THE CAPTAIN'S COMMENTS
Marvel keeps canceling and rebooting its titles in a seemingly meaningless fashion. That's pretty irritating for long-time fans, completists and serious collectors. But don't let that stop you from enjoying two first issues this week.
The first is a known quantity: Daredevil #1. This new Daredevil series is by exactly the same creators as the last Daredevil book, writer Mark Waid and artist Chris Samnee. And that book was wildly popular with both critics and readers, so this book is likely to be pretty good, too!
What Waid did on the last iteration of Daredevil is to, essentially, drop everything about the character introduced by Frank Miller. Long-time fans will remember that Daredevil was a relatively light-hearted book until Miller came along and made the book more and more grim and depressing with characters like Kingpin, Bullseye, Stick and Elektra. Some of them had previously existed, but Miller used them to make the series a brutal, downbeat crime noir. Which it has remained ever since.
And it wasn't until Waid that I realized how hard it truly was to read Daredevil without anti-depressants. But the new Daredevil was like a blazing ray of sunshine cutting through a gloomy, overcast sky, instantly bringing warmth, color and joy back to the strip. And, wow, did it feel good!
Why the new Daredevil #1? Well, only Marvel can say for sure, but I'd guess it's because of a change in venue for Murdock. The previous series ended with a shock -- well, that's what the solicits say, I haven't read it yet -- and Matt Murdock is moving back to San Francisco. In between the two print series Marvel is publishing an e-comic under the Infnite Comics line, Daredevil: Road Warrior, which will likely see print before too long.
And I say Murdock is moving BACK to San Francisco, because he used to live there. Long-time fans will remember -- possibly fondly -- that Daredevil and Black Widow moved there in 1972, with the Widow even getting logo billing for a couple of years. It wasn't an especially memorable couple of years, but comics trivia master Waid surely remembers, so this move cannot possibly be random.
Meanwhile, the other first issue this week really is a fresh start. Not only does it resurrect a concept that has long lain fallow, but it does so with an entirely new spin.
All-New Ghost Rider #1 lives up to its billing, by introducing a new alter ego for the Spirit of Vengeance, Robbie Reyes, a Hispanic teen from the barrios of East L.A. And Ghost Rider is changing as well; he's ditching his trademark motorcycle for rides more appropriate for L.A., like muscle cars and the like. All of them a-flame, of course, which is actually a pretty cool visual.
I'm not familiar with the creative team on All-New Ghost Rider -- writer Felipe Smith and artist Tradd Moore -- but I like the concept and the covers are ginchy. I suppose it's only a matter of time before boring old Johnny Blaze shows up, but until then I plan to enjoy a Ghost Rider like I've never seen before!

THE GOLDEN AGE OF RIVERDALE!
Dark Horse Comics and Archie Comics team up once again to bring you over 200 pages of sidesplitting high jinks from the Golden Age of Archie! The gang’s all here: “typical teenager” Archie Andrews, his best pal Jughead, his eternal rival Reggie and his lovely girlfriends Betty and Veronica -- and when these zany teens get together, the fun just never stops! Put some Pep in your step and have a laugh with Archie! Collecting every Archie appearance from Archie Comics #29-31, Pep Comics #65-67, and Laugh Comics #25-26!
• Foreword by multiple Eisner Award–winning creator Jill Thompson (Beasts of Burden)!
• Gorgeous Golden Age art by Bill Vigoda and Irv Novick!
These Archives are marching along at an impressive clip, and it won't be long before people who are buying this series (like me) will be able to say something nearly impossible not so long ago, that they've read every Archie story from the 1940s!
Cocommitant with that is reaching that Dark Hole of my comics collection, the 1950s. That will slow the Archives a bit, since Archie expanded in the '50s, not only to new ongoing series like Jughead (which actually began in 1949), but also one-shots like Jughead's Folly (1957, an Elvis parody). I'm looking forward to seeing these legendary books for the first time, so thank you Dark Horse, and keep up the good work!

