Diamond Announces Top Products For October 2012
(BALTIMORE, MD) — (November 9, 2012) —In the aftermath of Avengers Vs. X-Men, Captain America forms a new team comprised of Avengers and X-Men in Rick Remender and John Cassaday's Uncanny Avengers #1 from Marvel Comics, the best-selling comic book to specialty retailers in October 2012, according to information provided by Diamond Comic Distributors, the world's largest distributor of comics, graphic novels, and pop culture merchandise.
Marvel Comics was October’s leading publisher in both Retail Dollars and Unit Market Share, leading DC Entertainment 35.14% to 31.51% in dollars and 39.54% to 34.40% in units.
Clark Kent struggles to establish himself in Metropolis, both as a reporter and as a hero, in October's best selling graphic novel, DC Comics' Superman: Earth One Volume 2, the sequel to J. Michael Straczynski and Shane Davis' best-selling Superman: Earth One graphic novel.
With his shield at the ready, Captain America leaps into action for Bowen Designs' Captain America Action Statue, the best-selling toy product to comic book specialty retailers in October.
Hasbro’s Risk Legacy, an update of the venerable board game Risk with a gameplay mechanic that spans multiple games, returned to the top of the sales charts in October as the month’s best-selling games product to comic book specialty retailers.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.
Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 comic book specialty shops located in North America and around the world. The account base includes brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, Internet merchants, and other specialty stores.
Unit and dollars sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable.
Please note that comics marked with an asterisk have had their reported quantities reduced due to retailer returnability, and thus may rank lower on the charts than their actual sales would reflect.
