I'm watching the Doctor Who story "The Tenth Planet", a story notable for the first appearance of the Cybermen and the last appearance of William Hartnell in the lead role. I've never noticed it until now, but in the first episode, a character at an Antarctic be can be seen reading an issue of what the infotext informs me is a copy of the UK edition of Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos. I can make out the title, but not much else of the cover, so I couldn't make oit what issue it was. I hadn't known that there was a UK edition of that book. What's amusing is that although the episode was initially broadcast in December 1966, the story was set in the far future of 1986, so apparently South Polzr Base had twenty year old comics lying around!

You need to be a member of Captain Comics to add comments!
According to the GCD, the only UK versions were two Australian volumes, which didn't use American covers, they just blew up panels for the cover. One series was three issues, the other was 10, which is here. I'm not sure how those got to where they were filming Doctor Who.
But at least it was *possible* for 20-year-old comics to be lying around. I envied Radar on the M*A*S*H episode where he was reading issues of the Avengers that wouldn't be coming out for more than a decade!
We talked about Radar in a thread a few years ago and came to the conclusion that they used that image--upside down and for a brief second--because it had Captain America prominent on the cover.
I remember spotting that Avengers comic when I first saw the episode. A rare moment for Baron Unobservant to spot a detail like that. I remember being rather inordinately pleasaed with myself, catching that.

Might have been a reprint :)
Still if I were to travel in the TARDIS there are a few comic books I'd make it a point to pick up.