Next month, Angel & Faith returns!
I never watched Buffy when it was on (insert expressions of ridicule and disbelief here), but I did enjoy the comic book for a time. I haven't followed it since it began this new direction, "continuing" the TV show as Season 8, Season 9 and now Season 10. (I did collect through the early issues of Season 8, but not having watched the show, I didn't have any idea what was going on. Like, who is Dawn, and why was she a giant? How and when did Xander lose an eye? Why was there an army of Slayers? Where was the rest of the Scooby gang? I got tired of holding these questions in abeyance, and eased my cognitive dissonance by simply giving up the book.)
All that being said, how are these books, TV Buffy fans? Do they succeed in capturing the show's spirit? Do you get the same enjoyment? I can't tell, so you'll have to tell me.

“I’ve missed these characters dearly, and I’m bringing them back with a vengeance.” -- Scott Snyder
The Eisner Award-winning, critically acclaimed series is back! #1 New York Times best-selling writer Scott Snyder (BATMAN, SUPERMAN UNCHAINED, THE WAKE) and acclaimed artist Rafael Albuquerque (ANIMAL MAN) bring their bloodsoaked opus into the 1960s!
The story so far ...
Pearl Jones is a new kind of vampire, one of an American breed that can walk in the sun and has rattlesnake fangs. She’s beautiful and powerful -- and she’s hiding from a tragic past …
Skinner Sweet is an American vamp too -- the kind you love to hate. He’s good when he wants to be, but most of the time he’s downright bad. He’s Pearl’s maker, but he’s off in Mexico with an agenda of his own …
Will their two stories collide, or are they separated forever? And who is this new villain on the horizon, someone bloodier and more evil than anything seen in AMERICAN VAMPIRE before? Who is THE GRAY TRADER and what does his arrival mean for Skinner and Pearl?
Whether you’re already a fan or interested in checking out this series, the extra-sized AMERICAN VAMPIRE: SECOND CYCLE #1 is the perfect jumping-on point!
I am so looking forward to this.
Also, it bears mention that this cover reflects the first cover, but indicating the changes in lead character Pearl Jones. On the first cover, the bottom third was Pearl in an identical position as above, only in 1920s clothing and blood dripping from fang marks on her neck. Here, the blood is dripping from her mouth -- uh oh -- and she has, ironically, a "peace" button on a 1960s jacket.

This new, expanded edition of the classic Batman title collects BATGIRL #24, 27, BATMAN #599-602, BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHTS #25-28, BATMAN: THE 10-CENT ADVENTURE #1, BIRDS OF PREY #39, 40-41, 43, DETECTIVE COMICS #766-767, NIGHTWING #65-66, 68-69 and ROBIN #98-99.
What I remember from this storyline is that A) it was kinda implausible that Batman could be so easily framed, and B) Batman/Bruce was an unlikeable jerk throughout, especially to Dick (whom he kept insulting for no reason) and Sasha Bordeaux (whom he left in jail for no reason, after she got arrested for protecting his secret identity). Not only should Bruce have found a way to spring her because she knew his identity -- I mean, duh, she gets out if she blabs -- but also because he was sleeping with her at the time and because it's simply the decent thing to do. Leaving her in the pokey wasn't just stupid and unheroic, it was despicable. Eventually Sasha got out of jail, but only by becoming a reluctant agent of Checkmate. And somewhere along the way she lost an eye! Thanks for nothing, Bruce.
I may be misremembering a detail here or there, but the upshot is that I didn't think this was a very good story, despite a promising start, and I don't recommend it.

In these moody 1990s tales from BATMAN #515-525, 527-532 and 535-536, Batman emerges from the shadows to face foes including Killer Croc, The Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Two-Face and more. Plus, don’t miss guest-appearances by Nightwing, Robin, Deadman and Swamp Thing.
Kelley Jones is the Bat-artist that broke me of the habit of thinking Batman should always look like he was drawn by Neal Adams or Jim Aparo. Now I accept Batmen drawn in all kinds of eccentric ways, and I have more fun as a result. Thanks, Kelley -- even if under you pencil Batman's ears grew and shrank alarmingly through every story!

