DC Universe Presents is part of the new 52 and explores some of the lesser known characters of DC. First up, Deadman!
This explores Deadman's origin in about 5 pages or less. It gets into his mission of redeemption. His origin is more or less in flashback because when we get to the main story it appears he's been in this gig for a while. The focus looks like Deadman is going to be getting into a conflict with the deity, Rama, who set him on this course in the first place.
The story has a Quantum Leap vibe with Boston helping people he's drawn to. At first he said it was straightforward, now the people he's being led to, it's not so easy. He also has a lot of reflection of what he's doing, because in his other life he wasn't a great guy. Actually he was a jerk.
I liked it, a lot. I got to like the character during Brightest Day. Even before that I liked the version of him presented in Kingdom Come. We get a lot of insight into him. From what little I know, there's not too much different with this version than with other versions I've seen.
The art is also fantastic. The characters look good and the coloring is great as well.
My only complaint was that there was a little too much exposition in this. There was a lot of explaining when we didn't need it. Now for a first issue and wanting to get new readers involved, I understand. Hopefully that'll slack off a bit. Of course this is about a ghost, so who else is he going to talk to?
If you are a fan of Deadman, check this out. If you're not, check it out anyways. I don't think you'll be disapointed.
I'm looking forward to seeing who is next afer this arc with Deadman is over.
