CC: When Dark Horse reprinted the obscure Brain Boy comics from the 1950s a while back, I thought, "Could this mean they're going to do a new Brain Boy series?" Then I thought, "Naw. That would be ridiculous." So much for my powers of prognostication.

• From all-stars Brian Wood (Northlanders), Becky Cloonan (Batman), Vasilis Lolos (Pixu), and Declan Shalvey (Dark Avengers)!
• The most acclaimed Conan comics in years!
CC: When did "TPB" become "TP"? The former still says "trade paperback" to me, while the latter says "toilet paper." Boo. Anyway, I stopped buying DH's Conan a while back, but only because of economics. I regret that, and eventually I expect to get them all in trade. Dark Horse has really never done a bad Conan series.

100 BULLETS BROTHER LONO #5 (of 5)
Art by EDUARDO RISSO
Cover by DAVE JOHNSON
32 pg, FC, 5 of 8, $2.99 US • MATURE READERS
Word is out that Lono has gone soft. And when his animal instincts aren’t sharp enough to alert him to a traitor in his midst, his kinder nature will be deadly…but maybe not for him!
CC: My least favorite part of 100 Bullets was Lono, a thoroughly despicable human being that I was hoping would catch a bullet. Or six. And a chainsaw.
Apparently, he was quite popular in other quarters. *Shrug* There ought to be comics out there that aren't for me, and this is one of them.

Batman and Robin head to 1960s London to take on The Mad Hatter! When the Caped Crusader hears that hats are being stolen from England’s famous Beefeaters, he knows it can only be the work of Jervis Tetch. But something’s also amiss at Big Ben. Could the Clock King be up to his old tricks?
CC: Honestly, I've been disappointed in this. The only thing that says "1966" is the art. Otherwise it's just another Batman book.

The battle between Batwoman and Batman begins here—it’s all been leading to this!
CC: I trade-wait Batwoman, but from this brief description, I'm looking forward to this story arc a lot.
You see, I thought it was really out of character for Batman to OK Batwoman in her first issue without knowing her ID or anything about her. He usually gets all "MY CITY!" and "GET OUT!" and "I know who you are!" with new heroes, but he quickly gave BW a pass, without meeting his previously established criteria for masks in his city, and despite that she CLEARLY had some serious anger issues. There was no in-story reason for Batman to do that, so we, as readers, were forced out of the story to sigh and think, "Well, she's getting her own series, so I guess Batman, the character we all actually care about, has to be a putz about this."
Which left me an unhappy fan. So perhaps this story will make me happy again. If it doesn't, I may be done with Batwoman.

In this first DC Comics—The New 52 WONDER WOMAN issue, the gods walk among us! Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons, has kept a secret from her daughter all her life – and when Wonder Woman learns who her father is, her life will shatter like brittle clay. Beginning a stunning new direction for Wonder Woman!
(W) Bill Willingham (A) Mark Buckingham, Steve Leialoha (CA) Mark Buckingham
This interlude issue takes place in Bigby Wolf's favorite hunting forest, which is the Platonic ideal of the deep dark woods. In fact, it's so perfect in every detail, it can't possibly exist in real life. Rather, what we should have said is, it can't possibly exist in this life. But it would fit nicely as a heaven for wolves in the afterlife. And so it is.
$2.99
CC: I not only trade-wait Fables, I Deluxe-Volume-Hardback tradewait! So I'm waaaay behind. But consider the fact that I buy this series in high-end collections a recommendation.
FOREVER EVIL DIRECTOR’S CUT #1

32 pg, FC, 1 of 6 $2.99 US • RATED T
Retailers: This issue will ship with two covers. Please see the order form for more information.
The Rogues call no man boss, but a new evil threat might not leave them much choice! Will they fall in line, or refuse and risk certain death? The answer will tear the Rogues apart!
CC: The inevitable spinoffs from "events" are generally a waste of money, as they are often irrelevant or just boring. This one, however, has my attention, as it promises surprises and clever characterization.
GREEN LANTERN HC VOL 03 THE END (N52)
Art by DOUG MAHNKE, DAN JURGENS, PHIL JIMENEZ, SZYMON KUDRANSKI,
ARDIAN SYAF, CHRISTIAN ALAMY, KEITH CHAMPAGNE, MARK IRWIN, TOM NGUYEN and MARC DEERING
Cover by DOUG MAHNKE and MARK IRWIN
264 pg, FC, $24.99 US
The universe is in shambles and the Guardians are the cause. Their mysterious Third Army has risen across the cosmos like a plague, destroying everything in its path, and Hal Jordan and Sinestro are nowhere to be found. It is up to wrongfully accused Simon Baz to clear his name and become the hero that the Corps needs to get to the bottom of Hal and Sinestro’s disappearance and the Rise of the Third Army in these stories from GREEN LANTERN #0 and 13-20!
CC: DC is double-dipping on these issues by also releasing them as part of the Green Lantern: Rise of the Third Army HC. Is it a good thing or a bad thing that DC releases "events" as separate books, while also continuing each series independently? The collector in me says yes, while the consumer in me is outraged.

