Alan Tudyk Covers the Whole ‘Spectrum’ of Free Comic Book Day Details in a New Video
(BALTIMORE, MD) – (January 22, 2016)- With slightly more than 100 days left until Free Comic Book Day 2016, it’s time for comic fans to start planning how they will be spending the first Saturday in May. Thankfully, actor Alan Tudyk has provided a video with information to get people excited about this 15th annual nationwide event!
Tudyk, perhaps best known for his role as Hoban 'Wash' Washburne in the cult sci-fi Western series Firefly, has teamed up with co-star Nathan Fillion to present the first Spectrum comic from their highly successful webseries, Con Man! Tudyk will pen with comic with novelist/producer PJ Haarsma (The Softwire Series) and artist Sarah Stone (Transformers).
Fans can learn more about the title, as well as general information about Free Comic Book Day, in a new video and interview starring Tudyk on the Free Comic Book Day website and Facebook page:
You can get your own copy of Con Man’s Spectrum FCBD 2016 Edition and 49 other titles for free (absolutely free, for real!) at select comic shops nationwide only on May 7th.

ALAN TUDYK AND NATHAN FILLION LAUNCH “SPECTRUM” COMIC BOOK SERIES WITH FREE FIRST ISSUE
Web Series “Con Man” Spinoff Debuts on Free Comic Book Day
Los Angeles, CA — When Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion crowd-funded their hit web series Con Man last April, the sci-fi fan-favorite actors struck a chord: a 735 percent-funded campaign at $3.2M that quickly became the largest crowd-funded web series in history. Now, the record-breaking duo are lending this magic to a comic book series. Spectrum, based on the show-within-a-show featured in Con Man, debuts on Free Comic Book Day next May at comic book stores nationwide.
Con Man, which starred Fillion (Firefly, Castle) and Tudyk (Firefly, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as actors from a canceled cult sci-fi show, was a comedic look at the wild world of fandom and conventions. Spectrum will tell the story that launched their careers. In the comic, a vicious attack from an alien invading force devastates the globe, but the prophetic dreams of Captain James Raaker warn that the suffering has just started. Humanity’s last hope is escape in an untested spaceship built by a madman.
“In the world of Con Man, Spectrum has given my character Wray Nerely a huge fan following,” Tudyk said. “A comic book is the best way to tell the story that ignited that fandom. It’s the serious sci-fi story, inside the comedic story, told inside a comic book that is sold inside comic book stores. Every good Con Man needs a comic.”
The four-issue series from Automatic Publishing will be written by Tudyk and novelist/producer PJ Haarsma (The Softwire Series) with artwork by Sarah Stone (Transformers) and overseen by Shel Dorf Award-winning editor Shannon Eric Denton. The Free Comic Book Day offering is not a sampler or a preview, but the actual first issue of the series.
The first season of Con Man is now available on Vimeo, and centers on Wray Nerely (Tudyk), who has struggled to find his big break following the untimely cancellation of Spectrum, while his friend Jack Moore (Fillion) has become a major celebrity. Jack enjoys the life of an A-lister while Wray tours the sci-fi circuit as a guest of conventions, comic book stores and pop culture events. The show explores the crazy (and real) behind-the-scenes antics in the world of fandom.

IDW PUBLISHING
Rom the Space Knight Makes Triumphant Return to Comics!
IDW and Hasbro Proudly Present the Return of ROM on Free Comic Book Day 2016
San Diego, CA (December 10, 2015) – Rom the Space Knight began life as one of the first LED-driven action figures in the late 1970s, then went on to much more acclaim as a comic book hero. Now, removed from comics for over three decades, the character is being given new life in Rom the Space Knight, an all-new comic book series from IDW Publishing.
Rom the Space Knight #0 will make its debut on the first Saturday in May as IDW’s “Gold” offering for Free Comic Book Day. The annual FCBD event sees thousands upon thousands of comics from all publishers given away for free at participating comic shops. The comic will be co-written by IDW Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall and acclaimed comic-book/TV writer Christos Gage. Art on Rom #0 will be handled by David Messina, who will also be sharing artistic duties on the ongoing Rom series. The cover art for Rom #0 is by the Wild Blue Yonder team of Zach Howard and Nelson Daniel.
“It’s no hyperbole for me to say that launching a new Rom comic is one of the things we’ve most wanted to make happen for fans,” said Chris Ryall. “I know this because I’m one of them. The character has been absent from comics for too long and we can’t wait to introduce this all-new version to the world.”
Rom the Space Knight tells the story of Rom, a member of the benevolent Solstar Order and greatest of the Space Knights, interstellar soldiers in a centuries-old war with the Dire Wraiths. The Wraiths are a race of alien invaders who’ve destroyed many planets and infiltrated Earth for nefarious purposes.
Rom the Space Knight #0 will feature an introductory 10-page story of Rom’s arrival on Earth, an incident that sets up an ongoing Rom series launching in July 2016.
“Many people have only heard of Rom but that’s it,” continued Ryall. “And those that do know of his past iteration might have some preconceived notion of what this series will be. And while we can promise that the DNA of the character as established with the original toy remains intact, there will be surprises galore as people experience a new universe built entirely around Rom and company.”
As an added bonus, the issue will contain additional content including character sketches, creator interviews and a glimpse of things to come. This debut represents a major launch for IDW and Hasbro next year, and this special first story will be free throughout the universe next May!

