  • True story: my 1st exposure to The Beatles was their first appearance on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW. I'm sure of this, because we used to watch ED SULLIVAN every week.  Doing a little research, this means the very 1st Beatles song I ever heard was the first one they played on their 1st appearance on the show-- Paul's song "All My Loving".  Took me until the early 70's before I finally got that on LP.

After their multiple appearances on his show, it was only natural later on that I started watching THE BEATLES cartoon series on Saturday mornings.  That was the first time I ever heard "A Hard Day's Night", which went on to become my all-time favorite Beatles song.  In between stories, they did cartoon music videos, which included the lyrics at the bottom of the screen so you could learn to sing along.

We never listened to "pop" stations in my house in the 60's-- it was always WRCP, the "country" station. So, as strange as it may seem ED SULLIVAN was my #1 source (after THE ADVENTURES OF OZZIE & HARRIET ended) for rock & roll music.
