. At least in those issues. It doesn't defend his previous behavior but it is a step in the right direction. Or would you rather he just let Val be part of the "Eternal Triangle, now Rectangle"?
  • As he's eternally 17, his flightiness bothers me no more than Betty's or Veronica's.

Or the Silver Age Supergirl, who had more liplocks than Millie the Model.

Or Midge, who has been shown many a time that she would be happy to be rid of Moose.

Or Jughead, who's going to discover that them consarned females make really good sammiches...and do other good things as well.
