Gaiman's American Gods on HBO?

I could see this being either absolutely brilliant or completely disastrous, but the early reviews for A Game of Thrones give me hope that it will be the former.  This, of course, assumes that the series actually gets off the ground.

a meandering, episodic structure that frustrated some readers of the book

Gaiman has been doing some pub lately for a new author's edition of American Gods, which restores some of the material that Gaiman had to cut from the original. I quite liked the book. I think I've read it twice in 10 years; for me, that's high praise. Sometime recently, I started wondering what if American Gods had been done as a comic instead of a novel, spread over 70-some issues like Sandman. American Gods has that same epic approach that worked for Sandman, -- something that has been absent in Gaiman's more recent, shorter and focused work -- and its supposed "meandering, episodic structure" would have been a good fit for comics, too.

    Just a stray thought.

Wonder what updating they'll do for TV? Who will play the God of Twitter?
