So the ex-KGB spy now Avenger has her own series, again.

I liked this first issue, a lot. We see two assignments of Natasha's as she tries to make amends for her past. The main mission has a nice twist.

The story is stand alone, so maybe the series will be stand alone stories connecting to one huge plot instead of the decompressed format that is in most comics today.

There's a lot of action but the narration by Natasha keeps it grounded. The art style is really fitting here as well.

I recommend giving this one a shot.

  • I loved this issue.

First, the writing: Nathan Edmondson writes a story that is full of twists. Secondly, as you said, it is a stand-alone story. We know that Edmondson is awesome at writing done-in-one issues from his solid work on The Activity from Image. I hope he does many more issues in this fashion.

Second, the art: Phil Noto's artwork has never been better. The stiffness that has plagued his work in the past is gone. The way he plays with pencils and ink and color is fantastic. There was a beautiful image of Black Widow standing talking to Isaiah, her manager (new character?), where they are both just splotches of orange, but it really really works. And the imagery of Little Uraguay was full of hard black lines of broken windows, steps, and fire escapes.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  • It's stand-alone? That's exactly what I wanted to hear. I'll read no more of this thread until I have the issue in my hands.
