A while back, DC announced a new line of reprints, called DC Finest, that packages about 500 pages of comics from various eras into a $40 softcover. From all appearances, it looks to be an attempt to mimic Marvel's successful Epic Collections line, in which complete runs of their books are reprinted in similar paperbacks, but often out of order. So you might get Fantastic Four volume 3 (The Coming of Galactus) before volume 1 (the early stuff), but the volumes have all been mapped out, and gaps get filled in as time goes on.
DC announced a bunch of collections, ranging from the Golden Age (All-Star Comics, Superman) to the 2000s (Wonder Woman), with plenty in between. In October's solicitations, they've finally nailed down the contents for most of the announced books. Here's what's been announced so far.

OK, that's what I thought. My only other thought was that DC published some unrelated comic called Spectre at some point -- a ghost story anthology, something with nothing to do with the superhero -- but if you guys never heard of that either, it looks like it's just an editorial mistake.
I've got four DC Finest volumes on the pile, though I'm really only reading two of them right now: Science Fiction and The Spectre. The SF book, full of short stories, is going slowly, but I'm 200-some pages in. That's dozens of stories already! Whereas with the Spectre, I've only read 4 stories, and am past page 100. (Batman and DC Horror are on deck.)
The Spectre is one of the more interesting DC Finest books, since it spans so many titles and approaches to the character over more than 15 years. I've read the Showcase tryouts, which feel like quaint Silver Age superheroing, written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Murphy Anderson. (I think they handle the first issue of the Spectre's solo series, but I haven't gotten there yet.) I've read one Brave & Bold teamup, with the Flash, which is notable because Carmine Infantino seems to be using a looser style here than he did on his early Flash comics -- this issue arrives just as his run on The Flash is ending. Plus, this and the next couple team-ups are by Bob Haney, who has a different sensibility than Fox.
But the Spectre series itself goes through a number of different writers and artists and approaches, with the last couple issues being several short stories, not long-form adventures.
And then we get to Adventure, with the fondly-remembered Fleisher/Aparo stories. (It looks like the follow-up Adventure stories, written by Fleisher at the time but not drawn by Apara until the 90s, have not been included; they'll haunt a future volume.) Followed by some more Brave & Bold teamups, and three appearances in Ghosts, and then a featured story in All-Star Squadron. That's a lot of different approaches to the Grim Guardian!