GREEN LANTERN NEW GUARDIANS #24
Art by BRAD WALKER and ANDREW HENNESSY
Cover by RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE
1:25 B&W Variant cover by RAFAEL ALBUQUERQUE
32 pg, FC, $2.99 US • RATED T
You’ve already seen sneak peeks at chapters one and two of “Lights Out” – this October’s epic crossover event that will change the Green Lantern universe forever.
Written by Justin Jordan and illustrated by Brad Walker and Andrew Hennessy, GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #24 serves as chapter three of “Lights Out.” This issue finds the Lanterns unsure of what to do after being hit hard by Relic. Meanwhile, Kyle Rayner – their most powerful ally – is being pulled away by supremely powerful space entities that have other plans for him. Will Kyle remain loyal to the Lanterns or will his allegiances fall elsewhere? Plus, don’t miss the New Guardians stepping up to the plate and showing exactly what they’re capable of!
CC: It's a little tedious that all the Green Lantern series seem to lurch from event to event, but I have to say that without these cross-Lantern events, there would be no reason for Green Lantern Corps, Green Lantern: New Guardians or Red Lanterns to exist. (They're just not very good.) That being said, I'm not at all impressed with the Big Bad here, Relic, but it's clear I'm supposed to be. Sorry, DC. He's got Galactus' origin and a laughable outfit. That just doesn't do it.
GREEN LANTERN TP VOL 02 REVENGE OF BLACK HAND (N52)
(W) Geoff Johns (A) Doug Mahnke & Various (CA) Doug Mahnke, Mark Irwin
Price: $16.99
In this trade paperback collecting GREEN LANTERN #7-12 and ANNUAL #1, Hal Jordan and Sinestro find themselves investigating a crime that leads them to the homeworld of the Indigo Tribe. As their situation grows more and more dire, these unlikely allies uncover a secret that will change the Corps forever!
HE MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE #7
Art by RAFAEL KAYANAN
Cover by YILDIRAY CINAR

Join the new creative team of Dan Abnett and Drew Johnson as they take He-Man and the Masters of the Universe into their next great chapter!
CC: This is better than it ought to be, with some high-caliber talent involved at almost every level. But really, He-Man? I just can't get past the name. I just can't.
JOKER DEATH OF THE FAMILY HC (N52)
Written by SCOTT SNYDER, ANN NOCENTI, GAIL SIMONE, ADAM GLASS, PETER J. TOMASI, KYLE HIGGINS, JOHN LAYMAN, SCOTT LOBDELL and FABIAN NICIEZA
Art by GREG CAPULLO, RAFA SANDOVAL, JORDI TARRAGONA, ED BENES, DANIEL SAMPERE, FERNANDO DAGNINO, PATRICK GLEASON, TOMAS GIORELLO, EDDY BARROWS, JASON FABOK, BRETT BOOTH and others
Cover by GREG CAPULLO
On sale OCTOBER 16 • 456 pg, FC, $29.99 US
After having his face sliced off one year ago, The Joker makes his horrifying return in this new epic that stars Batman’s network of crimefighting allies! While The Joker threatens the existence of Gotham City, these heroes—and villains—must find a way to survive in stories from BATMAN #17, CATWOMAN #13-14, BATGIRL #14-16, BATMAN AND ROBIN #15-17, NIGHTWING #15-16, DETECTIVE COMICS #16-17, RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #15-16 and TEEN TITANS #15, plus pages from BATMAN #13, BATGIRL #13, NIGHTWING #14, RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #13-14, SUICIDE SQUAD #14-15 and TEEN TITANS #14 and 16.
CC: Scott Snyder has done such a good job with Batman and American Vampire that I almost believed the hype that this Joker appearance would be super-duper-special and change the Bat-family forever. No such luck. Sure, there were a couple of creepy moments, but both the climax and the "change" were real let-downs.

