My initial purpose in starting this thread was to point out what I consider to be the best comic book letters page currently being published, but then I thought I might broaden the topic a bit. I remember discussions from years past about which comics had the best letters page of the day. So I present the following two questions to answer (or not) as you see fit.

1) What’s your favorite comic book letters column of today?

2) What’s your favorite comic book letters column of years past?

I’m going to leave #2 unanswered for now, but the letters page which inspired ne to start this discussion (and the one from which this discussion takes its name) is “Behold… The Letters Page!” from The Vision.

  • My favorite one of today has to be the one in the back of Savage Dragon. It's always about three or four pages long, in tiny type, and Erik Larsen responds to the letters himself. Straight out of the Bronze Age, and entirely sincere.

Of the past? It was a close one for me between Justice League (Giffen era) or Legion Outpost from Legion of Super-Heroes. It goes to Legion Outpost in the end, though. I learned enough in those lettercols (man, I just now realized how much I miss that word) to get me caught up without problem when I began reading the book back in the early 90's.

    Great topic, Jeff!
  • Writer Tom King handles the lettrcol duties of The Vision, and letters run the gamut from scholarly letters written by older fans to enthusiastic letters written by younger fans. King is always respectful and engaging, answering each letter in depth. Last month's letters was about the use of grammar. I could hardly believe it! This month a teenage girl inquired about the symbolism of a particular artefact in the Vision's household. King's response was as considered as the reader's question.
