(W) Various (A) Various (CA) Neal Adams, Jack Adler
SPELLBINDING STORIES OF SHOCK AND SUSPENSE FROM DC'S DARKEST CRYPTS!
DC Finest's celebrated horror anthology shambles ahead with an all-new volume filled to bursting with otherworldly adventures and uncanny encounters, all carefully crafted by some of comics' greatest talents! Featuring frighteningly fantastic work from the likes of Len Wein, Bernie Wrightson, Alex Toth, Gerry Conway, Marv Wolfman, Jack Sparling, and Gray Morrow (to name just a few), this eldritch tome reprints a host of timeless tales, including The Symbionts, Dark City of Doom, and Death Has Marble Lips! from the long-lost years of 1970 and 1971. Collects HOUSE OF SECRETS #86-90, HOUSE OF MYSTERY #186-190, THE WITCHING HOUR #8-12, and THE UNEXPECTED #118-123.
I'm pretty sure most of these have been reprinted in the House of Mystery and House of Secrets omnibus series. But I'll be getting it for the few books I've never read, like Witching Hour and Unexpected.

SPIDER-MAN'S HISTORY — ILLUSTRATED BY LEE BERMEJO! Superstar artist Lee Bermejo captures major moments from Spider-Man's life in 25 stunning variant covers — now collected in one beautiful comic book! Bermejo's covers — which helped count down issue by issue to the landmark AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #1000 -- take you from Peter Parker's timeless origin story, in which he learned his painful lesson about power and responsibility, through clashes with classic foes, the devastating loss of Gwen Stacy, the saga of the symbiote costume, his relationship with Mary Jane Watson, the shocking saga of the Superior Spider-Man and more of the events that defined your friendly neighborhood wall-crawler! All presented alongside historical context, insights from the artist, behind-the-scenes artwork, bonus covers and more!
I'll flip through it when I get to the LCS. I like Spidey, I like Bermejo. But I don't know if I need another superficial trip through Peter Parker's life.

INFERNAL HULK VS. FANTASTIC FOUR #1
Written by PHILLIP KENNEDY JOHNSON
Art by CIAN TORMEY
NEW YORK UNDER SEIGE!
Infernal Hulk’s ultimate target is revealed: Reed Richards’ mysterious “Immaculate Engine,” a supernatural machine in the Baxter Building that could destroy Hulk’s army in a single blow! Can the Fantastic Four resist Infernal Hulk’s corruptive power, use the machine and save Earth? Or will they be the next monstrous recruits in Hulk’s INFERNAL AVENGERS?
HULK WAR, an event spinning out of his and Nic Klein’s acclaimed run of Infernal Hulk — where an ancient evil known as the Eldest has seized control of the strongest there is.
Before HULK WAR erupts next year, the saga will escalate in a series of four INFERNAL HULK VS. one-shots, where INFERNAL HULK tears through Marvel’s greatest heroes on his path to conquer the Marvel Universe. Written by Johnson and featuring a lineup of superstar artists, these penultimate chapters of the INFERNAL SAGA begin in September with INFERNAL HULK VS. WOLVERINE #1 and continue through December in INFERNAL HULK VS. FANTASTIC FOUR #1, INFERNAL HULK VS. SPIDER-MAN #1 and INFERNAL HULK VS. AVENGERS #1. Each one-shot delivers a devastating defeat that brings Infernal Hulk one smash closer to remaking the Marvel Universe in his twisted image. Along the way, readers will witness the rise of the INFERNAL AVENGERS, Infernal Hulk’s terrifying team of corrupted heroes, first glimpsed in Comics Giveaway Day’s Amazing Spider-Man #1000/Queen in Black #1 CGD 2026.
“MARCH TO HULK WAR kicks off the final act of our story that Nic Klein and I started with Incredible Hulk #1 in 2023,” Johnson explained. “It's a series of one-shot battles between Infernal Hulk and Earth’s mightiest heroes, as Hulk gathers his terrifying Infernal Avengers for HULK WAR. The one-shots features one of the most epic rivalries in comics, INFERNAL HULK VS WOLVERINE, and an ending that I'm expecting to shock some people.”
Following last month's reveal of INFERNAL HULK VS. WOLVERINE #1, Phillip Kennedy Johnson took the stage at the panel to unveil the complete lineup of INFERNAL HULK VS. one-shots.
I haven't been following Infernal Hulk, so I don't know the point of these one-shots are about. Anybody want to recommend them, and/or Infernal Hulk? How is this different than World War Hulk?

