Princess Ugg 3, spoilers

There wasn't much in the last issue, but this one has some good background on Ulga. None on Julifer yet, but I'm hoping for a Captains Courageous sort of transformation. On her and some of the others anyway, so far I can't see much difference between the princesses and breeding stock. They seem to have no ambition beyond looking good and having families. Ulga talks to one of the teachers just before she's planning on leaving and reveals that her mother was a great warrior queen, the latest in a long line of them. She led her people against the Frost Giants in a great battle and won and afterwards didn't find the victory to her tastes. She killed, as she put it "Some mither's son! Some child's father! Some poor lass's sweetheart!!! Did yey no' hear 'em weepin' on the battlefield?" She's actually dying from wounds taken during the battle but before she does she gives Ulga the task of finding a way besides war to gain peace. Ulga has no idea what she's talking about, but her teacher tells her that what she needs to learn is diplomacy. She also needs to know how to read and he'll help her with both. The reading won't be too hard, but he decides the best way to learn diplomacy is for Ulga to become friends with Julifer. If -he tells her- she can lay aside her personal feelings and find common ground with Julifer she'll have taken a big step toward mastering the art of diplomacy. Ulga's first try on this front is to volunteer to help with Julifer's unicorn mount and the unicorn seems to have Julifer's personality. I like the way this story is going, now if they can just develop Julifer a bit more.