In these stories from GREEN ARROW #17-24, a mysterious villain called Komodo knows Oliver Queens’s secrets and uses them to rob Oliver of all his wealth and his company. Now on the run from this seemingly unstoppable force, Ollie finds himself in a mystery involving his father and the island where he first became Green Arrow!
Everything will change for the Emerald Archer in this new beginning for the character.
GREEN ARROW VOLUME 4: THE KILL MACHINE collects the beginning of award-winning writer Jeff Lemire and artist Andrea Sorrentino's run on the series which reinvents the Green Arrow mythos.
Taking notes from The CW's hit television show Arrow, Lemire creates the most compelling Oliver Queen yet. When Green Arrow's world is changed forever, he has to pull himself together and face the greatest enemy he never knew he had: Komodo. With the help of his new allies, will he finally discover the truth about himself and build himself, piece by piece, into the Green Arrow that he needs to be?
Lemire says that it ".. .really will be like a first issue, and a great new start, and a really bold new direction. Green Arrow has the potential to be an A-List character and an A-List DC title." He goes on to say "I thought it was my chance to do a really big crime noir superhero story, and really create this big mythology behind Oliver Queen's past and his destiny and the island and all this stuff. It became this huge, sprawling mythology that I'm building. And it's hopefully something that will really hook readers."
Oliver Queen is getting a lot of attention right now and GREEN ARROW VOLUME 4: THE KILL MACHINE is a great place to jump on and see why! This volume of the New 52 series is a brand new beginning for Oliver Queen, as the series is taken in a bold new direction with an incredible creative team! Award-winning writer Jeff Lemire (ANIMAL MAN and SWEET TOOTH) and artist Andrea Sorrentino (I, VAMPIRE) unite to bring you the next chapter for Green Arrow. Pick up this volume and discover why it's a great time to be a Green Arrow fan.
"Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino hit the bullseye perfectly with GREEN ARROW. Sharply written and featuring beautiful artwork, this is another hidden gem in the New 52 crown." -- CraveOnline
"One of the top superhero reads." -- The Onion/AV Club
"So, great writing, awesome artwork, fun premise and looks of cool action? Yep, GREEN ARROW's got it all." -- IGN
OK, now this is more like it! Seriously, I was turned off by the New 52 Green Arrow with the first issue, but most of the things I hated about it Lemire addressed and corrected in this storyline. I'm only about 2/3 of the way through this book, but I heartily recommend it.

ARTFUL DAGGERS: FIFTY YEARS LATER (TPB)
Art: ANDREW LOSQ
TPB • FC • $19.99 • 152 pages
With smash hits like Edison Rex and Amelia Cole, MonkeyBrain Comics and IDW Publishing have established a new precedent for comics moving from digital to print. After success being serialized digitally, these great titles get handsome collections, meant for the traditional comic and book markets. The next title to find a whole new audience in print will be Artful Daggers: Fifty Years Later, scheduled to hit shelves in March 2014.
Created by Sean E. Williams (Fairest), Adam P. Knave (Amelia Cole) and Andrew Losq, with lettering by Frank Cvetkovic (Molly Danger), Artful Daggers is a story of greed, betrayal and ultimately, corruption. Fifty years after a time-traveler brings science and technology to the medieval ages, corporations have replaced kingdoms, and the future teeters on a bleak precipice. Agents and assassins, hired for their specialties by the rivaling companies, stem the flow of information with the flow of blood. But the current system can't hold, and the balance of power is shifting.
"We all had a blast making this first ARTFUL DAGGERS arc, a spin-off of Mark Twain's A CONNECTICUT YANKEE IN KING ARTHUR'S COURT, and have been blown away by the enthusiasm of digital readers,” Williams said. “Partnering with IDW for the print collected means a whole new set of readers can discover Andrew's astounding art and explore this alternate universe for the first time, with the lush attention to detail that IDW brings to its books."
The relationship between digital and print comics moves into the future, IDW and MonkeyBrain remain at the forefront, releasing quality title after quality title, and Artful Daggers is no exception!