Here are the IDW books I think are coming out this week.
STAR TREK: ZERO POINT #1
Landing in October is STAR TREK: ZERO POINT #1 from Hugo Award-winning writer Charlie Jane Anders (New Mutants, Women of Marvel). While the Enterprise vanishes beyond the galaxy, Captain Raffi Musiker commands a starship tasked with preventing tomorrow’s disasters today — guided by a powerful artificial intelligence wearing the face of a familiar ally that may know too much, and understand too little about hope.
"I've loved Star Trek for as long as I can remember," Charlie Jane Anders said, "literally, some of my earliest memories are of wearing a homemade Starfleet uniform and waiting to get beamed up. I'm putting all my favorite Trek things into this comic: problem solving, ethical dilemmas, identity crises, and above all, chosen family.
"At the same time, I'm determined to write a Trek comic that newbies can read with no homework required: there are no easter eggs, no callbacks to deep lore. Anyone who loves Becky Chambers or Martha Wells ought to be able to pick up this comic and get a fun science fiction story about artificial consciousness and exoplanets. Also, I'm talking to tons of physicists to get the most accurate science I can into this comic. I'm having the time of my life."
"I'm determined to write a Trek comic that newbies can read with no homework required." Hang on! For some of us, the homework is the point!

NO. 5: DARK HORSE
THE BLACK BEETLE OMNIBUS TPB
Dark Horse Books presents The Black Beetle Omnibus, Francesco Francavilla’s (Batman The Black Mirror, White Boat, Afterlife With Archie) love letter to classic crime busters. The Black Beetle Omnibus will collect every thrilling Black Beetle tale written and illustrated by Francavilla for the first time, including the full-length adventures "No Way Out," "Kara Bocek" and the one-shot, "Night Shift." The paperback book also collects never-before-seen bonus content, including concept art, layouts, character studies, vintage-style lobby cards, behind-the-scenes material from Francavilla’s sketchbook, and a brand-new cover by Francavilla.
About The Black Beetle:
After witnessing an explosion that decimates the city’s organized crime community, killing dozens, the Black Beetle — Colt City’s sleuthing sentinel — is on the hunt for answers and justice in the story "No Way Out."
In "Kara Bocek," the masked American hero ventures to the Middle East incognito (as Tom Sawyer) to fight Nazis in pursuit of a mysterious object of terrible power — a weapon of unknown origin, older than the pyramids, which could fuel the Thousand-Year Reich of Hitler’s dreams.
Finally, in "Night Shift," the Black Beetle is on the case when a powerful totem of magic shows up at Colt City Natural History Museum, prompting Hitler to send his fearsome Werewolf Korps to collect the piece.
"I'm super excited to see all the adventures — published so far — of my baby, THE BLACK BEETLE, collected in one book,” said Francavilla.” It's the perfect way to get to know (or rediscover for those who are already familiar with the books) my neo-noir hero and get excited for what comes next in the shadowy streets of Colt City!"
Praise for The Black Beetle:
“The Black Beetle #1 is one of the most exhilarating, stunning superhero comics on the stands. ... This miniseries presents a high-stakes mystery realized through Francavilla’s intensely graphic style, full of innovative layouts and spectacular splash pages.” — The Onion’s A.V. Club
“The Black Beetle has everything readers want from a pulp Saturday afternoon special. The hero is unique and shrouded in mystery, the plot is twisted and aching to grow into more, and the craft of both writing and art are spectacular. If you enjoyed Francailla's work at DC, then you owe it to yourself to get on this. The Black Beetle is a delightful slice of skewed madness from one of today's finest artists.” — Comic Book Resources
“The hard-boiled mystery hits the ground running and doesn’t pause to catch its breath.” — Nerdist
I think I've got all of these stories already as separate books. I admit having all of them in one place would be convenient, but not enough to fork over the dough when I already have them! That shouldn't stop you, though, if you're a fan of Francavilla, enjoy pulp adventures, or if you liked Lobster Johnson.
Here's a PREVIEW.

ARCHIE VS THE TERMINATOR #1
(W) Rory McConvilla (A) Steven Butler, Lily Butler (CA) Francesco Francavilla
The crossover no one saw coming is here! When a teenage John Connor enrolls at Riverdale High, Archie and the gang soon find themselves in the crosshairs of a Terminator! Written by Rory (Terminator, Red Sonja, Spawn) McConville and drawn by Archie artists Steven Butler and Lily Butler, this 4-issue miniSeries cross-over event features covers by Francesco Francavilla Robert Hack, Bjorn Barends, and Bill Galvan!
The upside of these bizarre crossovers is that the writers can do anything they want to characters that are otherwise immortal and unchanging. The downside is that writers can do anything they want to characters that are otherwise immortal and unchanging, and they can't wait to do so. I mean, how many times can I see Jughead get killed before I'm emotionally scarred? If nothing else, the shock value has been gone since Afterlife with Archie.
I'll probably read the first issue, but I need to see some interior art before I commit to the whole series.