IDW PUBLICATIONS
100 PENNY PRESS THUNDER AGENTS CLASSIC
(W) Larry Ivie, Len Brown (A) Wally Wood, Reed Crandall (CA) Wally Wood
The origins of the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents' remarkable powers are revealed in three short yet action-packed stories for only one dollar! This bargain-priced collection of stories is a must-read for comic fans that want to know more about the beginnings of the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. universe!
$1.00
CC: I wish I could convey to today's youngsters the excitement and sense of anticipation we old farts felt when the first issue of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents debuted in the 1965. None of the later iterations of the series has re-captured that feeling, or lived up to that early promise. But that cover is one for the ages, isn't it? God bless Wally Wood.
GI JOE A REAL AMERICAN HERO #195
(W) Larry Hama (A/CA) SL Galant
THE COUNTDOWN TO #200 STARTS HERE! The situation in Sierra Gordo continues to escalate as G.I. JOE touches down and prepares for action. But with former G.I. JOE member, GRUNT, in the hands of a rebel faction, can G.I. JOE beat the clock and pull of the rescue before it's too late? You're in for a real nail-biter in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #195!
$3.99
CC: Wow, this book is closing in on 200 issues? I think I stopped buying it around issue #10 or so, around (mumble, mumble) years ago. It's not my thing, but I'm glad for those who like it that it's lasted this long.
STAR TREK KHAN #1
(W) Mike Johnson (A) Claudia Balboni (CA) Paul Shipper
"Shall we begin?" Don't miss this all-new mini-series event overseen by Star Trek Into Darkness writer/producer Roberto Orci! Witness the shocking origin of Khan Noonien Singh from his earliest years through his rise to power during the epic Eugenics Wars! Behold the events that led to his escape from Earth aboard the Botany Bay! Learn the truth behind his re-awakening by Admiral Marcus and Section 31! It's the origin of Star Trek's greatest villain, only from IDW!
$3.99
CC: I half-expected the Big Bad in Star Trek: Into Darkness to be Khan, but was kinda disappointed when he was. Not only did Cumberbatch not really give me a sense of menace, but (SPOILER!) the second half of the movie was essentially a re-run of Wrath of Khan with the Spock and Kirk roles reversed. Maybe that spoke to some fanboys, but to this 45-year Trek fan it just seemed very, very, very, very, very Been There Done That. Ergo, not interested in this miniseries.
(W) Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird (A) Kevin Eastman & Various (CA) Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issues #8-11 plus the Michelangelo, Donatello, and the Leonardo Micro-Series are collected in Volume Two of The Works!

But, ugh, super-powers. Scratch that. I would love to see some heroic '30s aviation pioneer types, but I've got enough superheroes, thank you.
I mean, do you have any idea how amazing it would have been if Amelia Earhart had succeeded at flying around the world before radar, oxygen masks, instrument flying and all the rest? Do you have any idea how amazing it was that she did the things she did before that? Not to mention fliers like Lindbergh and the WWI aces. These guys did incredible things by the seat of their pants.
So if you're going to ape the '30s, do it without super-powers. That cheapens what those people really did.
(W) Stefan Petrucha, John Rozum (A) Charlie Adlard & Various (CA) Sam Shearon
THE TRUTH IS... in here! Re-join up with Mulder and Scully as they unravel all-new mysteries only seen in comic books! This second collection includes stories like "Feelings of Unreality," "One Player Only, " "Home of the Brave," "Night Lights," and more.
$29.99
CC: I lost interest in X-Files because I identified with Scully -- the rational, needs-an-explanation one. Because with every episode, the enormous weight of evidence that the supernatural existed in her world increasingly made her skepticism look foolish and stubborn. I haven't read or seen any X-Files since, I dunno, the third season. Pass.

