This turned out to be a trickier question than I thought it would be. (Note: I am adopting a fairly broad definition of "companion", here. I am also assuming a certain upcoming episode od The Sarah Jane Adventures goes the way I imagine it wil.) Several companions turned out to have definitely met two Doctors: 1)Polly (First, Second) 2)Ben Jackson (First, Second) 3)Jamie MacCrimmon (Second, Sixth) 4)Adric (Fourth, Fifth) 5)Nyssa (Fourth, Fifth) 6)Melanie* (Sixth, Seventh) 7)Rose Tyler (Ninth, Tenth) 8)Captain Jack Harkness (Ninth, Tenth) 9)Mickey Smith (Ninth, Tenth) 10)Jacqueline Tyler (Ninth, Tenth) One companion has definitely met three Doctors: 1)Peri Brown (Second, Fifth, Sixth) Now, we get to the tricky ones. Susan Foreman has definitely met two Doctors (First, Fifth). She saw the Second and Third Doctors in "The Five Doctors" but did not speak to or interact with them. Vislor Turlough has definitely met two Doctors. (First, Fifth). He saw the Second and Third Doctors in "The Five Doctors" but did not speak to or interact with them. Sgt. Benton has definitely met three Doctors (Second, Third, Fourth). He saw the First Doctor on a viewscreen in "The Three Doctors", but did not speak to or interact with him. Jo Grant has definitely met three Doctors (Second, Third, Eleventh). She saw the First Doctor on a viewscreen in "The Three Doctors", but did not speak to or interact with him. Tegan Jovanka has definitely met three Doctors (First, Fourth, Fifth). She saw the Second and Third Doctors in "The Five Doctors" but did not speak to or interact with them. The Bridagier has definitely met five Doctors (Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Seventh). He saw the First Doctor on a viewscreen in "The Three Doctors", but did not speak to or interact with him. Sarah Jane Smith has definitely met five Doctors (Third, Fourth, Fifth**, Tenth, Eleventh). She saw the First and Second Doctors in "The Five Doctors" but did not speak to or interact with them. So, what did I miss? *Known as "Mel" **Her encounter with the Fifth Doctor in "The Five Doctor" was little more than a handshake, but that's stll counts as meeting in my mind)

  • There might be further instances in Dimensions in Time, which I haven't seen.
  • I've only seen "Dimensions in Time" once so I don't remember if Sarah Jane met Doctor #s 6 and 7 or if the Brigadier met Doctor #6. They were all in it but I don't remember if they interacted.

If we want to count the Big Finish audio plays, the Brigadier has met the eighth Doctor.
  • I think I heard when it came out that it pairs the Brigadier with Doctor 6.
  • Do you know, I have seen "Dimensions in Time", but I think I must've blocked it out of my brain,

That's not blocking out. That's evidence of brain damage.
  • There's one companion that's been with the Doctor through all his lifetimes--and appears in nearly every story! Don't forget the TARDIS.

    True!
