Having just read Wolverine & The X-Men #1, without finishing X-Men: Schism it should be noted, I was a bit surprised that I enjoyed so much. I was put off slightly by the opening scene, supposedly between Logan and Professor X because they sure weren't acting like themselves! But I got used to the tone and this "Wolverine Out of His Comfort Zone" premise. WAY out, in fact. He is portrayed slightly handsomer but walking around in a suit and tie had me wonder how and why Bigby Wolf is leading the X-Men.

"Professor" Logan being Headmaster of the newly retitles Jean Grey School of Higher Learning is a risky move for Marvel, considering that he is also an Avenger and is featured in about twenty titles a month but it is time for the old warrior to try a different track.

(BTW, so Jean is still dead, huh? Just checking.)

Kitty's new role brings her journey full circle as well. The awkward New Girl to Intimidating Headmistress is almost Dickensian. Nice to see she still has her anti-Emma Frost feelings! Stand firm, I fully believe that you will be proven right!

I never read Generation X, X-Force, Genetix, New New Mutants, etc so many of the background characters have little impact on me: Doop, Husk, Glob, Hellion and the like but thankfully there's the Beast and Iceman.

Nice anti-bullying message given and it looks like the kids, good, bad and indifferent, will have major roles in the book. Kid Gladiator? Does Marvel really need another Superman/boy "homage"?

Can't wait for #2!

  • Plus the Toad as the custodian! I guess trying to turn him into a major villain failed!

  • I liked this issue more than I thought. I like Chris Bachalo's are usually however here it was a bit off putting. Other than that it was a great first issue.

  • Kitty never died.