ESCAPE FROM SKULL ISLAND TP
Writer: Simon Furman
Artist: Christopher Jones
SC, 112 pages, FC, $17.99
ISBN: 9781787743922
Another instalment in the iconic Kong franchise, set in the legendary Monsterverse – the official continuation of the hit Netflix anime Kong: Skull Island.
The second arc of the comic continuation sees Kong clash with even more frightening and fierce monsters – brought to life by Simon Furman (Transformers) and Christopher Jones (Young Justice, Teen Titans).
Escape From Skull Island is the second arc of the official comic continuation of the hit Netflix animated series Skull Island. Collecting issues 1–4 of the action-packed and following from the epic events and battles that took place in Return to Skull Island.
Previously, a rag-tag group was pulled on to the shores of Skull Island following a deadly attack at the tendrils of the Kraken. While some were able to escape, with the help of their protector Kong, they made the brave – yet foolish – decision to return and save their newfound friends. Now their ship has been stolen, they’re trapped on the island where every corner reveals a new blood-curdling creature.
The towering Kong’s efforts to protect the humans from the island’s terrifying inhabitants saw him clash with Yuugoth, whose poison corrupts all that lives on Skull Island. Now the humans must fend of hordes of frenzied monsters, in the hopes that Kong can defeat these new terrifying threats.
Writer Simon Furman brings his expertise in creating epic, character-driven stories to Escape From Skull Island, offering a high-stakes narrative filled with twists, betrayals, and heart-pounding action. Furman’s signature style of deep world-building and complex character arcs ensures that each issue is more than just a battle for survival—it’s a clash of ideologies, alliances, and kaiju.
Illustrated by Christopher Jones, the comic bursts with dynamic action, vivid landscapes, and intricate creature designs, capturing the island’s menacing beauty. This is a must-read for fans of Kong: Skull Island, the MonsterVerse, and anyone who loves adrenaline-fueled adventure set against a backdrop of giant monsters and deadly intrigue.

WORST MAN TP
W/A: BRANDT&STEIN
FC, 240pp, $24.99
Titan Comics is proud to announce WORST MAN, the debut graphic novel from Eisner and GLAAD awards-nominated creative duo Brandt&Stein. Blending romantic comedy with tropical mystery, the 240-page original graphic novel offers a wildly entertaining ride through family dysfunction, island intrigue, and the messy, unexpected ways love gets in the way of even the best-laid plans.
“WORST MAN is a love letter. To comedy, to farce, to crime stories, and above all else, to love. There is nothing so human and beautiful as the connections that bind us, and the ties we make; we wanted to celebrate humanity in all its flawed, messy beauty,” said the creators, Brand&Stein. “We wanted to laugh through our fears and doubts around intimacy and connection. And more than anything, we wanted to have fun, to make something fun.”
With expressive, character-driven artwork and comedic pacing, WORST MAN captures everything readers love about “just one more chapter” storytelling. Brandt&Stein deliver a gleefully romantic, delightfully chaotic, and deeply satisfying graphic novel brimming with heart, heat, and high stakes.
“The best way to describe WORST MAN is addictive. A masterclass in pacing and how to juggle a rich ensemble cast. Brandt&Stein have long been the secret ingredient to creating incredible books with other writers, but here they take centre stage,” said Phoebe Hedges, the editor behind WORST MAN. “Belly laughs, toe-curling moments of family drama, plus heart-meltingly sweet — and sometimes steamy — romance await within its pages.”
A professional "Worst Man," Radcliffe Raleigh is hired by the Mother of the Bride and merciless tech mogul Valentina McElligott, to stop the wedding of her youngest daughter. With the price of failure being his life and less than 32 hours till “I do”, Rad’s ready to pull out every trick in his arsenal to stop the wedding and save his skin -- until he meets Best Man and beefcake, Chris Kafka.
Determined to keep the Best Man close for … uh… purely professional reasons, Rad quickly realizes he may be on the wrong side of the aisle and the only "mistake" needing to be rectified is of his own making.
But with sick guests, a ruined dress, and the smell of a conspiracy wafting from the vol-au-vents, is it too late for Radcliffe to get the ceremony back on track?
White Lotus meets Glass Onion in a luxurious, sun-soaked graphic novel where sabotage, seduction, and scandal crash a wedding before anyone can say I do.

So, Nice House by the Sea is concluding. Looking forward to it. I don't know why both that series and its predecessor (Nice Hose in the Lake) went through large periods without new issues. Artist needing to catch up, I assume.
The Captain Britain Anniversary sounds interesting. I wonder if we will learn whether Brian and Betsy are still respectively Captain Avalon and Captain Britain.
I have not been following Infernal Hulk, but I am aware that it went into hell vs heaven plots. Not something that appeals to me. I am surprised that it does not seem to be guest-starring Ghost Rider or Akihiro (Wolverine Jr.), who is currently known as Hellverine, all the more so because Ben Percy strongly hinted that it would happen in the Hellverine book.
Can't say I care about Venom or Eddie Brock either. Nor that I am surprised that they are back together.
DNX #1 was a fine read - FAR better than Midnight Fantastic Four #1, which is even worse than I expected. DNX has been making good use of the Fantastic Four and the X-Men are not looking too bad there either.
Nice to see Two Morrows releasing new books. I was worried for a while. They seem to have been hit hard by Diamond becoming insolvent.
I'm pretty sure most of these have been reprinted in the House of Mystery and House of Secrets omnibus series.
You are correct. That makes ten we have, eleven we don't (or, if you don't own the omnis, 21 "new").
Can't wait for the collections!
Neither can I... and I'm not.

Agreed.
