OK, I admit it: It's cute.

DC's Valentine's Day Special offers six stories mixing adventure and romance, with varying degrees of success. Catwoman remembers her first meeting with Batman. Aquaman and Mera bring the ghosts of two long-dead lovers together. Batgirl gives differently-abled thief Ricky (who appeared once in her own book) a thrill. Apollo gives up waiting for Midnighter and goes for a one-night stand. Nightwing gets dumped and then stood up, by two different girls. A Superman/Wonder Woman date gets interrupted by a surprisingly legitimate threat for two of the most powerful people on the planet (some of Diana's relatives).

OK, none of this stuff probably "counts," in the continuity sense. And it's romance, so by definition it's pretty frothy. So if you're looking for Superman and Doomsday to throw down for 20 pages, you're looking in the wrong place.

But for what it is, it's cute. Especially the centerfold, which is cardboard, punch-out Valentine's Day cards featuring various DC characters. OK, Catwoman saying "You're Purr-fect" on a VD card isn't exactly rocket science, but again: For what it is, it's cute.