“You don't need to be a history buff or comic book fan to love my book, The Dreamer,” say creator Lora Innes. “The reason the book resonates with readers is it's filled with romance, action and adventure that anyone can relate to. The fact that much of this actually happened is only backdrop to the story, but it makes it much richer.”
The Dreamer has been nominated for numerous Harvey Awards and is a fan-favorite among comic book and mainstream readers alike. The Dreamer Volume 1 and Volume 2 are also available in both print and digital formats. Volume 4 in the series is planned for 2016.
What others have said about The Dreamer:
“There is not a single misstep in the entire book. To say I’m hooked is a huge understatement. I’m buying this volume, the previous volume and will preorder the next volume.” -- FirstComicNews.com
“That this beautiful work is paired to a pitch-perfect story at once epic and intimate, both serious and playful, that straddles a teenage present and our nation’s most dramatic past is a testament to a creativity that knows no bounds.” -- Michael Frost Beckner, producer of Spy Games
“The best books in life are the one you’re surprised by -- the ones where you see the cover and think, “Huh. This looks cool.” … And then you don’t come up for air until you’ve read all the way through to the end. That’s what happened with Lora Innes’s The Dreamer.” -- Fantasy Magazine

“KILLING GAME,” Part Three
With the fallout of the sorority party piling up all around her, will Zoey finally give in to her urges and start planning for murder?
Written and drawn by mouth by disabled creator Larime Taylor.
For four issues I've been moving this title where it belongs alphabetically, under "V" for "Voice," since you're not supposed to consider indefinite articles when organizing titles alphabetically. But Image, which put titles beginning with "the" in their proper place, insists that this book begins with an "A." OK, FINE! I'm tired of moving it!
Dynamite does the same thing with The Lone Ranger. Most books beginning with "the" they ignore the article, but they always put Lone Ranger under "T" instead of "L."
Which, of course, drives me to a murderous rage.
Now what were we talking about again?

"Someone want to run all that by me again? In English?"
Praise for THE FUSE:
"Space cops investigating space murders is the sort of synopsis that gets my attention, and so far Johnston and Greenwood appear to have the world-building skills and noir chops to back it up. ... If you're a fan of detective stories and sci-fi that's more gritty than glossy, it's worth a look." -- Laura Hudson, WIRED
"THE FUSE thrusts us immediately into a future that seems grimy rather than shiny, and cold rather than optimistic, and it's an impeccable setting for a neo-noir. ... A must-read. 5/5" -- Jen Aprahamian, Comic Vine
"This is "lived-in" science fiction that develops itself slowly, through accumulation rather than explanation. ... By Issue #5 The Fuse will be what everyone's talking about. Why not get a head start? 4/5" -- Marykate Jasper, Comic Book Resources

Forever’s investigation into the thefts of Carlyle materiel lead to an alarming discovery and a new insight into the Freemen Resistance. The Barrets continue making their way to Denver, and pay a terrible toll.
I have yet to read the trade of this that I received some time ago. I keep finding other things I'd rather read first. That's not really fair, is it? I promise I'll have it read by the time Lazarus #8 comes out. (Given the frequent delays on this book, I've got plenty of time!)

