Always Look on the Bright Side of Life

Some things in life are bad
They can really make you mad
Other things just make you swear and curse
When you're chewing on life's gristle
Don't grumble, give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best
And
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the light side of life
If life seems jolly rotten
There's something you've forgotten
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing
When you're feeling in the dumps
Don't be silly chumps
Just purse your lips and whistle, that's the thing
And
Always look on the bright side of life
(Come on)
Always look on the right side of life
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin
Give the audience a grin
Enjoy it, it's your last…
For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word
You must always face the curtain with a bow
Forget about your sin
Give the audience a grin
Enjoy it, it's your last chance anyhow
So always look on the bright side of death
A just before you draw your terminal breath
Life's a piece of shit
When you look at it
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true
You'll see it's all a show
Keep 'em laughin' as you go
Just remember that the last laugh is on you
And
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the right side of life
(C'mon Brian, cheer up)
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
Always look on the bright side of life
I mean, what have you got to lose?
You know, you come from nothing
You're going back to nothing
What have you lost? Nothing
Always look on the right side of life
Nothing will come from nothing, ya know what they say
Cheer up ya old bugga c'mon give us a grin (Always look on the right side of life)
There ya are, see
It's the end of the film
Incidentally this record's available in the foyer (Always look on the right side of life)
Some of us got to live as well, you know
(Always look on the right side of life)
Who do you think pays for all this rubbish
(Always look on the right side of life)
They're not gonna make their money back, you know
I told them, I said to him, Bernie, I said they'll never make their money back
(Always look on the right side of life)

Pure McCartney - 67 tracks covering Paul's musical output from 1970 - 2015. The obvious hits are here but the collection, assembled by Paul, also includes plenty of lesser known material. I like the fact that the songs are not in chronological order. Mixing songs from each decade lends a fresh feel to even the most familiar material.

I have never heard of that collection, but Wikipedia tells me it came out on 2016.

It looks like a good one.

Thanks for cluing me in!

This week's theme: Other diseases

We'll start with DUST PNEUMONY BLUES by Woody Guthrie.

I've got that dust pneumony, pneumony in my lung,

I've got that dust pneumony, pneumony in my lung,

And I'm gonna sing ya this dust pneumony song.

I went to the doctor, and the doctor said, "My son, "

Yes, I went to the doctor and the doctor said, "My son,

You got that dust pneumony and you ain't got long."

Now there ought to be some yodeling in this song,

There ought to be some yodeling in this song,

But I can't yodel for the rattling in my lung.

My good girl sings the dust pneumony blues,

My good girl sings the dust pneumony blues,

She loves me but she's got the dust pneumony too.

If it wasn't for choppin' my ax would turn to rust,

If it wasn't for choppin' my ax would turn to rust,

I can't find a woman in this black old Texas dust.

Down in Oklahoma the wind blows mighty strong,

Down in Oklahoma the wind blows mighty strong,

If you want to get in, mama, just sing a California song.

Down in Texas my gal fainted in the rain,

Down in Texas my gal fainted in the rain,

I throwed a bucket o' dirt in her face just to bring her back again.

Today's ailment: fever. You get a choice.

Peggy Lee

Ted Nugent

I'm picturing what might happen if you tried that on Tracy...

I shudder to think.

ROCKIN' PNEUMONIA & THE BOOGIE WOOGIE FLU

I wanna to jump but I'm afraid I'll fall

I wanna to holler but the joint's too small

Young man rhythm's got a hold of me too

I got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu

Want some other's baby that ain't all

I wanna to kiss her but she's way too tall

Young man rhythm's got a hold of me too

I got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu

I wanna to squeeze her but I'm way too low

I would be runnin' but my feet's too slow

Young man rhythm's got a hold of me too

I got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu

I wanna to squeeze her but I'm way too low

I would be runnin' but my feet's too slow

Young man rhythm's got a hold of me too

I got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu

Baby comin' now I'm hurryin' home

I know she's leavin' cause I'm takin' too long

Young man rhythm's got a hold of me too

I got the rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu

COMFORTABLY NUMB

Hello? Hello? Hello?

Is there anybody in there?

Just nod if you can hear me

Is there anyone at home?

Come on now

I hear you're feeling down

Well I can ease your pain

Get you on your feet again

Relax

I'll need some information first

Just the basic facts

Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain you are receding

A distant ship smoke on the horizon

You are only coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I had a fever

My hands felt just like two balloons

Now I've got that feeling once again

I can't explain you would not understand

This is not how I am

I have become comfortably numb

Okay

Just a little pinprick

There'll be no more, ah

But you may feel a little sick

Can you stand up?

I do believe it's working, good

That'll keep you going through the show

Come on it's time to go

There is no pain you are receding

A distant ship, smoke on the horizon

You are only coming through in waves

Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse

Out of the corner of my eye

I turned to look but it was gone

I cannot put my finger on it now

The child is grown

The dream is gone

I have become comfortably numb

MR. LONELY

If you think you're lonely sheltering at home, just listen to this guy...

Lonely, I’m Mr. Lonely

I have nobody for my own

I am so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely

Wish I had someone to call on the phone

Now I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier

Away from home through no wish of my own

That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely

I wish that I could go back home

Letters, never a letter

I get no letters in the mail

I've been forgotten, yes, forgotten

Oh how I wonder, how is it I failed

Now I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier

Away from home through no wish of my own

That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely

I wish that I could go back home

Living in a Ghost Town- The Rolling Stones

Just started listening to a couple new podcasts by some friends.

First up is Brad Lawrence's SF story, Maxine and the Planets Unknown,an 8-part fiction podcast about a girl raised on a generational starship in the days after it finally lands on its destination. I'm a couple of episodes in, and I really enjoy it.

Second is This is Not a Story About... by Ted Geoghegan. It's a film history podcast where it starts at a certain well-known point -- Walt Disney, Bruce Lee, Bela Legosi -- and veers into something less known, and tangential. The Disney podcast was about the mostly forgotten history (and recent surprising comeback) of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Haven't heard the next two yet, but I'm looking forward to them!
