Austin Comic Con

About a week and half ago I traveled down to Austin, TX  for Wizard World
Austin Comic Con. Which I thought was note worthy since outside of
giant "W" there was nothing in the literature and signage that denoted
its affiliation with Wizard.

My highlights and a few thoughts:
  • The girl who was pretty much butt naked, dressed up as Poison Ivy on Friday. I didn't get any batteries for my camera until Saturday, and I only saw her that one day.
  • There was also a Texas Art Educators conference in the same building, and I was really happy to see all of those people getting there picture taken with a remote controlled full size R2D2 that was running around. I saw more of them getting pictures than conventioneers.
  • Another missed picture opportunity: Kevin Nash and Lou Ferrigno talking to each other. Nash is overall biggger, but Ferrigno still has better definition.
  • There was one dude who was some kind of handler for the wrestlers and he would have been hard pressed to look more like a greaseball.Maybe if he was wearing a track suit.
  • It was cool to see Adam West and Burt Ward together.
  • The guy who played the Soup Nazi seemed an odd choice. As was the girl who carried suitcase number 9 on Deal or No Deal.
  • I loved going to the Bill Sienkiewicz panel. He seemed to put a lot of thought into his answers, and he answered at length. I bailed during the last 5-10 minutes when people start getting into the minutae of Elektra.
  • I couldn't believe people would pay that much on crappy convention food when there were better, cheaper places literally across the street.
  • I am NOT used to wearing shoes for that long.
  • I was distressed that Ernie Hudson was wearing his Ghostbuster's outfit, but a friend pointed out that he probably earns more money wearing it. Point taken.
  • It was also cool to see Erin Grey and Gil Gerard together.
  • There were some "celebrities" who I had no idea who they were...
  • There was also one dealer who looked a lot like Ben from Lost.
I also enjoyed getting a ton of stuff to read at great discounts. All of the trades I bought were between 50-75% off. Including: John Romita Marvel Visionaries,a couple of Peter David Hulk trades, a THUNDER Agents archive, the first Young Avengers trade, and 2 $5 Marvel Essentials.

It was good times, and my only real problem was leaving about 3 hours later than I wanted to on Sunday.