Art: NIKO HENRICHON
256 PAGES / FC / M / $29.99
From acclaimed filmmaker DARREN ARONOFSKY (Black Swan, The Wrestler) and artist NIKO HENRICHON (Pride of Baghdad), NOAH is a fresh take on the biblical epic for the 21st Century. A fantastical world is about to be destroyed and one man is chosen to start a new one. As wicked forces try to take his Ark, Noah must hold his family together while they watch the annihilation of all they know. Infusing the Book of Genesis with fantasy and science fiction, NOAH both reinvents the elements of the Flood story everyone knows and simultaneously takes the reader beyond them and into the unexpected.
The graphic novel is based on the first draft of the screenplay for the feature film, Noah. Noah, directed by Aronofsky, and starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Emma Watson, and Anthony Hopkins, hits theaters in March 2014.
“It has been a great thrill to see an artist of Niko’s caliber interpret the Noah screenplay through his own vision,” said Aronofsky. “The results are lavish. This take on the story is from the original screenplay Ari and I wrote, before we began the long process of shaping the story for the big screen. So it is a slightly different take on the material. This book, not merely a movie companion piece, will hopefully give readers a rare insight into the creative process.”
This is Henrichon’s first major work since he teamed up with Brian K. Vaughan to create the critically acclaimed Pride of Baghdad. His signature style of sweeping, majestic panoramas lend an otherworldly quality to the pre-Flood world’s environment.
"Niko Henrichon is one of the greatest living artists of graphic novels, and a book from him of this scope is a once-in-a-decade experience. I can't wait for Darren Aronofsky's film, but this NOAH is very much its own story, one whose beauty would be just about impossible to translate to any medium but comics." -- Brian K. Vaughan (SAGA, Pride of Baghdad, Y: The Last Man)
A ten-page preview of NOAH is on Image Comics’ website.
All right, full disclosure: I've been peeved at the story of Noah ever since I first read The Epic of Gilgamesh and found out that Noah's story was cribbed from half a dozen flood legends from earlier times in other lands. I don't care if it is The Bible, it's still plagiarism to me!
That being said, I'll probably get this book for the Henrichon art.

“A break-out hit … Mischievous, vulgar, and gloriously inventive.” -- Douglas Wolk, TIME Magazine
“This is a completely addictive, human story that will leave readers desperately awaiting the next volume.” -- Publishers Weekly
“One thing I found myself quickly appreciating is that Vaughan isn't playing a 'good side/bad side' game here. Neither race comes across as heroes or villains here; they're both clearly seeing themselves as the good ones of course, but both sides make choices that put them in the 'to be feared' camp.” -- Greg McElhatton, Comic Book Resources
“It is such a refreshing delight to see something come along that is unapologetically bold. That is fearless in the choices it makes. That has the confidence of a writer that knows exactly what he’s doing, and entices you to come along with him.” -- Kelly Thompson, LitReactor
“Saga #1 deftly establishes entire cultures and presents a wide-ranging cast of characters who we understand almost instantly. This is more settled, self-assured work from Vaughan, but it is anything but bland. Instead, it’s prickly and precise, and perhaps a bit unsettling, because it’s somehow completely familiar and yet entirely new. And that discordancy helps to power its narrative.” -- Tim Callahan, Tor.com
“Brian K. Vaughan has certainly given Saga legs, balancing the tense threatening bad guy jerk-attack issues with familial drama.” -- Andy Hunsaker, Crave Online

Despite my antipathy for the first issue, I've re-adjusted my attitude and ordered the first trade. I want to like this series, but I'm not sure I will.

