It's time for the 2012 Mopee Awards! Think of them as an early Christmas present or a leftover bit of turkey. Either way, you have to admit they don't make classics like these any more:
How sad is it that THIS is the highpoint of my reading throughout the year? Not Flashpoint Now 52 Reign or Secret Invasion of the Black Lanterns but the Mopee awards (BTW kiddos, Showcase Presents Flash Volume 4 reprints the original Mopee story, get your copy while supplies last ;) Just kidding. I seriously do LOVE the column.
I'm glad you like it. Sadly, I'm not running out of Mopee contenders
One note on the SP Flash: I read that Mopee story so my devoted followers wouldn't have to. It's just one of many services provided by the AMSA column.
THE ATOM: obviously The Incredible Shrinking Man was still on Gardner Fox's mind. Then again Ant-Man fought an ant-eater and faced his "Bath-Tub of Terror!"
JIMMY OLSEN: it is still my firm belief that Superman used Jimmy as his personal reality show to give his life some amusement! Probably filmed everything!
You know, Silver Age Superman had the ability to do a "Truman Show" on Jimmy on a planetary scale. What if the entirety of SP:JA was set on a fake Earth, populated by robots (except Jimmy, of course), all for Supe's amusement?
That would make the Jimmy stories make a lot more sense!
"Should I keep this alien radioactive element safely confined in my Fortress? Nah, I'll give it to Jimmy! Maybe he'll grow two heads or become a human lightning rod! Either way, it's been dull around here! So it's win-win for me!"
"After that, maybe I'll make Lois blind for a while. For her own good, of course!"

For the first time? Oh, how I envy your years of sweet, sweet blissful ignorance.
BTW, in case you didn't realize it, I pulled that issue of Superman #127 from my very own collection to scan for that article. I'm thinking that, someday, the Mr. Silver Age pedigree collection of Silver Age comics will be worth tens of dollars.
I actually have a couple prized Mr. Age-pedigreed books in my collection... unfortunately, they all feature BUNNY.
Unlike my pal Hoy, who spent far too many of his formative years reading Smiley, Sturdy and Jolly, I read the original Mopee story way back when, which begs the question: Has that Mopee issue of FLASH itself actually won a Mopee? (It would take me too long to dig through my complete collection of Ask Mr. Age columns to find the very first Mopee Awards presentation, as richly rewarding as such an endeavor would be). Or would that be like Cy Young winning a Cy Young award?
Personally, I think that giving a Mopee-ing a Jimmy Olsen story is redundant; as I believe even the great Mr. Age himself once said, giving a Mopee to a Weisinger Jimbo or Lois story (or, for that matter, any Kanigher Wonder Woman story) is like shooting fish in a barrel using a bazooka. But it does open up the possibilities of future Mopee enshrinements: Since the Jimbos and Human Torches of the world were more or less set up as comedy, not straight adventure stories, maybe it's time Mr. Age ventures into the hidden catacombs of off-genre Silver Age corridors and track down "what were they thinking?" moments from the likes of SUGAR & SPIKE, MILLIE THE MODEL, FOX & CROW, and all them hundreds of Gold Key, Archie and Harvey titles. Maybe even BUNNY! ;)

I just read the Mopee Flash origin for the first time Friday in the new Showcase Presents The Flash Vol. 4! After all these years, now I understand.
