Huge announcements from DC today: 24 new titles are launching in June. Among them are:

Starfire

Midnighter

We Are Robin

Dr. Fate

Earth 2: Society

Mystic U

Dark Universe

Black Canary

Green Lantern: The Lost Army

Constantine: Hellblazer

Cyborg

Justice League of America

and more!

Plus, miniseries for Bat-Mite, Prez, Bizarro, and Section Eight!

Also, Romita will continue to draw Superman, but the new writer will be Gene Luen Yang (American Born Chinese). That seems huge to me.

  • Cool. I'll wait to see descriptions for each series before I make a decision. Though, when I see We are Robin I think of the Farmers Insurance ad- "We are Farmers, da da da da"

  • Newsarama has a rundown of the complete list and who all the creative teams are.

  • Something else that should be noted: There's apparently no Convergence reboot, and the New 52 continuity will remain intact. (If not the New 52 branding, which is finally being dropped.)

  • So Convergence is just a bone that they're throwing to older readers then it's back to being "hip" and "trendy".

    Terrific.

And they'll all be #1 again.

    *sigh*

  • They've always said that about Convergence, though -- they've called it "a love letter" to fans of the old continuities (althought Didio has said it's also "leaving every door open," so who knows what that means.). All the talk about reboots has come from other sources, from what I can tell -- speculation on the part of Newsarama and Bleeding Cool, etc.

And only the new books will be #1. Books like Batman and Superman will continue their numbering. And I'm not sure what's so hip and trendy about Bat-Mite or Section Eight or Prez, but I'll take it!

  • I've said for years that Robin should be Robins, a constantly shifting group of kids aiding Batman like the Baker Street Irregulars did with Sherlock Holmes. Sounds like We Are Robin will be that!

  • I think so, yes!

  • With titles like Bat-Mite, Bizarro, Prez, and Section Eight -- Dogwelder's back, guys! Dogwelder! -- this bunch of titles seems to have a very different character than the original New 52.

  • I'm really excited about this. With the start of the New 52, DC was painting everything with the same brush. It didn't work (for me) for most of the books. But this time it seems like DC is really doing some things different, and I also like how they are doing some pretty crazy sounding books. It didn't work when they tried to play it safe; let's try this "throw it all at the wall and see what sticks"--with more of a variety this time.

And I am really hoping that the new Prez title will create demand to reprint the original four-issue miniseries. If they do it right, they will also include the Sandman issue focusing on the character as well as the Ed Brubaker/Eric Shanower one-shot from Vertigo.

  • here's the actual press release:

    Good Morning!

Wanted to share some great news with you! On the DCComics.com Blog, we’ve just revealed the details on a more diversified, accessible and broader focused lineup of DC Comics titles, scheduled to debut in June. This roster of 49 books combines 24 all-new issue #1’s, with 25 fan-favorite titles, plus some pretty rad new and returning creative talent! National Book Award finalist Gene Luen Yang will make his debut as a DC Comics writer, joining John Romita Jr. on SUPERMAN.  Superstar artist Bryan Hitch will write and draw new stories of the world’s greatest heroes in the pages of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA. The team of Garth Ennis and John McCrea will be back once more with more tales from the HITMAN universe in their 6-issue limited series, SECTION EIGHT.

And if that’s not enough, you’ll get your first look at cover art for DIVERGENCE, DC’S offering for Free Comic Book Day, May 2.

More details, including the official announcement, a gallery of art and full rundown on all 49 titles can be found by clicking here and heading over to the DC Comics blog.
