Andromeda's intended ending

One of the most frustrating thing that can happen to a good TV series is when the direction gets hijacked by the behind-the-scenes goings on of the production. A very good example of that happening was Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, starring Kevin Sorbo. I thought this show had a very good first season, but mid-way through the second, it just fell apart and never regained its footing. I just found out that the reason was the head writer was forced off the show in the second season, and the tone was completely changed after that. Now, normally all fans can do is imagine for themselves what might have happened had the tone stayed the same (ofttimes leading to very, very bad fanfic), but with Andromeda, there's a bonus. The former head writer wrote a one act play called "Coda" that details what he originally had planned for the show, and boy, was it ambitious. I would have loved to have watched that show. You can read the play here.

  • It's still pretty cosmic, though. The big shift in tone as I remember it was when it went from being a space opera about Dylan reforming the planetary alliance (whatever it was called) to becoming sort of an exploration of the nature of reality. I used to really like the show.
