There aren’t many comics I’ve sold or traded over the years that I haven’t come to regret, but G.I. Joe #1is one of them. I used to play with G.I. Joes when I was little… the real dolls, not the little plastic “action figures”… but by the time the Marvel comic came out I had long since outgrown the entire concept. I gave the series a pass initially, but positive fan press led me to give the first issue a try six months or so after it initially shipped.

Boring. Got rid of it, never regretted doing so.

Last week IDW reprinted a Hundred Penny Press edition, and as my wife says, “Ya can’t go wrong for a buck.” I flipped through and saw some good, solid, 1980s style storytelling with a whole lot of dialogue. How bad could it be?

I stick by my first assessment from 32 years ago: boring.
