Abrams to Publish the First Official Guide to Cartoon Network’s Top-Rated Animated Show

The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia

What time is it? Adventure Time!

April 17, 2013: New York, New York: Abrams will publish The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia, the first-of-its-kind, definitive guide to the show’s beloved characters and world. The book was written by Martin Olson, the voice actor for the Lord of Evil on Adventure Time, who narrates the book in character. It also features original illustrations by Renee French, Tony Millionaire, Celeste Moreno, Aisleen Romano, and Mahendra Singh, and is being designed by Sean Tejaratchi. The show's creator, Pendleton Ward, is contributing original content to the book as well.

Created in conjunction with Cartoon Network Enterprises, The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia includes everything anyone will ever need to know about the Land of Ooo and its inhabitants—secret lore and spells, fun places you should visit and places where you will probably die, what to eat and not to eat, whom to marry and whom not to marry, how to make friends and how to destroy your enemies—plus “marginalia” and doodles by Finn, Jake, and Marceline.

The Emmy® Award–nominated show first exploded onto television screens in April 2010, and is one of the most popular animated programs on Cartoon Network. Adventure Time follows the adventures of Jake the dog and Finn the human in the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo. Best friends Finn and Jake live among other colorful, crazy characters such as Princess Bubblegum, Lady Rainicorn, Lumpy Space Princess, the Ice King, and Marceline the Vampire Queen, and the show’s climactic storylines, vibrant, colorful animation, and adult humor and character development have made Adventure Time a hitamong children, tweens, college students, and adults.

The Adventure Time Encyclopaedia is both a companion and an indispensable supplement to the characters, story, and world of the show. Fans of all ages will love this side-splittingly funny, complex, and intricate love letter to the cartoon.

  • I bought this off of Amazon. It was a thing of beauty. This is the kind of book that, when I was a kid, I could have received hours and hours of enjoyment from poring over every nook and cranny of it. So many drawings would have been copied from it; so many details memorized. This book was worth every penny already. If I wasn't convinced it would get wrecked, I would take it to school and let the kids read it. Plus, it would undoubtedly cause fights.

Seriously awesome for any fan of the cartoon/comic.

  • I have a review copy. Would you rather do the review? The floor is yours, and I will put in my SHNS column if you give me something to work with!

  • Ooh. How much time do I have?

  • A week.

  • Sweet. Do I message it to you when I'm done?

  • Why don't you just post a review here? Then if there's something applicable to the column I can just quote you!

  • Perfect! Thanks!
