'Tis Better to Give than to Receive

Most years, we start a Christmas loot list letting everyone know what wonderful stuff we received. This year, I thought it might be fun to try a change of pace. So what did you give this year? I'll start. Ana and I gave the girls their own Nintendo DS (handheld gaming system) each plus a game, a movie (Tinkerbell for the one, Up for the other) and a bunch of stocking stuffers. I was in charge of the stockings (though we consulted on the big stuff). We gave a calendar featuring pictures of the girls to each of the grandparents except Ana's dad. He prefers coaster pictures that he can leave out on his coffee table. For Ana, I took the girls shopping with me. I was the supervisor and price checker but I let the girls pick out the presents themselves. Z choose a fancy ornament for our white and gold Christmas tree; A picked out some pretty green earrings. I take credit for bringing them to a fancy store. And, you know, for paying.

  • Yeah, but receiving is alot of fun, too! Come tell us what you got!
  • I don't remember everything I got people. I got my cousin two volumes of collected Archie stories from the 40's, and I got her husband a Lemmy Kilmister action figure. Also, I got them two Christmas CD's, some books and some tea candles.
  • My brothe and I gave my parents a small TV with a DVD player for their camper trailer.

We gave my mom a Christmas dish with a mug for tea and cookies, a small salt and pepper shaker that looks like a tea pot and kettle and sit on a small stove, and a cookbook that my work put together and sold with recipes from the employees (the proceeeds went to the local hospice).

We gave my dad two of the new Stuart Woods novels. And for the TV we gave them Lonesome Dove on DVD which they love.

We got my grandma a spinner rack for her K-cups (coffee cups for a Kireug coffee maker), some K-cups, a Bonefish gift card, and a box of chocolate.

I gave my future sister-in-law a candle that had an A on it which is her first initial and black & pink polka dots.

My brother and I don't exchange gifts but we bought stuff to start homebrewing. So that's kind of a Christmas present to ourselves. We typically do stuff like that every year.

We gave my grandpa who is in an Alzhiemer's home now a University of Florida hat.

We haven't exchanged gifts with my Aunt and her family yet but we got my Aunt a planter that looks like a coffee mug, my uncle a Florida Senate mug since he always asks me about my job there and a bag of coffee, and my cousin Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 for his X-Box 360.
  • I fixed breakfast for everyone on Christmas morning: ham, eggs, toast and juice for 14.

I gave Jason a tuner for his guitar, a new set of picks, and a portable video player.

For Melora, it was Doctor Who -- all the Eccleston episodes and the first season of David Tennant.

I gave Mom and Dad a new answering machine.

You'll find out what I got if Ana decides to post to this thread.
  • HA! okay then: I gave Chris two Whedon related items. The soundtrack to Dr. Horrible (he was giddy about this...) and I had to work very hard to keep him from buying it for himself between Thanksgiving and yesterday... and I also got him a Joss Whedon is my Master T-shirt (you can see it if you click on the Whedonverse group).

  • Jeanine put together a food basket of cool Trader Joe stuff for my folks, with cooking sauces, chocolate, bottled water, and I don't remember what else. She got a Chia Herb Garden for my mom, which she loved (shows you what I know: I wasn't sure how it would go over). A bag of fancy nuts for my dad, and a Target gift certificate for my brother Michael, who is living with my folks now. I gave Jeanine a bunch of chocolate for her stocking, and a new hand mixer (ours died just before Christimas). We don't exchange gifts with the rest of my family. My son Stephen is on our "naughty" list this year, as we're still paying a bunch of his bills. But I got him a Jackass: The Movie DVD, a box of assorted sandwich crackers, and a bag of Jalapeno flavored Cheetos for his stocking anyway. He couldn't make the trip with us this year, so this is the first Christmas we've celebrated apart.

Jeanine sent her sister a Chia Herb Garden (she got one for herself, too). Her mom got a John Wayne calendar and a Chia Pet in the shape of a cat.

Check out the Secret Headquarters (my store) website! It's a pretty lame website, but I did it myself, so tough noogies

Listen to WOXY.com, it's the future of rock-n-roll!

Yeah, it was Chia all over the place this year. I was actually thinking about getting Jeanine a Snuggie, too. Might have happened if WalMart carried them.

We have just bought a new house, so decided we wouldn't get big presents for each other this year.

My wife got me a guide to the wildlife in Brisbane - (There's a lot!!! We even had to stop the car to let a Koala bear cross the road one night just around the corner from our house. How cool is that?)

I got my wife the last 2 DVD sets of Battlestar Galactica. She's not normally into these genre things, but loves this show for some reason. She loved the gift and declared that she'd never got a 'geeky' Christmas present before.

I think I got away with it this time because of the novelty!!!

We have 7 very young neices and nephews now, so all the present-buying funds goes on them these days. The grown-ups don't get many presents any more in our family...
