40Seconds #1 (comixology, Aug. 25)
Grab some popcorn and a soda and prepare to be transported across the galaxy with 40Seconds, a widescreen, sci-fi adventure available from comiXology Originals. Writer Jeremy Haun (Red Mother), acclaimed artist Chris Mitten (Witchfinder: The Reign of Darkness), colorist Brett Weldele, and letterer and designer Thomas Mauer have created an epic, 5-issue mini-series that spans the universe, featuring amazing creatures, epic vistas, character drama, and just a bit of horror. Part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive, creator-owned content, 40 Seconds debuts August 25th with issue #1.
When a team of science explorers set out to answer a distress call a galaxy away, they have no idea what they're in for. Their mission: make it to Terminus. Tasked with investigating what happened to the previous team and gathering data, they find themselves traveling through a series of alien gateways, jumping across the universe through strange and beautiful landscapes only to be hunted by a vast inexplicably unstoppable horde. Truths lie at the final gate. If only they can make it in time.
“Chris Mitten and I had been planning on doing a project together for...ever,” says Haun. “When the stars aligned and we were both available to do something, I asked what he wanted to draw and he said ‘big sci-fi fantasy’. I had just the thing. And 40 Seconds was born. Chris Mitten is brilliant at everything he does, but when he draws science fiction fantasy it’s just... perfect.”
Perhaps best known for illustrating Hellboy stories, 40 Seconds marks Mitten’s return to sci-fi. “Summer is about big, blockbuster storytelling and, with 40 Seconds, the chance to zip around the universe is just a click away,” said Mitten.
“I love the big weird sci-fi comics from the 1950’s, the wild science fiction of the ‘70’s and the blockbusters of the ‘80s,” said Haun. “More than ever we need big fun escapist stories. We can't really get that in the theater right now. We can't quite go on grand adventures. With a comic story like 40 Seconds, we can bring an epic, world-hopping adventure straight to readers.”
Part of the comiXology Originals line of exclusive content, 40 Seconds #1 will be available upon release August 25, 2020 at no additional cost, for members of Amazon Prime, Kindle Unlimited, and comiXology Unlimited, and for purchase on Kindle and comiXology. Prime Reading offers all Amazon Prime members a rotating selection of thousands of top Kindle books, magazines, short works, comic books, children’s books, and more – all at no additional cost. Kindle Unlimited offers over 1 million titles, thousands of audiobooks, and select current issues of popular magazines for just $9.99 a month with a 30-day free trial at amazon.com/kindleunlimited. ComiXology Unlimited now offers over 25,000 comics, graphic novels and manga for just $5.99 a month with a 30-day free trial at comixology.com/unlimited.

Locke & Key: … In Pale Battalions Go … #1 (of 2)
Following the smashing first season success of the Netflix Original Series Locke & Key produced by IDW Entertainment, new fans are flocking to join the already massive following for Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodríguez’s beloved horror/fantasy tale. To satisfy demand in the interim before Locke & Key’s second season debut, IDW Publishing is thrilled to announce the next wave of published offerings in the Locke & Key franchise. There’s no better time for fans to experience the full breadth of the comic series that The A.V. Club calls “a modern masterpiece!”
“I always wanted to have my own series character, like Philip Marlowe, Jack Reacher, or Sherlock Holmes. I just somehow never imagined my series character would be... a house. But that house is a home -- my creative home,” says Hill. “I’ve spent some of the happiest hours of my life knocking around Keyhouse’s closets, cabinets, and odd corners, hanging there with my artistic compadres, Gabriel Rodríguez, Chris Ryall, and Jay Fotos. We've never stopped having fun and I couldn't be more excited about the stories we've got ahead of us. We're going to do our very best to unlock some good things in 2020.”
“Locks work both ways, so of course the ending of the first Locke & Key epic would lead to new journeys altogether. It's natural that Joe, Jay, Chris, and I would be eager to explore Keyhouse’s other thrilling and impossible tales,” says Rodríguez. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see the saga of Chamberlin Locke unfold and reach a bombastic ending in the upcoming arcs ...In Pale Battalions Go… and Hell and Gone, the latter of which will give us the chance to pay tribute to one of the mythologies that inspired us all to devote our lives to comics -- DC’s The Sandman Universe. And even that is only the beginning... so brace yourselves!”
“It’s impressive how Joe and Gabriel keep finding new ways to expand the scope and breadth of Locke & Key, so for that reason alone, I’m happy to be working with them again,” says Chris Ryall, editor of the series. “But really, what I remain most excited about is just the chance to continue working alongside some of the most talented and special people I’ve ever had the good fortune to work with. The great comics to come are just a bonus after that.”
August through October will see the release of the three-part miniseries, Locke & Key: ...In Pale Battalions Go..., serving as a lead-in to Hell & Gone, Locke & Key’s hotly anticipated crossover with DC’s The Sandman Universe slated for late fall. Set in the spring of 1915, the story follows John Locke, a patriot too young to enlist in the greatest war of all. He intends to use the impossible, reality-bending keys to turn the tide on the grimmest battlefield of the 20th century… a hellscape whose darkness might even strike fear into an army of shadows.