Ghosted #3
'Ghosted' #3 pulls a hat trick with third straight sell-out, second printing arrives Oct. 16
Hit new ongoing supernatural heist comic series goes back to press
Williamson and Sudzuka have clearly struck gold with their supernatural heist comic, in which a team of thieves are tasked with stealing a ghost from a haunted mansion. Since debuting from Image Comics imprint Skybound in July, GHOSTED has seen massive sell-outs and rave reviews:
"This is by far Sudzuka’s best artwork to date. He’s the kind of guy you dream about drawing your comic because he gets every last panel right."
- Joshua Yehl, IGN
"Ghosted is quickly becoming one of my favorite series. It's a fantastic concept that has really been delivering the past few months. Writer Joshua Williamson has a great book here, and with the combine creative talents of Goran and Miroslav, this is a book that everyone should be reading. It's different, in the best way possible. Overall, I highly recommend this book and this series."
- Mat Elfring, ComicVine
"Williamson and Sudzuka’s Ghosted succeeds by taking a couple of very familiar (and pretty in vogue) genres and mixing them up. There’s a little bit of horror, a little bit of Hoax Hunters paranormal procedural structure going on, and a whole lot of heist movie flair to tie it all together. With a balanced cast of characters and a pacing that never stays in one place for too long, Ghosted freshens up a bunch of things that we’ve seen in plenty of comics before."
Vince Otrowski, Multiversity
The second printing of GHOSTED #3 can be pre-ordered now (Diamond Code AUG138198) and will be in stores on 10/16. GHOSTED #4 arrives in stores on 10/9.

CC: Now that I'm trade-waiting Marvels, I see stuff like this like I'm looking into the future. And apparently in the future there's going to be a consummation of the things that Hickman is currently setting up with the Too-Powerful Whatchacallits on Mars, the Why-Don't-You-Stop-Them Growth-Thingies in Canada and elsewhere, and the inexplicable presence (from both story and storytelling perspectives) of Captain Universe on any team, especially one that already has Hulk, Thor and Hyperion. The problem is, as you can probably infer from that last sentence, is that I don't enjoy anything Hickman is doing in Avengers. (But I DO like what he's doing in New Avengers.) Don't get me wrong: Hickman's a good storyteller. It's just that I don't particularly like the elements he's put into play.

CC: Hey, where did DeConnick go? Well, who cares. What I like about this title is that it doesn't have to be in continuity, although it often is. CC: I'm curious about the Angela aspect in a book I'm trade-waiting. Does anyone know what her presence here means? Is it just Neil Gaiman asserting ownership? And how can she do anything important, since the minute the contract runs out, she ceases to exist in the Marvel Universe? If anyone has answers to these questions, I'm all ears.
Fraction and Aja continue the surprise comic hit of the century!

CC: I really enjoyed the first two trades. I really, really liked it that my favorite supporting character, the teen Hawkeye, acted realistically in putting some distance between herself and the train wreck that is Clint Barton. So I'm disappointed a little to see her in the previews of current issues. Oh, well. Is the book still good, current-comic-book-reading people?

THE SEQUEL TO FRANK AND THE CONGRESS OF THE ANIMALS FEATURES EVEN MORE STUNNING VISUALS
For the past 20 years or so, Jim Woodring's beloved trilobular chuckbuster Frank has enjoyed one mindbending catastrophe after another in the treacherous embrace of The Unifactor, the land into which he was born and from which escape seemed neither desirable nor likely. And then, abruptly, in 2011's acclaimed Congress of the Animals (the second Woodring orginal graphic novel, following Weathercraft) Frank did leave the Unifactor for uncharted lands beyond-where, after a string of trials, he acquired a soulmate named Fran.
This development raised far more questions than it answered. Would Frank become placid and domesticated? Would he be jilted? Would he turn out to be a dreadful cad? Would he become a downtrodden and exhausted paterfamilias staring vacantly into the dimming fire of life as obnoxious grandchildren pulled his peglike ears and stole his porridge?
The answers to these fruitless speculations and many more are delivered in a devastatingly unpredictable fashion in Fran, which is in effect part two of Congress of the Animals. Fans of Frank, connoisseurs of bizarre romance, and spelunkers in the radiant depths of graphic metaphysical psychodrama will want to add this singular cartoon adventure story to their lifetime reading list.

Maybe they're good. But the fact that they're being published by Jim Balent means they're probably not. Do I need to say what Jim Balent's claim to fame is?

