Hearing TONS of kids at karate camp talking this week about comic books. The theme of karate camp this year was Super-Heroes, so it naturally lent itself, I figured, to talk of super-hero movies and cartoons. No, this morning I heard four or five teenagers, including two girls, in a circle, saying things like, "Hawkeye? I love Kate Bishop." "I have to go with Batwing. He was a child soldier and now he's a police officer and he is my brother!" Discussion of how weird the art was in The Dark Knight Strikes Again. These weren't superficial "I think Iron Man is neat!" comments.

Throughout the week, during such conversations, I heard adults talking about Tony Stark and Steve Rogers--not "Iron Man" and "Captain America".

I love that we live in a world where these things are this well known.

I also remember this morning hearing things about the "breaking of the fourth wall" in Deadpool, the excitement over a movie coming out about Black Panther, and the merits of a character like Damian Wayne (from someone who hadn't realized yet that he was dead). Talk about an awesome thing to hear from teenagers.

I was just listening to the preview podcast for the May 1 episode of The Dennis Miller Show, and Dennis and his producer, Christian Bladt, were discussing the Red Skull and shifted to talking about the Howling Commandos, mentioning Pinky Pinkerton and Dum Dum Dugan by name.

I just cannot understand how this guy could be so stupid as to make a run for a high-profile public office KNOWING this was still out there. This isn't some old, forgotten, buried dirt from the distant past; this is fresh dirt that just reminds people of how stupid he was the last time.

I'll accept armchair psychology -- can somebody explain this?

Well, if you're asking for armchair psychology ...

I think that the fact that he apparently kept up the sexting and lewd photo hobby well after he'd been publicly humiliated is some kind of clue about how his mind works.  Either he's an addictive type (the need for gratification overwhelms all other considerations) or a reckless risk-taker (irrational belief he can beat the odds) or an egotist (I can get away with things because I'm special).  Maybe some of all of that.

So his desire for power/profile overwhelms his common sense and/or risking new disclosures is part of the allure of running and/or he just plain believed that he's such an attractive candidate that the voters would forgive him if anything new came out.

I was listening to a radio interview today with Dan Cortese (from MTV Sports  and that one episode of Seinfeld) and he slipped in about 4 or 5 Usual Suspects references that the hosts didn't catch. I didn't know he had that kind of subtle humor in him.

With age comes wit and wisdom. Hard to imagine that he's still a few years older than me, because I still imagine him being about 25.

I was telling the beautiful pharmacist *sigh* at work that I was going to see Rifftrax Live next Thursday by explaining that they were comedians who had a show called  MYSTERY SCIENCE THEARTRE 3000 and she knew about it!
