I read recently the first two issues of Amazing X-men by Jason Aaron. This is the return of Nightcrawler. However, Kurt's not back yet.
The story starts in heaven with Kurt mopping about his days when he was alive. Then there's an attack on heaven by Kurt's father, Azazel. Next we go to the Jean Grey School of Gifted Youngsters where Firestar is starting her first day as headmaster. Chaos, as you can imagine ensues. The BAMFS have started causing trouble again. This time it appears they've created a portal in the basement. Turns out there are supposedly from the Heaven realm and there's some nasty red BAMFS as well. Anyways Wolverine, Northstar, Storm and Firestar are sent through the portal. I believe Beast is left behind. Northstar & Wolverine end up on a pirate ship while the others are in Hell.
Wolverine gets the feeling his blue buddy may behind this but hasn't seen him yet.
Seems Azazel is attempting to take over Heaven and claim the souls there for his own. We do not see Kurt much but it is alluded to that he is the resistance. We also get a ghostly presence of Xavier as well.
Kurt is narrating this story. What's interesting is he needs the X-men to help him but he does not expect to return to the land of the living. We'll see what transpires.
So far this is a fun start. There's a lot of action and the X-men are truly out of there element. The art by Ed McGinnis is really good in this as well. Plus it's good to see Kurt back in swashbuckler mode.
Has anyone else read this series yet?

I avoided this, associating artist Ed McGinnis with Jeph Loeb. I haven't read too much of Aaron's work, but I've heard lots of good things. Does this continue out of the Wolverine and the X-Men series Aaron writes, or is it on its own?
