  • I was just thinking the other day how implausible the old Super-Villain Team-Up title would be now, because Doom has burned all his bridges even with the bad guys of the Marvel Universe. There isn't one, from MODOK to Magneto, that he hasn't betrayed and doesn't want him dead. Even the Red Skull must lie awake nights thinking of ways to kill him. I wonder if they'll make any hay in this series with Magneto and Doom in the same room, assuming Emperor Doom is in continuity. And what about Sub-Mariner, also on Utopia? He'd as soon gut Doom as look at him.

As to the trend this team-up brings into high relief -- super-villains joining major super-teams -- it's something I've felt uncomfortable with ever since Emma Frost and Cyclops hooked up. (In this very preview, she jokes about men she's killed.) I'm surprised there wasn't a "schism" when Magneto joined the X-Men -- why on Earth would Wolverine put up with that after the "Fatal Attractions" storyline? Which means that whatever does cause the X-schism will be that much less plausible and story-driven.

So, when does Galactus join the Avengers? Just curious.
