So...now that both Matthew and Mary are too "damaged" for marriage in 1918...I see them as perfect for each other AND the two of them, possibly, taking on the disgraced maid's baby as their own. Now, the question I have is...if Matthew (the Downton heir) and Mary adopt a child, by 1918 British law, could that child become the new heir of Downton?

...As a 100% noobie/virgin to the series...It's in the paper to-day that Shirley MacLaine will be joining the third " series " ! While I assume she can put on a Brit accent , may I assume that she will play a woman of the Henry James/Edith Wharton/Winston's-mum " American gel " generation ?
Ms. MacLaine will play a new character, Martha Levinson, the mother of Lady Grantham (Elizabeth McGovern). Both characters are American.
...Thank you . Liz's character would have full , & 100% , Brit citizenship , tho' , non ?????????
Or , is she a " later " such transplant ?
She married into the Grantham family as an American adult. You may have been able to have dual citizenship then...as opposed to now. A British citizen can keep both, but Americans have to choose. We aren't allowed dual citizenship anymore. :(