Art/Cover: PAUL MAYBURY
MARCH 19 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $2.99
An epic fantasy in the tradition of Game of Thrones.
In a world where gods, demons and magic have slipped into myth, SOVEREIGN tells the story of masked undertakers facing the undead with swords while civil wars threaten the delicate balance between colliding cultures. But out of the ashes of history rises a new threat and the promise that magic has not yet faded into mere memory.
Chris Roberson (Edison Rex, iZombie) joins artist Paul Maybury (POPGUN, Catalyst Comix) to bring to life a multi-layered series featuring Tolkien-esque story of war, magic and the humanity that co-exists in both in SOVEREIGN #1.
SOVEREIGN is a much different take on the classic high fantasy genre. “So many of the fantasy stories I encountered growing up were set in worlds that were largely modeled on medieval Europe, in one way or another. Lots of white folks in feudal societies, castles and kings, that kind of thing. And I love a lot of those, but I thought it would be more interesting for me personally to look to other cultures for inspiration,” said Roberson. “Sovereign is set in a world in which there are a number of cultures in the mix, and all kinds of ethnicities and types, and the drama comes as much from the cultural interactions as it does from the monsters invading from another dimension.”
Roberson explained that part of the magic behind creating a powerful fantasy series is finding the right team. “Paul’s was the first name that occurred to me when I started thinking about what artist would be a good fit for the story, and the work that he’s done on the book so far suggests that I was right on the money,” said Roberson. “It looks amazing, and isn’t quite like anything else out there.”
"An epic fantasy in the tradition of Game of Thrones ..." As I joked last month, you can actually read Game of Thrones, or watch it on TV, or read the comics adaptaions, so, um, it's not like there's a lot of pent-up demand. Oh well, I guess copywriters have to write something!
"In a world where gods, demons and magic have slipped into myth ..." Wait, isn't that OUR world? I guess they mean it happened before any Industrial Revolution, in like Bronze Age times. Or something.
I don't mean to be so snarky, because I generally enjoy Roberson's work. But, honestly, if you set 'em up, I have to knock 'em down.

“ENGINES OF VENGEANCE” PART 1
A new legend is born on the streets of Los Angeles in ALL-NEW GHOST RIDER #1 – the high-octane new series from writer Felipe Smith and artist Tradd Moore! All-New Ghost Rider #1 will continue the exciting wave of All-New Marvel NOW! series with a brand new & sensational take on the Spirit of Vengeance!
A high speed street race in East L.A. leads a young man down the fast and furious road of destiny. Amid an East Los Angeles neighborhood full of gang violence and drug trafficking, 18-year old Robbie Reyes explodes onto the scene as the newest Ghost Rider!
"In Robbie Reyes, Felipe Smith and Tradd Moore have created one of the most complex and likable characters to be granted great power -- and a great ride! -- and learn the great responsibility that comes with both," says Editor In Chief Axel Alonso. "Reyes comes from a very different zip code than Peter Parker, but his story is universal."
“His vehicle of choice, the automobile, very clearly sets him apart visually,” says series writer Felipe Smith in an interview with Marvel.com “In comparison to his vengeance seeking predecessors, he’s very young and inexperienced in most aspects of life; but as a the product of a harsh inner city upbringing, Robbie’s street smarts, overall distrust for most people and clear contempt for his violent surroundings make him the perfect host for a Spirit of Vengeance.”
But motorcycles and cars were just the beginning! Robbie has the ability to turn any vehicle into a flaming engine of retribution. And he’ll need it. War is brewing in the criminal underworld. But crime and corruption have a new enemy. With the pedal to the metal, Marvel’s newest Ghost Rider puts vengeance into overdrive!

• The plans are drawn, the task is clear -- to save their ally NAMOR, the remaining INVADERS must live up to their name and take the fight to Hala, the Kree homeworld!
• But his how does AARKUS, THE ORIGINAL VISION, figure into this strategy? And how will the WINTER SOLDIER track him down in the first place?
• Plus, Namor in battle with Tanalth and her elite Pursuer Corps!
• And a guest star no one will expect -- especially not the Invaders themselves!
I see the Golden Age Vision is guest starring, which is a nice surprise. He's one of the few GA heroes with actual super-powers and a genuinely novel background -- much could be done with him now that Golden Age creators didn't think of or didn't dare do. Most GA characters were plain vanilla masked brawlers, which is why I don't mind upgrades like what was done with Blazing Skull back in the last Invaders series. (Or was it the one before that?) Anyway, Aarkus doesn't need retooling, just re-imagining.

This was a pretty good run of Captain America. Englehart pushed the title a little -- the '50s Cap story was a pretty audacious for the time -- and S. Buscema was solid, if not very flashy. Of course, this was the run that killed off Sharon Carter the first time, which seemed pretty unnecessary to me then, as it does now. Or was it the second time? She disappeared after the Lee-Kirby run for a while, but I don't remember why.