CC: Ever since I started doing these guides, I've had to go find covers and descriptions for the "GFT" books, which previously I had been unaware existed. (Heck, I had to look up what "GFT" was: It's "Grimm's Fairy Tales.") So I realize they're kinda low-print-run, obscure kinda books. However, now that they're right in my face every month, I'm kinda curious. As Fables and many other books show, this is fertile ground. Has anyone seen them? Are they any good? Many of the covers are very nice.

LOVE AND ROCKETS NEW STORIES TP VOL 06
LUBA'S GENERATIONAL SAGA DEEPENS, PLUS A NEW STORY FEATURING JAIME'S "TONTA"
Love and Rockets enters its fourth decade with the latest installment of this acclaimed graphic novel-format iteration, featuring both old friends and new faces, and some genuine surprises...
The cover shows Gilbert's new star Killer in a pose and milieu that will bring back memories for long-time fans - imitating the hammer-wielding Luba in her adopted Palomar. That's because Killer has discovered that her great-grandmother Maria (Luba's mother) starred in a late 1950s crime movie, and begins to delve into the details of her family's twisted history. Complicating things is the fact that Luba's half-sister Fritz played Maria in an amped-up biopic version of her life, creating a postmodern alternate version of the classic "Poison River" which originally told Maria's story (in a tie-in release, see page 52 for the graphic novel version of this movie, Maria M. Part One)! In the other half of the book, Jaime continues to explore his intriguing new character Tonta: In "Fuck Summer," Tonta is talked into joining the summer swim team but can't figure out why the brand new swim coach knows her - so, with help from friends, she sets out to find the answer. Meanwhile, something far more sinister is brewing behind the scenes...

CC: I have a terrible confession to make: The Hernandez brothers bore me. Especially whichever Hernandez it is who drew the cover above; he draws comical-looking people, and comical-looking girls with comically large breasts, none of which serves the story. (Which leaves me with the impression that he's just a poor artist, and that's all he can draw. That may not be true, but that's the impression I get from what I perceive to be his inability to adapt his style to the story he's telling.) I do like the artwork of the whichever Hernandez it is who draws like Dan DeCarlo Sr., because I like that kind of art. But those stories, too, seem absolutely pointless. Which leaves me wanting to read an actual story drawn by DeCarlo, because it would have had an actual writer behind it, who would have tried very hard to amuse me.
I know, I know, the Hernandez ouevre is supposed to be slice-of-life by way of Gabriel Garcia Marquez's magical-realism style. Hey, I'm not stupid, I know what they're trying to do. I just don't enjoy it. I do like G.G. Marquez novels, and I like slice-of-life in a variety of other media and genres. I just don't like the way the Hernandez brothers do those things.
I understand that this admission will upset people. So please send all hate mail, letter bombs and anthrax to: General Delivery, U.S. Congress, Washington D.C.

NANCY DREW & CLUE CREW GN VOL 03 DRAGON MYSTERY
NANCY DREW & CLUE CREW HC VOL 03 DRAGON MYSTERY
A dragon comes to River Heights, and the Clue Crew is on the case! Pre-teen detective Nancy Drew and her best friends Bess and George have seen a lot while solving mysteries in River Heights. But none of them have ever met a dragon before! When the exotic pet mysteriously appears on their teacher's desk, the Clue Crew have to discover where it came from, how to get it back home, and most importantly, how to take care of it in the meantime. Available in softcover and hardcover editions.
$7.99
I hated Nancy Drew growing up, probably because one of my sisters loved her. But also because I read a few stories, and they were even more misogynistic and ridiculous than DC's Silver Age Supergirl stories -- and that's coming from a 8-year-old boy in the 1960s! Had I been a girl, I'd have been insulted by them, and to some degree, I was insulted for girls, who were being trained to be doormats by stories like those. One of my sisters, thankfully, was also insulted by Nancy Drew stories. The other one -- the one who was very religious, eventually married a man who thought women should be subservient to a man (no matter how stupid), and came to regret all of those decisions -- loved Nancy Drew as a girl. I doubt she does now.
But these current books by Papercutz are actually good. Nancy isn't either an ultra-feminist or a '50s wallflower. She's a very current and believable girl, albeit an amazingly smart and capable one. She reminds me a lot of Buffy, from the TV show. I doubt that's an accident, especially since she has her own Scooby gang.
Take that as a recommendation.
A ten-year-old wizard, Negi Springfield is also a teacher with a wide variety of strange and unusual students. With every new adventure, they learn more about each other and themselves. Collects volumes 19-21 in a single omnibus.

