  • I call BS on Marvel on this one.

I think they deliberately short-printed these issues. Marvel still has tons (Almost 6,000 copies) of the first issue of Ultimate Spider-Man sitting in Diamond's warehouse. I just ordered 10 more myself.

And Ultimates? Marvel printed so many copies of #1 that for the past 2 weeks reordered copies of this issue (and Ultimate Hawkeye #1) were sold to retailers for a dollar each.

Marvel is trying to make it look like the Ultimate Universe relaunch is as big a deal as the DCU relaunch and trying to steal their thunder.

The really sad thing is that these comics deserve extra attention, but for the content, not the print run.

  • Yeah, my BS detector went off too.
  • Speaking of BS, isn't it kind of stupid that DC announce second and third printings of Justice League of America #1 at the same time?  Couldn't they just have a bigger second printing?
  • They couldn't.

Because of the way the printing system works, the only way they could rush a 2nd printing out soon enough to sate any of the demand was to insert a 25K order into the schedule. That was the most copies the printer could squeeze in. DC placed the order, and then announced the 2nd printing to retailers. Within a few days, the entire print run was eaten up. It was eaten up, and surpassed to the extent that any store that placed orders for it will be allocated to less than half of what they ordered! So DC managed to get another 25K order onto the next week's schedule, and then opened up orders for retailers on that one.

I have no doubt that this issue is going to hit 5 printings, possibly as many as 7. I still have plenty of first printings, but the demand is still there, and new customers are still showing up every day.
