  • VERY happy to see BPRD: Plague of Frogs volume 3 on the schedule. I just finished the second volume, and am really looking forward to more.

These books are a great bargain -- $35 for a hardcover of essentially 3 trade paperbacks, and you can find them pretty cheap online.

  • Do the BPRD hardcovers start with the very first BPRD? Do they contain the related miniseries, like those starring Abe Sapien?

  • I think there's an Abe Sapien one-shot in the first one. They start pretty much at the beginning and reprint anything relevant that's not Hellboy. The first one is a little scattered in that regard, before the regular series of miniseries started up. The second one starts around the time John Arcudi began writing -- and includes a later miniseries (or series of 1-shots) that chronologically happened a few years earlier in the Frog War.

  • I have virtually all the BPRDs up to the end of the Frog War, and then decided to start trade-waiting -- but given your info I think I'll just wait for the HCs to catch up. They look so much better on the shelf!

  • They do -- and they read great in a big chunk!

That said, I'm not sure if there are plans to continue the HCs in this format after the Frog War. I certainly hope so, though! And I hope they eventually repackage Hellboy in the same format, since the $50 hardcovers are too pricey for me (and they cover 1 less trade each). A new Hellboy hardcover set would also give them a couple years for Hell on Earth material to build up for a new set of BPRD hardcovers...

  • I really like those oversize, deluxe hardbacks -- are those the ones you mean? I like them so much I'm getting them despite owning all the floppies. They were also a reason I decided to trade-wait on the Hellboy universe, and I'm waiting for those to catch up with what I have already read as well. Eventually I'll sell my comic-book collection and rely only on collections, just as a matter of practicality, and this is a baby step in that direction.

  • Yeah, the Hellboy Library -- the're big, and collect two trades of Hellboy material each. I'd like to get 'em, but at $50, I'm holding out for something a little less deluxe, but still durable and shelf-worthy. And $35 for 15-18 issues seems doable, especially with a discount from Amazon or Instocktrades.

I'm also glad to see how successful Dark Horse Presents has been. When I was laid off a few years ago, I really retreated from indie comics, since I only had so much money to go around (I've got some steady freelance work now, so the pressure's off a little bit, at least). DHP lets me keep my toe in the non-super universes with a lot of different flavors, and I really appreciate that.
