Earlier today, I read issues 5-6 of Old Man Logan, and I did a search to see if there was a thread about this book yet, but alas, there doesn't seem to be.

I think this is one of the best things Jeff Lemire has written for either of the Big Two. His handling of Logan is really done well here. You get a man who is in a place where things have turned out far different than where he's from. This Logan was a family man before it was all taken away from him. So far, it's the story of this guy trying to get by in a world where than never happened.

The art is by Andrea Sorrentino, who did I, Vampire and Green Arrow before this. His look is perfect for a dark and moody story.

These two issues were about the Reavers of our world trying to wreak havoc on his life, and it is as violent as you would want it to be.

Anyone else read this?

  • I've been reading it. So far I like it a lot. Even went back and got the Green Arrow books by the same team.
  • I'm glad to see this thread. I'd been wondering if Old Man Logan was worth a look, or if it was just a rehash of the same two or three storylines that the old Wolverine series kept rehashing. Tell me more!

  • To add to what Sensei said, this series picks up directly after the Secret Wars mini. Logan has been somehow dropped into the present day main Marvel U.  His main goal, initially, is to try and prevent the Millar timeline from occurring until he realizes it probably won't occur anyway.

Personally, I prefer this to the Millar story. It's a little more low key. Kind of noirish. Similar vibe to Lemire's Bloodshot stuff.  It's a bit decompressed but still satisfying.

  • I like that it shows his wife and kids (can't remember if that was in the original arc or not) and how happy he was with them. It wasn't "Dad showing his kid how to sail a sailboat" happy, but it was "proud papa" happy. The first few issues just show him encountering different members of the Marvel U and interacting with them. It much less "bad-ass" than the original story from Wolverine, but he's still a hardened individual because of his background. I am enjoying watching a cross between relieved that it didn't come to be, but still hardened because he had to experience his past.

  • Okay, I read issue 7 today. It ups the game even more. He really takes care of Lady Deathstrike and the Reavers.

  • I always disliked Lady Deathstrike as a silly villain. Any time she's put down I'm good!

  • Same. I have never understood how she gets any leverage to cut anything with those long fingernails.

  • I had completely forgotten that this was the same team that did Green Arrow. Not sure why I didn't read that run. But, I must admit, I impulse-purchased the Deluxe Hardcover of their run after I read this post. I'm loving Old Man Logan that much.
