WILL OF DOOM #1 (ONE-SHOT), $6.99: Dang. It looks like if I want to keep up with the post-"One World Under Doom" events, I'm going to have to get last week's Captain America #6. Zdarsky's series has been getting good reviews, so I don't mind. I just hope there's one left at the LCS!

IN THE AFTERMATH OF ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, THE FATE OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE FALLS ON CAPTAIN AMERICA'S SHOULDERS IN THE WILL OF DOOM #1 AND CAPTAIN AMERICA #6

This December, THE WILL OF DOOM #1, a one-shot by Chip Zdarsky and CAFU, explores the aftermath of ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, setting the stage for the next era of the Marvel Universe.

The future of Latveria—and Doctor Doom—will be revealed starting in CAPTAIN AMERICA #6, kicking off an all-new arc of Zdarsky and Valerio’s Schiti’s acclaimed comic run and featuring art by Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz.

31037039275?profile=RESIZE_400xNew York, NY— September 12, 2025 — The final days of Doctor Doom’s reign have begun.

ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM #7 hit stands this week, and readers witnessed Marvel’s greatest supervillain’s last-ditch effort to maintain power. But while his desperate actions in the event’s closing issues may not save his rule—they will ensure its impact will be felt forever! In the aftermath of Doom’s fall, Marvel’s heroes brace for what’s next this December in THE WILL OF DOOM #1, a special year-ending one-shot by Eisner-nominated writer Chip Zdarsky and superstar artist CAFU. Then, all eyes turn to Captain America as he leads the charge towards the future of Latveria—and the entire Marvel Universe—in CAPTAIN AMERICA #6, the start of a new chapter of Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti’s run, bringing their recently-launched series to present day with a bang! The arc will also feature art by rising stars Frank Alpizar and Delio Diaz.

Captain America’s mission to restore order in Latveria will be hindered by SALVATION, a new villain with secret ties to the country’s tragic history. As war breaks out, long-hidden machinations of Doctor Doom will be brought to light, uncovering a shocking evolution of Doom’s legacy. Another adversary Captain America finds himself against will be General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, A.K.A. RED HULK! Seeking revenge against Latveria for his imprisonment during ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, Red Hulk’s involvement will be set up in THE WILL OF DOOM #1, among other upcoming major storylines across Marvel Comics.

LONG LIVE DOOM!

In THE WILL OF DOOM #1, as the Fantastic Four deal with the fallout from ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM, they’re faced with big questions and a surprising new global menace! Will the White House have their backs? Will…the RED HULK? The next stage of the Marvel Universe starts here!

CAP RETURNS TO PRESENT DAY FOR AN ALL-NEW ERA!

In CAPTAIN AMERICA #6, the aftermath of ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM has brought Latveria to the brink of civil war. Captain America deploys to protect civilians and investigate rumors of a weapons stockpile, and with warring factions tearing the country apart and a team of allies pursuing their own agendas, can Captain America hope to bring peace to Latveria? And is that even what his handlers want?

“A Latveria with Doom in charge is incredibly dangerous. A Latveria without Doom in charge is even worse,” Zdarsky explained. “Thunderbolt Ross and Latveria’s new leader, Salvation, have their eyes on Latveria's deadliest secrets, and whoever gets their hands on them will be a threat that will undo the world.”

“Between THE WILL OF DOOM and CAPTAIN AMERICA, we’re charting a new course for the Marvel Universe with one simple statement: Doom always has a plan,” he teased.

Glimpse this exciting new era with the reveal of Jonas Scharf’s THE WILL OF DOOM #1 cover, Josemaria Casanovas’ CAPTAIN AMERICA #6 variant cover spotlighting SALVATION, and Zdarsky’s CAPTAIN AMERICA #6 variant cover teasing the future of DOOM. PORTLAND, Ore. 09/23/2025 — Fan-favorite Ghost Machine titles—Hornsby & Halo by Peter J. Tomasi and Peter Snejbjerg and The Rocketfellers by Tomasi and Francis Manapul—will jingle-jangle all the way to stores with a pair of connecting covers by Snejbjerg and Manapul this December.

There’s no silent night or storybook Christmas for The Rocketfeller family this year. Still reeling from their costly encounter with the deadly Raina Rocketfeller, the family must pick up the pieces and start anew.

Meanwhile, in Hornsby & Halo #13, t'was the Night Before Christmas in Warwick…and Rose and Zach may not be fighting a mouse, but they are busy battling a lotta “stirring creatures” who are pouring down the chimney without any care!

“Once the idea of a connecting cover for both Rocketfellers and Hornsby and Halo came up, Francis just whipped up a rough for this amazing piece in like, five seconds," said Snejbjerg. "He really is that good, a fantastic artist, and collaborating with him reminds me of what Ghost Machine is all about—creators coming together to do what they do best, create great art and characters that live on the page!”

