Creating speech/thought bubbles

Is there a program (or online utility) that will simply create a basic bubble around the text you type in and then allow you to save it as a BMP or GIF so you can drop it on top of a picture? This seems like the simplest thing in the world but I've spent HOURS online and can't find anything. There are several sites that will add custom bubbles to photos for you, but they all mangle the photo in some way (usually by forcing you to resize it) and won't work for me.

As it is, it took me three hours to draw the bubbles in PS and they still look awful.

I have used Comic life in the past for lots projects...I found it easy to work with...they have a 30 day trial...http://plasq.com/comiclife/