4001 A.D. #1 – Matt Kindt & Clayton Crain Forge the Future in the Valiant Event of 2016!
At the dawn of the 41st century, the future of Earth will be decided in the stars. Next summer…the rebellion begins in 4001 A.D.!
In the tradition of BOOK OF DEATH, ARMOR HUNTERS, and HARBINGER WARS, Valiant is proud to announce its most ambitious crossover event yet: 4001 A.D.! Beginning with an all-new prologue in the pages of the VALIANT: 4001 A.D. FCBD SPECIAL on Free Comic Book Day 2016, the forces of the future unite behind the fallen guardian of New Japan, Rai, in 4001 A.D. #1 (of 4) – the FIRST ISSUE of an all-new, four-issue event series from New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt (NINJAK, DIVINITY, Mind MGMT) and superstar artist Clayton Crain (RAI, X-Force)!
"The year 4001 has always been a vital component of the Valiant Universe but, now, for the first time, we'll finally be pulling back to reveal the true scale of this world and the wildly diverse cast of heroes that inhabit it," said Valiant Editor-in-Chief Warren Simons. "Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain have pushed themselves to design a story that is positively brimming with crazy-mad energy, continent-sized ideas and unthinkable potential. From cosmic beings and sentient cities to post-apocalyptic warrior kings and cybernetic samurai, 4001 A.D. will see the Valiant heroes pushed beyond the threshold and into territory far beyond anything we have ever attempted before."
"Over the past two years, Matt and Clayton have defied all expectations with their epic and acclaimed work on RAI. Now, they're expanding that vision to include not just one hero, but dozens for a James Cameron-meets-Jack Kirby vision of Valiant's future and RAI's incredibly important place at its epicenter," said Valiant CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani. "As always, everyone at Valiant – from our writers to our artists to our editorial team – is challenging themselves to ensure that 4001 A.D. lives up to Valiant's growing reputation for creating the highest-quality and most accessible event comics anywhere in the industry today."
One hundred years from today, Father – the benevolent artificial intelligence that governs the island nation of Japan – will gain sentience. To defend its borders, Father will take drastic action by launching Japan into space…where its people can thrive in isolation, away from the overpopulated and resource-deprived planet below. Over the centuries, as New Japan orbits our increasingly unstable world, it will become a model society – one built on peace, prosperity…and Father's control.
A thousand years from today, Father will create the first Rai, founding a lineage of technologically enhanced heroes engineered to defend New Japan and sworn to protect it from all enemies. For hundreds of years into the future, the Rai will single-handedly enforce New Japan's justice well…and serve Father without question.
Now, at the dawn of 4001 A.D., the latest Rai is about to inherit the dark truth behind the origin of his kind…and discover the sinister secret at the heart of Father's existence. For New Japan to live, Earth must die…and as Rai challenges his former master for the first time in more than a millennium, the lone guardian of New Japan will be cast out of his own Father's kingdom…
Exiled from the only realm he's ever known, Rai now walks the ravaged world of 4001 A.D. in search of forgotten heroes like himself…on a mission to collect the last surviving legends of a broken planet…and to forge a rebellion with the power to bring the most advanced civilization in history crashing back down to Earth.
Earth must rise. Father must fall. Rai! Eternal Warrior! X-O Manowar! Bloodshot! Geomancer! Armstrong! And more! The war for the ultimate fate of humanity begins in 4001 A.D.!
In the wake of Free Comic Book Day 2016, 4001 A.D. #1 (of 4) kicks off Valiant's landmark crossover event of the New Year in May 2016! Then, the war on New Japan will spread with the return of RAI's own titular ongoing series and glimpses of the other heroes of 4001 A.D. in a new series of one-shots throughout the summer. Further details on more 4001 A.D releases will follow in 2016.
Next summer, the future of the Valiant Universe looms large with an all-new entry point into the most acclaimed publishing line in comics, only in 4001 A.D. #1 – coming in May from Valiant superstars Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain!
Plus: Don't miss a never-before-seen prelude to the blockbuster comics event of the summer in the VALIANT: 4001 A.D. FCBD SPECIAL as Rai's crusade to save the future from itself starts here with an all-new story from Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain! Then, the biggest Free Comic Book Day release of the year continues with exclusive looks inside Valiant's next can't-miss milestones, including A&A: THE ADVENTURES OF ARCHER & ARMSTRONG #1 by rising star Rafer Roberts and comic book superstar David Lafuente, and DIVINITY II #1 (of 4) by New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt and blockbuster artist Trevor Hairsine!
