MAD celebrates Spy vs. Spy 50th with artist created Spy action figures
To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Spy vs. Spy, MAD invited a diverse group of artists to customize a 6-inch “blank” version of the Spy action figure. The resulting customized figures are a must-see feature on MAD’s new blog THE IDIOTICAL where a new Spy is unveiled every weekday.
Check out figures from artists including Sam Flores, Randy Klimpert, Peter Bagge, Sket One, Al Jaffee, Shawn Knapp, Dave Perillo, David Anson Russo, Andrew Bell, Steve Kiwus, Derf, Peter Kuper, Tom Bunk, Hermann Mejia, Brandon Ortwein, Felt Mistress & Jonathan Edwards, Liz Lomax and Jason Freeny. And in honor of Antonio Prohias, creator of the legendary feature Spy vs. Spy, sculptor Lisa Barnstone worked with the Prohias family to create “The Prohias Family’s Prohias” — an incredible Spy that combines the Spy and Antonio himself — right down to his cigarette, guayabera and drafting table. There are dozens of Spy figures still to be shown, including designs from Bill Amend, Pixar’s Jay Shuster, Pendleton Ward, Mike Allred, Jon Burgerman, Simon Doonan, McBess and Tom Otterness.
The custom figures were recently on display at San Diego Comic-Con and proved to be a huge draw. Don’t miss this amazing Spy collection!
