With all the attention on DC's 52 #1s in September, I thought I would see what Marvel is doing so...

  • Steve Rogers is still Commander Rogers. A bit unexpected.
  • Davedevil joins the Avengers. Bendis has been hinting at that since the first New Avengers series.
  • Fear Itself: Hulk Vs Dracula #1 of 3. I wonder how green blood tastes!
  • Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and UC X-Men #1s. I got off the Ultimate ride years ago with no regrets. I feel the same now.
  • John Carter : A Princess of Mars 5-issue mini, concurrent with Dynamite's series. If Marvel wants to do ERB's books, why not start with Tarzan of the Apes? There's already the Disney connection!
  • A lot of Spider Island tie ins to go with the Fear Itself ones. Couner programming, perhaps!
  • Neal Freakin' Adams pencils New Avengers #16.1!!! What about Batman: Odyssey?
  • The Destroyer appears in Mighty Thor #6. Shocking!
  • These Big Shots titles are really thrusted in the MU!
  • Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive: new starting point but keeping Daredevil's issue count!
  • Thunderbolts #163- Yep, Mister Hyde's been watching League of Extraordinary Gentlemen!
  • The End of the X-Men Is Coming! Yeah right!

  • I read somewhere that Batman: Odyssey will also have a new #1 issue -- the second set of six in this 12-issue miniseries being numbered like a second six-issue miniseries. It will arrive in the second or third wave of relaunches ... and at a guess I'm betting they want to have all six in hand before they solicit the first.
  • Isn't there supposed to be a John Carter movie on the way? The idea could be to have a collection of the material ready to go when it arrives.
  • I just read the first two issues of Gil Kane's Marvel series of 1977.  It was my first exposure to JC.  They were great.  I'd love to read more.  It'd be great if the movie coming out spurred them to release those again, preferably as an Essential

(edited to add:  I see Dark Horse has already done so:

    • John Carter of Mars: Warlord of Mars (paperback, 632 pages, March 2011, ISBN 1595826920)

So is the quality sustained for 632 pages?)

The End of the X-Men Is Coming?

    Yeah!

    So right!

  • The issues have recently been collected, by Dark Horse. It's also published collections of Carter stories from other publishers.

  • I was never a passenger on the Ultimate ride. Ult. Spidey was good, but I was never a huge Spidey fan. Ultimates left me cold. I read Ultimatum, but just as part of my job; I didn't enjoy it at all.

The new writers on the non-Spidey Ultimate titles are pretty terrific though, so I might actually check them out this time.

  • "Neal Freakin' Adams pencils New Avengers #16.1!!!"

My favorite artist and my least favorite writer. Sorry, Mr. Adams. I just won't buy the book.
