Archie Firsts

There is some slight duplication between the recently released hardcover Archie Firsts and the long available Best of the Forties tpb. The focus of the latter is on stories from the 1940s (Duh!), whereas the former concentrates on presenting first appearances (Archie, Jughead, Betty and Reggie) as well as the complete contents of first issues [Archie Comics (1942), Archie’s Pal Jughead Comics (1949), Archie’s Rival Reggie (1949) and Archie’s Girls Betty and Veronica (1950). Archie Firsts is a good sampler, but I’m waiting for the first edition of the chronological reprinting, Archie Archives, due out April 13. Under the dust jacket, Archie Firsts is designed to look like a Riverdale High School yearbook.

  • I'm really enjoying the first volume of the Archie newspaper strip by Bob Montana that was published this year by IDW. He cartooning is wonderful and it's a shame he isn't talked about more.
  • Loved that! (Discussion here.)
