How "kid friendly" is this?

I'm thinking about taking Action Lad, who's 7 ("and two-thirds!", as he would point out), but I don't really have the time to see it myself first, as I usually do.

To put this in perspective, my wife and I agreed that "The Avengers" was OK for him.  A few very mild curse words, "comic-booky" violence, no sexual situations.

Same story for the 3 Raimi Spideys, as well as the Thor and Captain America movies.  But I haven't let him watch "The Incredible Hulk" because I think the violence is a bit too much, just yet.

I know this is hugely subjective (and depends on the kid), but I'd appreciate your thoughts.

  • I would say if The Avengers is okay, so is this. Of course, Uncle Ben's death is sad.

  • I don't have any kids, so  take it for what it is worth. It might be a bit bloodier than Avengers, and the violence a bit more graphic, but no extremely so. I don't recall any swearing, but I rarely notice it. I would agree with JD, if he was okay with Avengers this should be fine.

  • Thank you both.

  • Seven may be too young.  The Lizard sequences may be a bit too scary for him.

This is based on your not letting him see "Hulk."

  • Hmmm ... Thanks, Pa.

Nice to see you popping in again, by the way.

  • Yeah, I agree about the Lizard stuff.

When I watched it, it wasn't through the "with a kid" filter. You don't tend to notice the little swear words or sexual innuendos in movies when there are no kids around, but as soon as you watch it with a kid in the room, you suddenly notice all those little things. So I really have no idea.

It is, however, a fantastic movie.

  • Ditto when I would watch a movie with my mom.

  • I never did go, but I bought the Blu-Ray yesterday and watched it last night.

I thought it was a fun movie, I only caught one mild swear-ish word, and I don't think it's too scary for the Lad.  So I think we're cleared for take-off.

You know, for those of you who've been losing sleep over this.

  • I've bought the movie since then, and I enjoyed it just as much the second time around. Wonderful work.