Bomb Queen Trump Card #1 (of 4)
PORTLAND, Ore. — Fan-favorite series Bomb Queen returns, after eight years, with a brand-new four-issue miniseries in Bomb Queen: Trump Card by Jimmie Robinson (Five Weapons, The Empty). The explosive satire will launch this August from Image/Shadowline. Please note that Bomb Queen is rated as VERY MATURE!
Set in the year 2024, Bomb Queen: Trump Card follows supervillain Bomb Queen on her quest to stop Donald Trump from becoming president for life. Her plan: campaign against Trump, steal his voter base, and lay bare America’s dark underbelly in the process.
This new chapter in the series promises the kind of irreverent, twisted fun longtime fans of the character have come to expect—in other words, it’s pretty much guaranteed to offend everyone!
“I returned to Bomb Queen to get a few things off my chest,” said Robinson. “From social politics to the state of the comic industry, nothing is safe from the Queen of obscene. Sometimes the best medicine is bitter and hard to swallow, and considering the current state of things, it seemed the perfect time for her to return to add to the chaos!”

The soaring sentinel of the space-ways may have finally met his match in the all-new series FANTASTIC FOUR: ANTITHESIS – the first full-length Fantastic Four story ever illustrated by industry legend Neal Adams! Adams is joined by Eisner Award-winning writer Mark Waid (Daredevil, Captain America, Fantastic Four), who jam-packs this tale with a fan-favorite roster of Fantastic Four heroes and villains! Together, this celebrated creative team create a new nemesis for the Fantastic Four guaranteed to send shockwaves throughout all of fandom.
“Working with Neal Adams has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. To share the page with a man of his talent is an honor,” Waid says. “The story begins with the Fantastic Four struggling to prevent an extinction event on Earth and just goes more cosmic from there. We all know of Galactus, but until now, no one has met his Antithesis.”
Adams shares his enthusiasm about the project. “I have always had the sense of missing the chance to draw the Fantastic Four. It was a quiet sense, since I’ve had every opportunity to do my favorites. More, I felt Kirby and Buscema had done it all, hadn’t they…?” he begins. “When Marvel’s Tom Brevoort asked if I’d like to do the Fantastic Four, I knew I had to ask for Galactus and the Silver Surfer as well. I am humbled and thankful to Tom for the opportunity.
“There’s lots of surprises,” promises Adams. "We got to really jam a lot of stuff in there.”
Who or what is the Antithesis, and will the combined might of the Fantastic Four, the Silver Surfer, and Galactus himself be enough to defeat it?

School for Extraterrestrial Girls Volume 1
Art/Cover: Jamie Noguchi
Tara Smith's parents are super strict with all their rules and routines, and Tara is a dutiful daughter. Rule #1: No friends her own age. Rule #2: keep her bracelet on - or else. But when she breaks her routine - and then loses her bracelet - she's in trouble. Now outed as an extraterrestrial after wielding fire and losing her humanoid form, Tara is captured by the government. She's given two options: get shipped far away where she won't be a danger to anyone or stay on Earth and join a school for other extraterrestrial girls like her. Things at the school aren't easy, especially for the girl whose only friends were textbooks. But Tara's goal to learn how to control her powers is soon sidelined by the discovery that the people she's called Mom and Dad all these years aren't her parents. Available in softcover and hardcover editions.
