This past weekend I went to Fan Days in Irving, TX (It used to be known as Star Wars Fan Days I think). I spent most of the time helping a friend out at his booth. They have made it a 3 day even now, and I went directly after work. Which made for a long day and made the weekend seem longer.
Since I was working most of the time I didn't get much of a chance to do a whole lot of shopping. I didn't get to got to a single panel, or meet very many people. I did snag a few things though:
One booth had DC Archives and Marvel Masterwork on sale for $20.00 each with a 5 book minimum. I don't buy much of either so it was easy for me to find 5 I wanted (I could have gone 10, but didn't want to spend that much just on those books)
I bought 2 issues of Super Newts. I read the first issue about 2 years ago, and the creator was back, so I picked up the newest issues.
A few LSH issues from the early '80s I was missing
Volumes 3 and 4 of John Sable from the same guy I got the first 2 from.
Plus a handful of underground comix
I also got to meet and talk with Howard Chaykin for 5-10 minutes. I love hearing him talk as he doesn't really have a filter, and he has great stories. He seemed to be in a really good mood. I had him sign my copies of Sword of Sorcery, American Century (he said he offered to do a 44 pager to wrap up the series, but too much time had passed for it come to pass), and the issue of Solo that he did, which he thanked me for buying because it was one of his favorite books to work one.
I also got to meet with Geof Darrow for a few minutes as well.
It was a fun yet tiring event. My hours are longer there than they are at work, and it is busier.