Now he must lead the ninjas in a quest around the world to battle these maniacal menaces, and hope that their first mission together isn't their last! Available in softcover and hardcover editions.

CC: This is an entire series -- a successful series -- based on ninjas made out of Legos.

PACHYDERME GN
This cinematic tale opens surrealistically: with a traffic jam caused by a wounded elephant. Our heroine, Carice, abandons her car and walks trancelike through a wood to visit her husband in the hospital. Along the way she meets a few odd characters, including a blind pig keeper and an alien-looking baby. The surreal encounters do not stop there. The hospital is eerie and foreboding. When Carice's whistling wakes up an apparently dead body in the morgue, she soon realizes that the aged cadaver she's talking to is her future self.
Of course, since I know nothing about it, it could be GENUINELY European, in which all of this is par for the course. Anyone know?
I've only recently started getting Image books but I can recommend Ghosted. It's a great read with every character having secrets and secret agendas.
I got Hunger by accident as I have long since dropped all the Ultimate titles but I do like Ultimate Rick Jones and there is the feeling that something important is going to happen.
BTW, Captain, I love your comments! Keep it up!

There are no miracle weapons here. It's over. It has to be over. It's not. There've been stories which have mixed enhanced humans and World War II before. There's never been one like this. See super beings in a whole new light as Gillen presents an epic original series that not only rewrites history, it redefines the genre! Limited to 5000 copies.

CC: I love the Wallace & Gromit cartoons for their ... I dunno, Englishness. I doubt that would translate well to print.
WALT DISNEY DONALD DUCK HC VOL 04 XMAS BEAR MOUNTAIN
(W/A/CA) Carl Barks
Scrooge McDuck is now such a fixture in the Disney universe that few remember Carl Barks had been writing and drawing Donald Duck stories for half a decade before he cooked up the miserly multiplujillionaire - for what he thought would be a one-time Christmas yarn involving Donald, the nephews, Scrooge in a bearskin, and (inevitably) a couple of real bears. "Christmas on Bear Mountain" is one of Barks's funniest holiday stories and a true landmark in comics history, and offers a fascinating look at a roughedged, genuinely nasty character whom Barks would soon soften...
Scrooge aside, there's plenty of fun to be had in this volume. In "Volcano Valley" Donald and the Nephews end up stuck in Volcania, a south-of-the-border country inhabited by sombrero-wearing, siesta-addicted Volcanians. Other long-form adventures include the self-explanatory "Adventure Down Under," as well as one of Barks's most atmospheric thrillers, the West Indies-based "Ghost of the Grotto," which includes a lovely night-time sequence drawn in Barks's trademark silhouettes and a giant-octopus-vs.-hot-chili-peppers throwdown that climaxes in an explosive splash panel.
The book is rounded off with seven of Barks's hilarious 10-pagers, and as with the previous volumes, Walt Disney's Donald Duck: Christmas on Bear Mountain has been scanned from crisp vintage art and meticulously colored to match the original printing's warm, simple hues, and features abundant critical and historical notes penned by some of duckdom's finest experts.
We are also offering a boxed set that combines the new Walt Disney's Donald Duck: Christmas on Bear Mountain with the 2012 releaseWalt Disney's Donald Duck: A Christmas for Shacktown for a great Christmas-themed box set (see following page).
$28.99
CC: If you're not buying the Carl Barks archives, then you and I are not friends and I'll thank you to take me off your Christmas card list.

Peter Bagge's Woman Rebel: The Margaret Sanger Story is a dazzling and accessible biography of the social and political maverick, jam-packed with fact and fun. Bagge presents the life of the birth-control activist, educator, nurse, mother, and protofeminist from her birth in the late 19th-century to her death after the invention of the birth control pill. Balancing humor and respect, Bagge makes Sanger whole and human, showing how her flaws fueled her fiery activism just as much as her compassionate nature did. Sanger's life takes on a whole new vivacity as Bagge creates a fast-paced portrait of a trailblazer whose legacy as the founder of Planned Parenthood is still incredibly relevant, important, and inspiring.

CC: I knew nothing at all about Margaret Sanger until Republicans started haranguing her memory. Now that I know something about her, I'm in awe. I can't wait to read this.