Manapul added: "We've always said at Ghost Machine that when something is fun, we should pursue it. Having the pleasure of coloring Peter Snejbjerg's work, also allows me to feel like I'm walking in his shoes and you can't help but learn a thing or two from the experience. This connecting cover is a testament to our commitment with open communication and natural collaborations, and plainly put; creating with joy."

SKINBREAKER #4, $4.99: I was thinking about this title the other day, wondering yet again why Kirkman chose to set this in a place without any connection to, you know, us. Earth. Human beings. They're hoping for a multimedia franchise that'll provide retirement money."

NO. 5: DARK HORSE COMICS

H.P. LOVECRAFT'S THE SHADOW OUT OF TIME TP, $21.99: Here's a PREVIEW.

DO NOT BE DRIVEN MAD BY “THE SHADOW OUT OF TIME”

In the latest of Gou Tanabe’s manga adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories, one professor’s mental sabbatical becomes a literal descent into the occult!

13671965483?profile=RESIZE_400xMILWAUKIE, Ore., (July 22, 2025)— Dark Horse Manga continues the English translations of masterful manga artist Gou Tanabe! Winner of the 2025 Bram Stoker Award from the Horror Writers of America, Tanabe’s adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft have also been nominated for the Eisner, Harvey, and American Manga Awards. His latest work to appear from Dark Horse, H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow out of Time, is adapted into English by Zack Davisson, translator of the two-time Eisner Award-winning Showa: A History of Japan by Shigeru Mizuki, and lettered by the Eisner-nominated Steve Dutro. This next terrifying tale will arrive just in time for Halloween 2025.

In H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow out of Time:

Professor Peaslee of Miskatonic University has been acting very strange—could he be out of his mind? No…his mind is out of him!

Just because one lives in Arkham—just because one teaches there at Miskatonic University—it doesn’t mean one has any interest in the occult—in the abnormal. That was always the view of Nathaniel Wingate Peaslee, a respectable professor of political economy. Until that one Thursday in 1908, when Professor Peaslee suddenly began to see in front of him not his students in their lecture hall, but strange shapes inhabiting a grotesque chamber. He collapsed unconscious, and when he awoke, he was strange…very strange.

Seemingly unable to recall his identity, the mind inside the body of Nathaniel Peaslee was oddly uninterested in the person he had been. The psychologists were baffled as he sought not to recover his old memory, but to obsessively study the world around him, travelling to distant lands, reading occult books, disturbing others with his odd perspectives on time and existence. He alienated and frightened people—his friends, his wife, even most of his children, except for his youngest son, who believed that one day Nathaniel Peaslee would come back.

And then, in 1913, Professor Peaslee did come back, with no memory of his strange sabbatical, but deeply disturbed by the dreams and visions it left him with. His search for the past five years gone missing from his life will lead Peaslee to other cases of lost identity resembling his…and eventually to an ancient city in the Australian desert—from where a long-vanished race still casts their shadow out of time.

Are you out of your mind? Don’t miss H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow out of Time when the 370-page (5.125” x 7.25”) tankobon-sized paperback arrives in bookstores on October 28, 2025 and comic shops on October 29, 2025, for $21.99. Pre-order now from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or your local bookstore or comic shop. Visit Comic Shop Locator or Bookshop.org for more details and stores near you.

BLINK AND YOU'LL MISS IT #4, $4.99: Here's a PREVIEW.

HELLO DARKNESS #17, $5.99: Sadly, I dropped this title in a spasm of frugality. But if you enjoy horror anthologies, this is a pretty good one. The writing isn't the EC style we're condidtioned to expect, which can be surprising, or even off-putting, to longtime readers. But the art is nearly always good. And those Jenny Frison covers will make you lose sleep. Here's a PREVIEW.

  • SKINBREAKER : I was thinking about this title the other day, wondering yet again why Kirkman chose to set this in a place without any connection to, you know, us. Earth. Human beings.

I'm not sure I agree with this reasoning. I can think of plenty of stories that use non-human creatures to represent the human condition (and I'm sure you can, too).

Then I saw an ad for the latest Avatar movie and thought, "Oh. They're hoping for a multimedia franchise that'll provide retirement money."

I have yet to be convinced that a movie will draw readers even to a comic it may be based on, much less a similar concept.

Having said that, Skinbreaker's pretty good. You should try it. I didn't think I'd like it, but I do.

    • I don't expect that a Skinbreaker movie or TV show would draw anyone to the comic book, because history says it wouldn't. I was thinking the reverse, that the end game was a movie and/or TV show franchise. In which case, a human POV would probably be needful for the mundies (or Hollywood would think so). Like Avatar

But if the end game is just the comic book, then it's not odd. And  I probably would enjoy it, because I'm an SF fan (among other things).

We're not really disagreeing, just started from different positions, and meeting in the middle.

    • Ah. I thought you were saying that the Avatar movie might draw people to the Skinbreaker comic book.
