It’s been ten years since I last bought a new Devil Dinosaur comic (the one from the “Marvel Monsters Group” series of one-shots, see below). That may have even been the last new Devil Dinosaur comic book for all I know. That was a tongue-in-cheek match-up between Devil Dinosaur and the Hulk set up by the Celestials (but Devil Dinosaur pretty much has to be tongue-in-cheek). In order to bring Devil into the present, the creative team felt the need to [SPOLIER] kill off Moon-Boy [END SPOLIER], which I didn’t think was necessary.
There’s something of a disconnect here in that the main character is supposed to be a genius, yet doesn’t have a clear grasp of what a scientific theory is. Still, even though the first issue did not tell a complete story, it was enjoyable enough and I’ll be back next issue.

When I said the "Marvel Monster Group" one-shot may have been the last new Devil Dinosaur comic book, I forgot about his appearance in Nextwave: Agents of H.A.T.E. (which does support my contention that only Kirby can play the character for anything other than laughs).
I just now realized that Moon Girl gets top billing in the title. I changed it in the subject line, but I just don't think that's right. Devil has seniority (either 40 or 70 million, depending how you look at it) as well as pedigee (Kirby).
I'm not sure Moon Girl is a genius. She likes science, but may be a garden-variety nerd. The first issue, as you note, was unclear. She probably is supposed to be, and it's the WRITER who doesn't understand scientific theory. But just the same, I'll wait for confirmation before I make any assumptions.
Incidentally, I write about MG & DD in my latest column, available now on this site. :)
"I'm not sure Moon Girl is a genius."
I dunno. She built a "Kree-Detector" (apparently).
Well, did she? It looked like a cobbled-together toy. She could have just stumbled on the Omni-Wave Projector while pretending.
Again, I think we're supposed to believe she's a genius. I'm operating under the assumption she's a genius. But I'm waiting for issue #2 to corroborate before I'm sold completely.

I think Kirby meant his version to appeal to little kids, like the Harvey titles of the era.