I never really thought about it before, but I finally figured out why the Sif-Beta Ray Bill quasi-romance bugged me back in the day. It's his face. He looks so much like a horse that subconsciously it was too close to bestiality for me. I mean, I guess it's not technically bestiality if the horse is sentient, but still. Too weird.
What's that got to do with Nova? Nothing, really, except that Bill is currently a supporting character there.

A riotous and raunchy no-holds barred spy romp featuring beautiful women, explosive gunplay, naked catfights, Hitler, death from above and more naked women! Because Cannon first appeared in the U.S. military newspaper Overseas Weekly in the 1960s, it was not subject to the usual editorial censorship and legendary artist Wallace Wood took full advantage. Drawing from from newly unearthed source material, Fantagraphics Books will be producing the biggest, baddest, best-looking collection of Cannon, ever!
I seem to have this vague memory of having seen or read Cannon in the Long Before Time, and not having a very high opinion of the story -- that it was just a pastiche of tough-guy cliches that were old when the world was young. Of course, it's Wally Wood art, so what does the story matter? I may have to pick up a copy just to remind myself why I was unimpressed with Cannon back in the day.

From The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!
Sixteen years ago, notorious science-brigand Janni Nemo journeyed into the frozen reaches of Antarctica to resolve her father's weighty legacy in a storm of madness and loss, barely escaping with her Nautilus and her life.
Now it is 1941, and with her daughter strategically married into the family of aerial warlord Jean Robur, Janni's raiders have only limited contact with the military might of the clownish German-Tomanian dictator Adenoid Hynkel. But when the pirate queen learns that her loved ones are held hostage in the nightmarish Berlin, she has no choice save to intervene directly, travelling with her ageing lover Broad Arrow Jack into the belly of the beastly metropolis. Within that alienated city await monsters, criminals and legends, including the remaining vestiges of Germany’s notorious ‘Twilight Heroes’, a dark Teutonic counterpart to Mina Murray’s League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. And waiting at the far end of this gauntlet of alarming adversaries there is something much, much worse.
Continuing in the thrilling tradition of Heart of Ice, Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill rampage through twentieth-century culture in a blazing new adventure, set in a city of totalitarian shadows and mechanical nightmares. Cultures clash and lives are lost in the explosive collision of four unforgettable women, lost in the black and bloody alleyways where thrive THE ROSES OF BERLIN.
When Alan Moore & Kevin O'Neill followed up their League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Century trilogy with 2013's spinoff Nemo: Heart of Ice, critics hailed it as a return to form, "a throwback to the high adventure of the initial series," and a "late-career masterpiece, with a chiseled veneer of cracked adventure on the surface and a bubbling enthusiasm for the magic of storytelling welling up inside."
Now saddle up your submarines and study up on your silent films, because the new NEMO is now available for pre-order! Moore & O'Neill rampage through twentieth-century culture in a blazing new adventure, set in a city of totalitarian shadows and mechanical nightmares. Cultures clash and lives are lost in the explosive collision of four unforgettable women, lost in the black and bloody alleyways where thrive THE ROSES OF BERLIN.
I decided after Moore left DC that I'd collect his League comics in collected form, but I have lost track. Has the first story from Top Shelf been entirely collected? Is there a collection coming with these one-shots? The more I read the Amazon descriptions the confused-er I get.

The owner, a well-known polemicist Ivan Grubb, takes to his blog to express his outrage, spinning the story to fit happily with his own narrative. When Ivan and Chris relate the event to their children, they are surprised and confused by the strength of feeling their reactions provoke. The Park is a delicate examination of how anger, repression, and powerlessness can overwhelm even the most logical and well-intentioned person amid the confusion of the modern world.

That's how much I am Not A Roger Moore Fan -- he taints stuff I haven't even seen him in!
