John Romita’s The Amazing Spider-Man: Artist’s Edition Coming in December
Newest Addition to IDW’s acclaimed Artist’s Edition
series features classic Marvel comics
Romita took over the art duties on Spider-Man after series co-creator Steve Ditko left the book. It was a hard act to follow, but Romita would soon make the book his own and go on to be arguably the most popular Spider-Man artist to ever draw the wall-crawler.
“John Romita was THE Spider-Man artist for a generation of fans,” said Scott Dunbier, editor of the Artist’s Edition line, “and looking at these lush originals it’s easy to see why. Absolutely exquisite work!”
An oversized, hardcover collection, JOHN ROMITA’S THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: ARTIST’S EDITION will feature 144 pages of beautiful stories and a gorgeous cover gallery. All the pages in the ARTIST’S EDITION will be scanned from original art to ensure the highest possible quality reproduction. While appearing to be in black and white, each page will be scanned in color to mimic as closely as possible the experience of viewing the actual original art—for instance, white-out corrections, non repro-blue pencil, paste-overs, etc. All the things that make original art unique!
“There are few artists who’ve made a bigger impact in comics than John Romita and it’s exciting to see his work brought to life this way”, said Dan Buckley, Publisher & President, Print, Animation & Digital Divisions, Marvel Worldwide Inc. “No fan of Marvel will want to miss the unique look at some of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever told.”
IDW’s growing Artist’s Edition series features some of the best comics art ever created. The series launched in 2010 with DAVE STEVENS’ THE ROCEKTEER, followed by the now sold out WALTER SIMONSON’S THE MIGHTY THOR: ARTIST’S EDITION in July 2011. The third edition, WALLY WOOD’S EC STORIES, will be available in November.
As announced at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con IDW will continue to expand its Artist’s Edition series with WILL EISNER’S THE SPIRIT, coming in 2012. Look for more Artist’s Editions to be announced early next year.
