AWARD-WINNING CREATIVE DUO BEHIND “CYBERPUNK 2077: BIG CITY DREAMS” PRESENTS AN ORIGINAL GRAPHIC NOVEL: “THE WEAPON IS HUNGRY”
Feed your need for a kaiju-fighting, tragic tale of motherhood and second chances in a world where a child could be a weapon of mass destruction!
“The Weapon is Hungry is a story I was writing for a few years,” says Sztybor. “We started working on it with Alessio almost 10 years ago, we even had 20 pages ready, much different than what you'll see in the actual version. Though the story was similar, the emotional weight was different, I think I needed to become a parent to finally find what this story should be about. Though you have giant monsters here, yakuza, a crazy sushi chef and several huge Akira-like action sequences, it is a story about parenthood and responsibilities. I always write personal stories, about things and feelings that I don't understand and that’s why I write, to explore them, understand them. But I always search for a perfect genre and pop cultural tropes to make those personal themes stand out more. That’s why the worst mother in the world (and a firefighter) suddenly needs to take care of a baby behemoth (so a kaiju-like creature) and decide what she’s really responsible for? For her human child (as a mother), a new born monster (as his guardian) or maybe for the whole of humanity (as a firefighter)? So the Weapon is Hungry is my attempt to understand; what are your most important duties and responsibilities when you’re a parent, a lover, a human being and is it possible to be and fulfil all at once.”
“It has been a long and intense journey, especially in truly exploring the characters’ emotions,” added Fioriniello. “I deeply admire Sztybor’s direction and his cinematic vision, which pushed me to build depth through movement and performance, while delivering the scale and impact that only a world of Kaiju can unleash in its action scenes.”
In The Weapon Is Hungry:
A child or a weapon of mass destruction—a deadbeat mother finds a second chance to get it right and another, to destroy the world! Estranged from her family, a troubled mom finds a baby kaiju, the first of its kind since their forced extinction. Despite its monstrous nature, she sees an innocent child worthy of love and protection, but will its true power soon be unleashed? Alongside her boyfriend, the son of an alcoholic veteran and her teammate, an eccentric chain smoker—the trio become entangled in a government conspiracy. With the yakuza, monster hunters, and a crazy sushi chef after them, they must make a choice: save the baby, save the world, or save themselves.
Experience an original story from the award-winning writer and artist behind Cyberpunk 2077: Big City Dreams in The Weapon is Hungry when the 184-page (5.75x8.25”) paperback arrives in bookstores and comic shops on October 27, 2026, for $19.99. SNEAK A PEEK AT RAM V, EVAN CAGLE, ANAND RADHAKRISHNAN'S UPCOMING GRAPHIC NOVEL SERIES DEICIDIUM LAUNCHING THIS FALL
PORTLAND, Ore. 03/13/2026 — Co-creators Ram V, Evan Cagle, and Anand "RK" Radhakrishnan are revealing a stunning sneak peek and details about their new graphic novel series, Deicidium, as first announced exclusively this week by The A.V. Club. The creators recently announced a groundbreaking six-figure book deal with French publisher Morgen for worldwide rights to publish the series, and a deal with Image Comics to publish it in English Language territories. Frequent co-collaborators V, Cagle, and RK are setting the stage on a global scale; the series will be published around the world simultaneously, with the goal of cultivating an international fan base. Esteemed editor Eric Harburn (Exquisite Corpses), who worked with V on the critically acclaimed book The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, is editing the graphic novel series. Volume 1 will hit shelves in late 2026 and there will be a Sneak Preview available at comic book shops on Free Comic Book Day this May.
Deicidium will span media and mediums, combining the strengths of V, Cagle, and RK’s lauded creations to date with disparate influences across comic books, Euro bandes dessinées, and Manga/manhwa into a singular vision of gods returning to Earth… and humanity’s need to destroy them. Fans of urban fantasy, epic sci-fi, world mythology, and character-driven action dramas will find a robust blend of these in Deicidium.
Featuring gorgeous black and white interiors, Deicidium is set in a future world governed by the marriage between Theocracies and Corporations. Worship is currency, faith is power. Welcome to the industry of belief. In this new found stability, old powers once more return to the world. Gods of fire, wind, volcanoes, jaguars—gods of mischief, stories, love and war—manifesting through everyday people. With the established hierarchy threatened, the powers that be decide to find these newly made gods and kill them. A conflict of control versus freedom. Love and worship. Born of the differing ideological ideas that those who can save us live above us versus those we love and admire will come, as they once did, from within us.
“Deicidium is a story borne out of my obsession with world mythologies and a desire to distinguish between the innocent power of stories and the power exercised by turning them into dogma,” said V. “Since that early thought, Deicidium has grown into an expansive world full of characters and conflicts that I’m having a great time exploring. And it is also a culmination of all of my ever changing influences over the years. Fantasy, sci-fi, philosophy, mythology, kinetic action and shonen-manga character dynamics—there’s a little bit of everything to be found in here and I cannot wait for readers to discover it.”
