Another one of those guys who was in a million things. You've almost certainly seen him in something, even if you don't remember his name. I especially enjoyed his turn as a surly country musician in The Blues Brothers, but, old school Star Trek fan that I am, I most particularly remember him as this guy:

Yep, I've seen him on STAR TREK (and I don't actually rank "The Way To Eden" as one of the "worst" episodes, there's gotta be quite a few I liked MUCH less). I've also seen him on a 1st-season episode of NIGHT COURT, where he played an ex-soldier who was mistakenly believed dead, and whose wife had remarried. He also appeared (briefly) in MARRIED TO THE MOB, as a hair-dresser. (He shares a scene with Ellen Foley.)
I was reading some time ago that one of his big interests apart from acting was painting. Lot of talent for one guy!
A few years back I "cast" him in one of the stories I wrote, as the sheriff of a suburban New Jersey town. The odd thing was, I left him with his "redneck" accent and speech pattern, even though he was clearly very intelligent, reasonable and a nice guy.
I suppose it's not completely inconceivable for a redneck to be intelligent. ;)
There was actually a bar band named The Charles Napiers. I've only heard one song by them, but it was in the "spaghetti western surf guitar" category (part of the various-artists comp SPAGHETTI: "DUCK YOU SUCKERS!" album).
