Comic Book Controversy!

I alluded to this recently here and either nobody saw it or they didn't care to comment, but...

The current ACTION CO.ICS #1002 picked up a little " off the comic page " ink when a mild controversy happened over one word of dialogue...A crime boss - A villian, a bad guy, a nogoodnik - uses the term " autistic " in a pejorative manner when bawling out a henchman - " Autistic #@&?! " - who has dug up for him the info. He's Not A Nice Character At All, but there was some criticism, and scripter Bendis announced that the offending phrase would be deleted from all future reprinting/new publications.

After this, I read of a " it'll be dropped from subsequent printings " bit in the current AMAZING SPIDER-MAN...#4?...where the artist snuck in reference to a book (that I had never heard of) that apparently strongly criticizes the Mormon/LDS Church. This is a year?? after an artist on X-MEN GOLD snuck in some reference to verse in the Koran that apparently strongly criticizes Christians and Jews.

About 8 years ago, a CALTAIN AMERICA issue had a parody of the Tea Party political movement, referring to them as " Tea Baggers " to, um up vulgar joking.

There is, as of right now, a controversy I'm...Ummmnm, let's face it, probably tending younger than here, hee hee hee, fan circles that has been called " Comicsgate ", which seems rather depressing to contemplate.

Just to finish this up, I'll remember a Wolverine comic from...20 years back??..in which the comic book-innocent line " a killer called..." or similarar was smugily printed and caused some to bike and hike on their trike and read it as a slur against the Jewish people!

  • I don't have anything to say except that people are stupid. That's not a very original comment, I know.