"I see every story as a chance to explore new artistic territory, and the world of Deicidium really demands a commitment to that approach to visual storytelling,” said Cagle. “The mix of competing cultures and religious influences, the globe-trotting tours of the ways people live in this future world, the character designs, the tech—all of it serves as a summon to dig deep into style and technique in order to create a unique visual language. My hope is that the art of Deicidium feels somehow both ancient and novel, just like the narrative to which it's wed."
“Deicidium will be my first foray into science fiction,” said RK. “We are also trying a different format this time around—black and white art with a slower release schedule. This gives Evan and me time to explore media and dive into the image-making process. I also plan to draw larger than usual and I personally look forward to drawing traditionally and spending time engaging with the art.”
V, who was nominated in the “Best Writer” category at the prestigious San Diego Comic-Con International Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards in 2025, is known for his psychologically-driven and genre-spanning titles often touching on deep existential themes of death, rebirth, and belief. V is particularly known for critically acclaimed and Eisner Award winning and nominated titles such as The One Hand and The Six Fingers, Rare Flavours, and The Many Deaths of Laila Starr, as well as Blue in Green with Radhakrishnan and Dawnrunner with Cagle. V is also popular for his work on DC titles such as The New Gods with Cagle, Resurrection Man: Quantum Karma with Radhakrishnan, and Swamp Thing.
A former animator and art director of video games, animation, film and TV, Cagle has amassed accolades from peers and fans for his unique, highly-detailed blend of classical illustration and cross-cultural visual storytelling. He is known for his award-winning cover artwork for titles such as Dune: House Atreides, Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Chosen Ones (for which he won the ASFA Chesley), The Witcher, and Stranger Things, and his iconic Eisner Award nominated cover art work for Detective Comics during V’s run on the legendary series.
Radhakrishnan is an award-winning artist and illustrator with a fine art background, whose attention to detail and loose energetic inking results in a stunningly unique, organic and dynamic style. He has collaborated with V on many projects, including Grafity’s Wall, Radio Apocalypse and Batman: Urban Legends. Alongside his interior artwork, he is an accomplished cover artist, creating works for DC, BOOM! Studios, and Image Comics on titles such as The Deviant, The Department of Truth, The Nice House on the Lake, Swamp Thing, and more.
Deicidium, Vol. 1 trade paperback (ISBN: 9781534334953) will be available at local comic book shops on Wednesday, September 23 and independent bookstores, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, Indigo, and Waterstones on Tuesday, October 20.

Fantagraphics To Publish Requiem For Gaza, New Investigative Graphic Journalism by Chris Hedges & Joe Sacco
In Stores October 2026
Seattle, WA (February 17, 2026)
In the spring of 2025 the cartoonist Joe Sacco, author of Palestine and Footnotes in Gaza, and Chris Hedges, the former Middle East Bureau Chief for The New York Times, traveled to Cairo where they interviewed 29 Palestinian families who had recently left Gaza. In Requiem for Gaza, they use the experience and stories of these families to detail the crucible of the genocide, the loss of homes and communities, the appalling death toll among friends and loved ones, the constant displacement, the terror of indiscriminate killing, the hunger and deprivation, the obliteration of all that was known and familiar, and the struggle to cope with the callous indifference of a world that continues to supply Israel with weapons despite its wholesale destruction of Gaza and mass slaughter.
Requiem for Gaza, like their New York Times best seller Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt, combines comics and single images drawn by Sacco within the narrative written by Hedges. Hedges’ vivid prose and Sacco’s visceral images complement each other and together paint a portrait of dignity and suffering under genocide. The collective power of the individual stories that chronicle the first day of the genocide, the forced evacuation of homes, the targeted assassinations, the false hopes engendered by ceasefires, the dislocation and alienation of exile, the brutal killing and hasty burial of family members, and the humiliation of living under tarps without clean food and water bring every aspect of the genocide to life. Set against this horror are stories of self-sacrifice and compassion that show how Palestinians not only clung to their humanity, but morally triumphed over their killers.
From Fantagraphics publisher and Requiem for Gaza Editor Gary Groth:
Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco, along with a handful of other courageous journalists, have been at the forefront of providing rigorous reportage and steadfast opposition to Israel's genocide and the IDF's atrocities against the Palestinian people — in the face of a largely insensate international response. We are proud to publish this vigorously researched and blazingly humane work of investigative journalism.
Requiem For Gaza will be available wherever books are sold as a hardcover graphic novel (ISBN: 979-8-8750-0272-4) as well as a digital edition, in October 2026, for a list price of $24.99. For more information, please visit the Fantagraphics web site.
